This is outrageous when some congressman or DEA bureaucrat can over rule your doctor on what medications you should take to improve your health. HGH is being used successfully by a lot of people in there 40s and 50s with good results. To make those people and there doctors criminals because they are using it as an off label use. This just down right madness.

My kid take HGH because their bodies don't make enough. What an idiot this Congressman is to make it harder for them to get a needed drug.
What is going to happen to the children who need GH in order to attain linear growth due to a medical condition that does not allow their bodies to produce growth hormone? This creates terribly burdensome access to this very needed medication.
I find this bill to be a very sad commentary on many of our elected politicians. Their desire to grandstand for the media without understanding or evaluating the true value of GH is sickening. This bill will not stop the multi-million dollar athletes, but it will seriously hinder and delay access to those who need the drug and the overall delivery of this to those who use this for medical conditions. Shame on those Washington politicians who support this bill. Try focusing on the real issues and not your sound bites or video clip with the real criminals who call themselves professional athletes. I truly beleive the US Congress has better things to do with its time.
Just like gun control - it won't stop the criminals from getting guns, just the innocent. This bill will not stop athletes from the abuse of this drug again it will only hurt the innocent. I have a chile that is 4 1/2 that has been diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome. Taking this drug away from him is life-threating, it will kill himn slowly. PWS is metabolic disorder that causes growth defienciency (small staure), low tone, mental retardation, and an insatiable appetite. Without this medicine (it is not a drug!!) He will stop growing up -- he will only grow out, his appetite will increase he will want to eat all the time..he can literally eat himself to death. We MUST stop this bill!!!
My 5 year old is on GH because of a medical diagnosis...thanks to sports "superstars" my daughter is going to have a hard time getting meds-that her dr. prescribes! It is so hard to explain to people what our life is like...start with imagining fighting with your insurance company to get the medictine the dr. prescribed, learning in one session how to inject your child, spending the next 6 weeks holding down a screaming child who wants to run when they see the needle, then finally accepting this is life and not fighting as much but parent still have to give the shot...add to that holding down a full time job (to keep the insurance to pay for the drugs) but managing visits with 6 specialists plus the pediatrician PLUS those wonderful sick visits! No pity please, it is what it is, but it much more difficult for us than most can imagine...I wish you all health...if you ever find yourself in our seat, reach out, other parents are here to share and help in your time of need!
after lots of calls from concerned familes to Senator Schumer and others in congress. Senator Schumer has expressed his desire to collaborate with all parties involved in an effort to redraft his legislation in order to ensure legitimate usage and accessibility of Growth Hormone. thank you Senator Schumer for listening and to all those who took the time to make a difference. Stay tuned
I am so relieved that Senator Schumer has listened to those of us who called/wrote with our concerns about HB4911. I am a 58 year old woman, who is panhypopituitary (no endocrine function) from an automobile accident when I was 18...hit by a drunk drive with no insurance. I was growth hormone deficient for over 30 years following my accident & before HGH was genetically engineered and available for adults who were HGH deficient. Before the discovery of genetically engineered HGH, I had ALL of the symptoms of growth hormone deficiency in adults and wanted to die. My life has been complicated by getting gh approved through my insurance, injecting myself daily, frequent endless labs, & travel with injectables. Please do not make my medical disability more challenging by passing a bill that would make it difficult for those, like myself to get a medication that is medically necessary. Please educate yourselves about the pituitary, endocrine system, and understand how this bill would negatively effect already challenged individuals, both young & old with pituitary disease. As for the athletes, they have the money to obtain whatever they want, thanks to the americans' obsession of sports. Rediculous. Passage of HB4911 would not impact the rich, only those of us who are medically challenged. Janet Pingree

As an adult growth hormone deficient patient, I already must go through yearly testing, paper work, and doctor visits. HB4911 would not only make it more expensive for me to get my medication, it would also take more time and effort. I NEED this medication. Without growth hormone I would be almost not functioning physically or mentally. This bill will only hurt those people who are already getting the growth hornmone leagally. Athletes don't need insurance and legal prescriptions for their supply. They have enough moneyl.
I am 51 and my pituitary is not releasing Human growth hormone so I have to inject it. Before I started treatment I ached all over, I had muscle pain and weakness, could not think clearly, did not sleep well, had dizziness, gained weight, joint pain and more. My doctors said without treatment I will not live a full life and my quality of life will get worse. It took me seeing 20 doctors in 2 years to find the right doctor that could find out what was wrong with me and now I finally get the help and you want to take it away. That is so wrong.
I NEED THIS MEDICINE!!
