I think the stimulus plan which was just passed has a hidden adjenda. Most people who qualify for this payment won't receive more then $300-325 dollars. Those checks won't reach anyone until May. If unemployment insurance was extended these checks would go out immediately. Compare March spending to May spending. With the extention of unemployment cash would be in the hands of people faster then the checks from the supposedly great STIMULUS PACKAGE PASSED.
The original bill S.2544 for Emergency Unemployment Extension that was originally introduced with the stimulus package is a bill that will cover EVERYONE that is in need of it for a longer period of time than HR 4934. Based on the amount of time most of us have been unemployed at this point, 13 additional weeks may not be adequate. This bill also does not include the additional $50, which is desperately needed by ALL.
Anybody have info on this....
I clicked on the link to this bill and upon reading further, I read this....
As soon as the number of unemployed workers nationwide increases by over one million compared to the same month in 2007 (an indication of a recession)
Has this happened yet, or will this bill only make us wait for the magic number for an extension??????
Rep. McDermott (D-WA) has introduced legislation to address this issue, the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Act, HR 4934. As soon as the number of unemployed workers nationwide increases by over one million compared to the same month in 2007 (an indication of a recession), the safety net in HR 4934, would be triggered, making unemployment benefits available to workers for an additional 26 weeks and temporarily increasing the amount of unemployment benefits by $50 per week.
Read the 2nd paragraph... BIG 'IF'........and 'WOULD'
If triggered in the next month or two, this extension would provide roughly $18 billion in additional unemployment compensation to laid-off workers.
I live in CA. My unemployment has been exhausted since mid
March. I am a single Dad with no income 0 balances in the bank WE NEED THIS EXTENSION TO PASS ASAP. The government needs to help their own before helping others.
