To authorize the Secretary of the Interior to enter into a long-term lease with the Government of the United States Virgin Islands to provide land on the island of Saint John, Virgin Islands, for the establishment of a school, and for other purposes.

I fully support this bill as it will finally provide land to build a high school for St John which it never had. It will also remove the existing facility out of the high-traffic area it is is in and also remove it from the center of town right in the middle of the bar/restaurant area. f St John need a modern educational facility. I fully support this bill.
This bill represents a short sighted and counter-productive approach to an issue that must be resolved by the Virgin Island government. There is no need to take land from the national park to build a school. Private land is available. Fortunately, the Governor and Representative Christensen have been wise enough to pursue those alternatives and the newspaper reports that a government official has already met with representatives of an existing private school regarding use of facilities that are already in existence. This legislation is unnecessary, and if passed, would create a terrible precedent that would threaten national parks all over the U.S. The economy of St. John is dependent on the tourist industry which exists because of the amazing national park. The area that is proposed for this large development is right at the beautiful entrance from the center line road right into the heart of the north shore beach area. What a terrible idea.
