Here is an excerpt from what appears on ‘the hill’ website. Looks as though she is not committing to a lame duck session. what a joke. now i see why people are saying nothing until after january. and that will likely be even later than january, as little legislation gets passed for at least a month after a new president takes office. they are probably timing the passage of this stimulus after obama takes office so that they can ‘showcase’ what great things the dems are doing for the middle class. disgusting. letting one million unemployed people fall through the cracks, while giving wall street a trillion.

    here’s the excerpt:
“Pelosi said the package would be hammered out after various committees hold hearings in the coming weeks, adding that it may well exceed the $61 billion economic stimulus package that the House recently passed. That measure stalled in the Senate.

“We plan to go forward expeditiously but not hastily,” Pelosi said.

The Speaker did not answer directly whether or not she will convene a lame-duck session of Congress following the Nov. 4 elections but indicated that it is a possibility.

“We will have the hearings and we’ll see what they yield,” she said. “We stand ready to take action when we are ready to do so.”

what a joke. we plan to proceed expeditiously but not hastily. gee, they sure moved fast enough when wall street needed it. it took them only a week to authorize 700 billion!! and everyone has already forgotten that all this happened because the entire financial system was peopled by the morally corrupt.

    [Posting from Chicago]

I have a feeling there will be no update on this new assistance for at least a month or more.

What sucks is that I certified today.. I will get my last check in a few days.. it’s not even a normal, full check, it’s just for one week of benefits. I have nothing left after this.

Neither candidate for president is a good one. We are presented with two crappy choices. Going to have to choose the “best” of the “worst”.

At the Pelosi news conference today , usual talk about helping mainstreet..BUT
2 economists mentioned the Unemployed and Benefits.
The first was a ROBERT KUTTNER Senior Advisor of the DEMOS PUBLIC POLICY AND ADVOCACY GROUP who said help must go to the unemplyed who are losing and HAVE LOST their benefits. He said hearings should be held now so that the new president had all this set out before he came into office. Also this stimulus must be mostly for main street not wall street as the first one was aimed mainly at wall street.
The second was JARED BERNSTEIN,Senior Economist of the ECONOMIC POLICY INITIAVE who also said help must go to the unemployed. He then said that 800,000, the 13 week extension group, have JUST LOST their benefits, must ALSO BE covered in this new package. He said the rate of unemployment is 6.1% – but that that figure is WRONG – ITS REALLY OVER 11% counting those who have just run out of unemployment benefits.
None of Pelosi’s other advisory economists mentioned the unemployed.
Perhaps we email or call and thank these 2 guys. It will keep them going for us.
Pelosi said the last stimulus was written by both parties and the republicans got the benefit. She said if the republicans again wanted to block THIS vote the democrats might as well write the package alone.
People are now trying for whatever reasons.
BUT, Pelosi, and Obama, and the economists like Rubin, Bernstein, Summers, Kuttner, Kruge, (who today won the Nobel Prize for economics), are part of OBAMA’s team and are now advising Pelosi. ALL PUBLICLY TODAY CALLING FOR AN EXTENSION OF UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS—- its a big step forward.
    WISH US ALL LUCK

what about nelp? how many members do they have? if congress were flooded with calls, that might change their mind about how urgent this matter is. why isn’t there more outrage that congress gave all our money away to crooks, but is telling one million unemployed go to hell?

She really stuck it to us didn’t she? Pretended to be for Main Street and she destroyed HR 6867’s chances of passing, she wants that stimulus package and infostructure, when she said today that there will be a SERIES of meetings, I thought just as others here did, Oh Oh, not going to see anything until January, grrrrr!

the news media needs to know what is happening. nothing for one million unemployed with no income. if anyone here is in PR, please post your contact list so we can write and call…this is outrageous.

pelosi is waffling about whether a lame duck session of congress will even be called. my guess is that she struck a deal with the obama campaign to delay passage of the stimulus until AFTER he is in office. that way, they can say, “look what we did for the middle class”.

the 11 million unemployed should march on washington.

Can’t until 2010. Trust me if she was up for re-election we would ALL have the extension. And Sen. Allard blocking it in the Senate because he was retiring. My eyes have been truly opened over this last year and I don’t like what I see at all. These people are ALL disgusting. I am not voting for Obama it is beyond low he is on the trail dangling extensions over our head for votes. And the Republicans are terrible too. We need a real 3rd party. I am beyond amazed and disgusted. Vote all serving members out. Political party should have nothing to do with it. And if people on here can’t see what a shitty thing the Democrats and Obama are doing to the unemployed then you are truly blind. And make sure to thank Biden on the campaign trail for helping to lead the changes in the bankruptcy laws. I am now feeling truly hopeless and unless I get a job in the next month I will be homeless and have my own state congresswoman to thank for it. There is nothing left to even fight for my life is now beyond getting back.

got my last check this week. have no idea whether anyone will even return my calls … i can survive for a time, but not until january. i am loathe to look to ask anyone else for ‘help’. UE in my area is probably (realistically) around 10+ percent. hope the wall street execs enjoy their catered lunches today. the stock market is up almost 700 points. of COARSE they are happy. and, yes, very aware what the Dems have done. pelosi had PLENTY of oportunity to make this happen and chose not to do so. i now wonder whether she was in contact with the obama campaign ages ago, and whether this was all planned (delay helping the middle class until after he is elected). am voting dem, but am not at all happy with them at the moment. they have some explaining to do. we have the biggest gap between rich and poor since 1929, and what do we do? give the ’haves’t the keys to ‘our’ treasury.
