Elder abuse and neglect in nursing homes is a disturbing fact of life in today’s society. All too often it goes unreported. Elderly residents of nursing homes are helpless and vulnerable, and they need proactive supporters of their cause to speak up for them. My mother died recently due to medical malpractice and neglect in a nursing home. Because I was forced to sign an arbitration agreement prior to her admission, I am barred from filing a wrongful death lawsuit to avenge her death and hold the facility accountable for their wrongdoing. This is a shame and should not be tolerated in a just society.
