To amend title 37, United States Code, to require the payment of monthly special pay for members of the uniformed services whose service on active duty is extended by a stop-loss order or similar mechanism.

This would truly be a blessing in desiguse! I was stop lossed in May of 2003 for 6 months, at a location that was (is) supporting the Afgan war. With a wife and 2 small childern at home, this stop loss was difficult for me & others as I was planning to get home & retire and was told "sorry"!, you'll be here as long as you're needed. WOW I of course had no other options and did another 3 months in country, after already being deployed numerous months before this. Lets pray that this passes!
Prior to 9/11 when I was 18 I signed up for a 6 year enlistment. There was no talk of stop-loss back then, it was understood I would serve 6 and end my service. Then I was hit with stop-loss and sent to Iraq 5 months before my end of service. I served an extra 11 months on top of my initial 6 years. Almost 7 years on 1 enlistment, with no bonus the whole time... it would be nice if this passed.
The military normally gives some incentive for their service members to re-enlist, for stop-loss service members you receive nothing. I think asking more from those already giving,(more than the rest of the country), without any thank you is just taking advantage of those members.
I just got hit-my ETS was 27June 08-I am in the WA Army National Guard with my unit deploying to Iraq end of August-it will be 15 months extra service.
My ETS was 15Jan2008 deploying for 12-15 months, left Jan 1st. I was enrolled in school was set to start on the 15th of January when I got out but I was told that it wasn't a good enough reason even though I had everything set up to move.
The stop loss wasn't the worst part though it is the fact that since I have joined the Army I have always had difficult time with running, and now I am flagged. So not only has the army forced me to stay in an extra 15 months but I can't even progress in my career when I deserved it long time ago.
My husband's contract was up in February 08 and he got stop loss in march, to leave on 15 month tour to Afghanistan in April..he will be there until July 2009. I think it is unfair that he gets no compensation for being forced to stay in and deploy for a 3rd time. This bill would mean the world to us and our future.
My husband was also hit with the stop-loss and was forced to remain in active duty for an additional TWO YEARS!! This sure would have come in handy during that time. I pray this bill passes for all of the others involved in this situation. God Bless Our Troops.
To the second poster. Every contract has an IRR period in which the Army can call you back to service if there is a need. The way I read it you would only receive compensation if your were under a stop loss and your entire contract, to include IRR time obligation, was met. So in your case of having a 6x2 contract you were not out of your contract obligation with seven years and one month. Secondly, you as a soldier have to initiate the paperwork to officially terminate your service in the Army. The military will continue to require you to drill and deploy even if you are out of contract until such paperwork is submitted. Hope I am wrong, but that is how I see it.
In my case, I was placed on stop loss 90 days out prior to my seperation date from my contract. My mobilization was 01DEC03 and my contract obligation ended 03 DEC03. I spent the next 12 months out of contract in Iraq.
This is much needed, Served 14 months on stop loss in iraq, after fulfilling an 8 year committment. I never received a bonus for my first enlistment or my re enlistment, and yet several soldiers were given some large bonuses just for a short enlistment, or a nice bonus to re enlist. The additional 14 months caused a lot of financial strain on my family whom I had to leave behind, yet I still served my country proud!!! Support the troops!!!
I have 13 years of service, I was stop lossed on Nov 10 2007, my ETS was Dec 28 2007. After an e-mail to Congress Women Sutton., I was informed that this bill if passed would be retroactive to Oct 2001. This something that will benefit all who were put in this hardship. Write your Congress Person from your states and urge them to vote yes on HR6205.
as a former army infantryman and a veteran of iraq who was stop-lossed an additional 14 months after my original ETS date, i fully support this bill. if it is not passed it would be yet another stab in the back to military, veterans, and the spirit of the greatest nation on earth. word!
This bill should definitely be passed. I was supposed to be out September 05, was put on stop-loss and deployed to Iraq October 05'-July 07. I took a pay for the deployment and my son was born 2 months prior to getting deployed. Not much I could do and I would never take away my deployment because it was such a great experience. It would just be nice to have some compensation for my service.
