The issue with Lebannon is directly connected to the rising power of Shi'ites in Iraq, Iran and Palestine. The Shi'a supporters have grown into the majority, and can therefore push any electorial decision. Suppressing Hesbollah is baldly calling for a subversion of any democracy in the Islamic world. Is that what we really want? Many side with Hesbollah simply because they see them as the only opposition short of desparate terrorism, to the US hegemony.
We've tried to subvert similar groups, Iraq is a great example and the allies we made to do it were why we are occupying Iraq today. A neutral position, for a change is probably called upon, as we haven't been successful in the past, and don't need to poke any more sticks in this hornet's nest.
