Congress Links

September 16, 2009 - by Avelino Maestas

With the introduction of the Baucus bill yesterday, I wanted to wait a bit before getting Congress Links up. Space flight, the Patriot Act, and DoMA were in the news today:

  • Obama backs extending the Patriot Act’s domestic spying provisions (Threat Level).
  • House Republicans want czar vetting info revealed (The Hill).
  • Will Congress extend home-buyers’ tax credit past December 1 deadline (New York Times)?
  • Greenspan worries Congress will hamper Fed (Bloomberg).
  • Panel says $3 billion necessary to continue manned-space flight (Christian Science Monitor).
  • Democrats lost leverage from the start in the health care debate (Washington Independent).
  • Brad Friedman on action in Congress to require hand-marked, hand-counted paper ballots (Brad Blog).
  • House liberals introduce law to repeal Defense of Marraige Act (San Francisco Chronicle).

Pres. Carter is right…the disgusting posters/slogans, the insane ravings of Limbaugh/Beck etal & Joe Wilson’s lack of plain old good taste, self control or rational judgement has to be racially motivated. Those Americans who behave in this manner shouldbe ashamed of themselves. I have nothing but contempt for Joe Wilson & firmly believe that the last 8 years worth of “conservative” lies, arrogance, lack of respect for the Constitution & outrageous behavior toward those with opposing viewpoints (including their own party members) have opened doors to people (& I use the term loosely) like Wilson that may now never be closed. Barack Obama is a brilliant individual with more integrity in his little finger than Wilson has…etc…he is a leader to be proud of and to support. If he fails, we all fail which means America fails.

AS for required insurance for Americans, just like auto insurance, if I can’t afford insurance I don’t drive. If I can’t afford health insurance and to feed my family I …. quit eating or get fined? Not very good choices. Who is going to pay for the debtors prison for all of those who can’t pay the fines?
As for HR Bill 45…. thank you to all who oppose and for those who approve…can you spell U.S.S.A Communism and Socialism are right around the conner.
As for the economy… If we are to blame Wall Street for all of our ills and we have to tighten our belts and lose jobs because of those who haven’t done their jobs well, then when can we expect the cut backs in excesses in our goverenment – as in staff, benefits, and bonuses. Or judging by the state of things are we saying they are doing a fine job?

I don’t know who “conner” is, but he can keep his “U.S.S.A Communism and Socialism.” While he is at it, he can take the Baucus Bill, tie it to the rock identified as “Bi-Partisanship”, and drop it into the deepest part of the ocean. The only thing in this bill that will float is “no pre-existing conditions.”
