Bailout Opposition Overwhelms House.Gov

September 30, 2008 - by Donny Shaw

Congress is getting so many emails from constituents opposing the bailout that the House of Representative’s website is on the verge of crashing. They’ve been forced to temporarily put traffic limits in place in order to deal with the unprecedented surge of traffic to the site.

>As a result, some constituents may get a ‘try back at a later time’ response if they use the House website to e-mail their lawmakers about the bill defeated in the House on Monday in a 205-228 vote.
>
>"We were trying to figure out a way that the House.gov website wouldn’t completely crash,” said Jeff Ventura, a spokesman for the Chief Administrative Office (CAO), which oversees the upkeep of the House website and member e-mail services.
>
>The CAO issued a “Dear Colleague” letter Tuesday morning informing offices that it had placed a limit on the number of e-mails sent via the “Write Your Representative” function of the House website. It said the limit would be imposed during peak e-mail traffic hours.
>
>“This measure has become temporarily necessary to ensure that Congressional websites are not completely disabled by the millions of e-mails flowing into the system,” the letter reads.

Yesterday, during and after the vote, I noticed downtime at thomas.gov, c-span.org, house.gov, govtrack.us and, of course, here at opencongress.org. The public outcry against a mass bailout of Wall Street has been truly incredible.

People are hurting in this economy and they don’t want to be neglected as the government risks their tax money bailing out Wall Street. There’s no better place to hear the voices of struggling Americans than at the comment forums on OpenCongress’ unemployment bill pages here, here and here.

The march on Congress is coming! You ba***rds get no respect because you don’t deserve it! You’re all fired! We’ll make do with the laws we already have thank you! You can all go home now and we’ll call you if we need anything else fouled up! Scum bags!!!

AMEN! It is time for change. Congress represents Wall Street and the wealthy. Oh yes, and THEMSELVES. Go home, retire, quit, whatever. Daffy Duck should be voted in…..At least then we would have someone there who listens to the AMERICAN PEOPLE!

All of these LIFERS in the House and Senate need to be replaced. No wonder we have no leadership with forward thinking and belief in change as they have all been there far too long and live in the past with outdated antiquated logic. Time for change and new blood in the Senate. Hear the people and go home.
