Mr. FOSSELLA introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on the Judiciary
To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to include within the definition of `refugee' spouses of persons who have been forced to abort a pregnancy or undergo involuntary sterilization.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. EXPANSION OF THE SCOPE OF THE DEFINITION OF `REFUGEE' TO INCLUDE CERTAIN SPOUSES.
Subparagraph (B) of section 101(a)(42) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (
(1) after `forced to abort a pregnancy or to undergo involuntary sterilization,' the following: `or the legally recognized spouse of such a person,';
(2) after `for other resistance to a coercive population control program,' the following: `or the legally recognized spouse of such a person,'; and
(3) after `subject to persecution for such failure, refusal, or resistance' the following: `, or the legally recognized spouse of such a person,'.
