I really hope they get on this Bill come Monday, I’ve been without work since the end of August 2007. I work the Construction field and have done so for over 20 years – here in Michigan the Construction industry has really taken a hit and it’s not looking any good in the near future either. These Politicians need to get off thier hands and do something and soon. My company has over 150 people sitting at home and the boss’s hands are tied – there just isn’t any work out there. I have several friends that do the same type of work for other companys and thier all in the same boat – no work. I’ve experienced lots of differant projects throughout the years that I’ve been in this line of work – roads, buildings, water/sanitary installations, demolition and Environmental clean-up/remidiation and in all the time I’ve been doing this – I have never seen the drastic conditions that this state is in, very bad. If there is no construction going on – there’s no growth. I don’t need any training as some of the lame politicians have proposed, we need work – I noticed congress passed a Infastructure bill this past week, they should have done this 2 years ago and it probably would’ve fend off many problems Michigan is facing now. Construction creates growth and I can’t believe it took them this long to figure that out – it took them almost 3 years to pass this bill and that’s why I’m concerned with this Unemployment Bill – They Always act too late and create way more problems in thier procrastinations on every issue critical to the way this Country runs and functions – And over the last 7 years everything has faced a major downfall – look at the mess with the Banks, credit, housing, food/gas prices and just about everything you touch has gone through the roof. I’m not laying blame on any paticular individual in the current Administration – I’m Blaming the Whole group, they have got to be the most irresponsible bunch of political miss-haps that this Country has ever had the misfortune of letting control the outcomes and future prospects for this Country and it’s definately not looking good any time in the near future either. They have let this Country be sold-out to the foriegn operations and it makes me sick to know they borrow more and more everyday and what’s really frightening is the upcoming generations, they are going to have an even harder time trying to get by with the way this Country is going and headed – and to be frank, we as American Citizens should be Outraged and Pissed – I know I am, very much so!

The U.I. fund is tens of billions of dollars in SURPLUS! There is absolutely NO reason to vote NAY on this bill!!! The working people paid in sweat and toil into this fund! WE NOW NEED THIS MONEY! Do not accept a NAY VOTE!!! Above ALL, DO NOT accept a veto from this lame-duck, war-criminal president!!!

  • Anonymous 04/18/2008 8:47pm

This guy is no good -Unfortunatly he’s in office till 2011

He’s said there is no need for unemployment extensions-

  • Anonymous 04/18/2008 8:53pm

Some people have not been affected yet, but I guarantee they all know someone near and dear to them that HAVE been! PASS THIS BILL!

  • Anonymous 04/18/2008 9:05pm

I swear, when I talk to some people, it’s like we’re living in a different world. Ya, they complain about gas & food prices. But when I start telling them about things, credit card companies raising rates on good history & FICO scores, lay-offs, etc. They look at me like I’m crazy. I just want to scream at them and ask..Don’t you watch the news. Maybe they’re in denial. I remember going through this when I would have chats with people that insisted bush was a great president. Now, of course, they just say, oh, all politicians are corrupt. It make me CRAZY!!!

Before you people who we elected to a nice cushy job lay your heads down to sleep in your nice cushy pillows, think about this, there are 300 MILLION of US! How many are there of YOU? The outcome of this vote will affect ALL of us because who knows where the next lay-off will be? Who out here can have confidence that their job will still be there next week besides YOU?

  • michiganneedsUE 04/18/2008 9:15pm

I have told everyone that I know about this Bill and all of them are 100% in agreement on the need for the Extension’s. I just hope that congress can get “real” and quit the arguing back n forth and actually do something productive for once and help the people who need it. We are hurting all over this Country, the economy is screwed up and all the Politicians want to do – is to see who can beat it to the outdoor and take 3 day weekends – I think it’s pathetic. People in this Country Need Help – not because were lazy – because a selected bunch of Elected Officials have performed thier jobs with sickening results.

  • Anonymous 04/18/2008 9:15pm

I have a little info for you: Approx. 4% of the US pop.are illegal aliens (12 million) There is a bill in the senate to grant amnesty to the 12 million at a cost of 2.6 trillion dollars to the taxpayers over the next decade. The IRS collected 2.2 trillion in 2006 in income tax from the entire working pop. In LA county Ca alone – taxpayer bill is one billion per year. Elderly non-citizens will cost taxpayers 328 billion dollars in the next decade. My point: it’s a shame and disgusting that our own taxpaying citizens cannot receive a 13 week UI extension to possibly keep the wolves from the door while trying to find employment.

  • Anonymous 04/18/2008 9:16pm

What can I add to this that hasn’t already been said. Unemployment runs out in 2 weeks. We are drowning in bills. All our savings is gone. In a week or two we will be dragging the contents of our house out on to our front lawn for one massive yard sale. We lose our health insurance in 2 months. My husband is a diabetic, and both of our boys and myself suffer from asthma. Our youngest child has TS. None of us can go without medication. Since the lay off there has been times we have been hungry, and cold. Our oil will run out soon, so that will mean no hot water. We do everything we can to conserve and skrimp, from food to utilities. When I cross over the river between our two small towns there is a tent city on the rivers edge populated by the homeless, and now I wonder if our next address will be the rivers edge.

  • Anonymous 04/18/2008 9:16pm

“All politicians are corrupt”? That is precisely why we need to stop putting up with it, and RIGHT NOW! These creepy crawly politicians will be brought to justice as soon as we have HAD ENOUGH, and get our BALLS back! I predict this will happen in the not to distant future! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

  • Anonymous 04/18/2008 9:24pm

NO citizen of this country, supposedly the richest on Earth, should have to go hungry, without health insurance, without heat, without water, without electricity and wondering where the hell they’re going to LIVE next week! Whoever votes against this bill, VOTE THEM THE HELL OUT OF OFFICE! And NEVER, EVER let them back into politics!

  • michiganneedsUE 04/18/2008 9:25pm

But sadly enough, there are lots of people out there – that can’t even tell you who the first President was – let alone to beable to keep current with the countrys situation as it is now – just think of how many people that vote – that actually have a clue as to who thier voting for and don’t understand any of the issue’s – they just vote because he/she is or isn’t popular.

OMG I just saw an ad for a show on HGTV…refund redesign. Unbelievable!!! I wonder what the number is of rebates that will be going to pay taxes for 2007?

  • Anonymous 04/18/2008 9:39pm

These “refund stimulus checks” will go to debt! Credit card debt, past due utility bills, rent, tax bills, etc.! This stimulus simply WILL NOT WORK without the unemployment extensions! Anyone with even a C+ in general math can forecast THAT!

  • Anonymous 04/18/2008 9:43pm

WE WILL HOLD THE CRIMINALS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE MISERY THAT GOOD WORKING PEOPLE WILL HAVE TO LIVE THROUGH IF THIS BILL IS NOT PASSED! YOU CAN BANK ON THAT!

  • Anonymous 04/18/2008 9:58pm

We need this bill passed, effective IMMEDIATELY! How many more cold, hungry nights should we endure? What the hell is going on with this country? Are they ASKING for a revolution??? They had better not because they will surely LOSE! The fund is tens of BILLIONS of dollars in SURPLUS!! Do they expect us to take this lying down? THIS IS INSANITY!

  • Anonymous 04/18/2008 10:02pm

What the hell is taking so long? We need a vote RIGHT NOW! Another week of hunger is acceptable to these snobs? VOTE ON THE GODDAMNED BILL! You people WILL be held to account so do NOT fuck with us!!!!!!

  • broke 04/18/2008 10:14pm

There are currently 1.3 million workers—or 17.5 percent of all unemployed workers—who have been jobless for more than six months….The long-term unemployment rate is already much higher than it was at the beginning of the 2001 and 1990-1991 recessions, and is the same as when Congress extended benefits during the last two recessions….

    Taken from an article.

    WTF THEY WAITING FOR.

  • reddragon 04/18/2008 10:26pm

I predict that alot of “politicians” will be seeking employment in another field after November. They just cant seem to keep their grubby little hands out of trouble. They cant seem to refrain from stabbing us in the back. But the tables are turning now thanks to the internet! The truth is now getting out to the masses and WE are 300 MILLION STRONG!!! Their arrogant treasons will be brought to account! WE WILL WIPE THE SMIRKS RIGHT OFF OF THEIR FACES!! Condescending ASSHOLES! Hold on a little bit longer people!

  • reddragon 04/18/2008 10:34pm

I am sick and tired of having to even DEBATE this issue! There shouldnt even BE a debate! The fund is tens of billions in SURPLUS! WE NEED IT! IT IS OURS! IT IS OBVIOUS TO ALL THAT WE ARE IN A RECESSION! GIVE US THESE FUNDS THAT WE PAID AND ARE ENTITLED TO! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TO VOTE AGAINST THIS IS SIMPLY TREASONOUS! PERIOD!!!!!!!

  • reddragon 04/18/2008 10:44pm

This SHOULD have been passed way back in February before they took their vacation. Many Americans have had to endure serious poverty since then!

  • reddragon 04/18/2008 10:45pm

    “OPERATION ENDURING POVERTY”!
