How to Email Congress About the Debt Ceiling Bill
August 1, 2011 - by Donny ShawThe debt ceiling compromise we’ve all been asked to support but have not been allowed to see is being rushed to a vote this afternoon in the House. This is your last chance to write your Representative and Senators to let them know how you want them to vote.
To write your lawmakers ::
1) go to S.365, the bill being used as the legislative vehicle for the debt bill,
2) click “support,” “oppose,” or “tracking” in the right-hand sidebar,
3) select which of your elected officials in Congress you want to write to,
4) draft your letter in our custom Message Builder,
5) click “send.”
Your letter will have its own permalink, so you choose to share it publicly on OC and other social networks, or to keep it private.
Note that because of the convoluted legislative process that’s being used to rush this bill to a vote, some of the data available in the message-builder may not be relevant to the debt bill. But since this is all happening so quickly, your members of Congress really just need to know that you are paying attention, and whether you oppose or support the deal. This is the quickest and easiest way to write your member of Congress about this. Take one minute and do it now. You won’t have another chance.
