Get Out and VOTE!

November 3, 2008 - by Donny Shaw

Election day 2008 is officially here. Today, Tuesday, November 4th, is the day to get out and vote. We’ve heard some reports of malicious voter misinformation campaigns that are trying to tell people that the voting date has been changed. If you hear this, do not believe it. Election day is today, Tuesday, November 4th.

If you need to know where you are registered and where your polling place is, try checking canivote.org and votepoke.org.

In addition to choosing between Senators Barack Obama (D-IL) and John McCain (R-AZ) for the presidency, you’ll be voting for your district’s Representative in the U.S. House and, in many states, for a member of the U.S. Senate. To find out more about your incumbent representative and senator, go to the OpenCongress homepage, scroll down to the bottom and enter your zip code in the “Find Your Members of Congress” box on the left-hand side of the screen. You can learn all kinds of stuff about your senator and representative on their OpenCongress profile page, from their legislative accomplishments and voting records, to what’s being said about them (and their challenger) in the news and blogs.

You’ll also be voting on state assembly races and ballot measures. Use Follow The Money’s “Find My District” tool, located on the left-hand side of their homepage, to get all kinds of information about your state races and ballot measures.

This is a historic election! Race to the polls! Get out and vote! Bring your poll workers some cookies and an acoustic guitar to pass around in the waiting line!

Painers will let you know if you don’t vote, they won’t give you a heart attack.
