We should care about the poor…yes. But not before we fix our own house.

Ah! Nothing like a reasonable, well argued and totally eloquent response. Is that meant as a proposition or are you just venting because you have exhausted your vocabulary?
You have to love the people who denigrate others based on something irrelevant, like choice of words, instead of coming up with an articulate counter-point. Seriously, if you disagree with another person’s comments, try stating some reason, substantiate your belief system with empirical evidence, use some fact. Otherwise, your attempt to marginalize another because they don’t have what you deem to be a sufficient vocabulary is obtuse at best.
Nice of you to plagerize a book on the Socratic method. Did you copy it or did you go to the trouble of memorizing it?
Our house will always be in disrepair. I just wish we could decide what America’s economic policy should be and stick with it. Are we Capitalist, Communist, Facists, or the rich uncle who gives out free cars. This indecisiveness over where our money should go is strangling middle america. We cannot be all of the above.
In this bill I learned there is a ban on small arms which leaves the general public defenseless and enforcement would be enforced by UN troops, commits us to annual taxation of 7% of US gross national product. Many other items within this bill will be terrible for the average American and the American economy. I do not believe the average American knows Obama does not fly our American Flag. The middle American can barely feed his own, how does anyone in there right mind think they can feed a starving world? Are Americans being sold out?

You are wrong here. Please read the bill carefully and do not disseminate false or misleading information. The bill is good for America because it helps reduce extreme poverty in the developing world which lifts all boats, economically speaking. Your 7% figure is grossly exaggerated. The actually figure is .7 percent of the GNP which is a figure that the United States and the rest of the developed world pledged to provide in Official Development Assistance over 30 years ago, and we have never even approached aid at those levels. We are far behind most other developed countries in helping other less advantaged people around the world. Most of our so-called foreign aid goes for military aid for just two countries: Israel and Egypt. In absolute numbers our humanitarian aid seems generous, but in percentage of GNP it is far below what smaller developed countries like Norway and Sweden and Denmark provide. We give less in humanitarian aid because our defense budget requires so much, trillions and trillions of dollars. Now we have to protect the rest of the world that has cut their military exprenditures in favor of domestic spending on such necessities as universal health care coverage and good schools. We have lousy schools and a lousy health insurance coverage.
Lets downsize military expenditures and use the money for national health care and better schools.
The Clinton’s did this for their entire presidency and look where it got us. 9/11. Say what you will, but a large portion of the world would like nothing but to see the demise of the United States of America. The one sure way to ensure our survival is reliance on our own military.
Jealousy.
They are jealous of what our forefathers have built for us to enjoy.
What I find unbelievable is that we now have this worldwide raving majority saying we are evil. Come the first tsunami or earthquake or flood or refugee movement and they are looking to us for food and water.
What happened after Katrina? Where was Denmark, Norway and Sweden? Ii did not see their helicopters flying over New Orleans. I did not see their Navy supplying humanitarian aid just off our coast. Do you know why? BECAUSE WE ARE THE ONES WHO FILL THIS ROLE! EVERYWHERE!
Did anyone forget that it was the U.S. that FREED DENMARK, SWEDEN AND NORWAY from the Nazis? How many US lives were lost fighting for THIER FREEDOM?
WELL? Anyone care to answer that? Learn your history BEFORE making assinine comments.
And they didn’t do it with a downsized military.
If you like universal health care so much then let’s do it.
I am all in favor of SHRINKING our average life expectancy. Making us go to doctors we do not care for. Waiting for elective surgeries because we cannot choose what we want done and when we want it done.
Sure, universal health care means that everyone is covered. What level are you willing to support it? Can YOU afford a whole new, non-deductible tax in your paycheck?
How do we pay for all of the nifty research that the OTHER DEVELOPED COUNTRIES DO NOT PAY FOR? When our “expensive” private health care system goes away, so goes the expensive medical and pharmaceutical research! Get a clue.
I need to feed and clothe my innocent children BEFORE I give a hand-out to another toxic, non-democratic regime in Africa.
You’ve obviously never heard of France. No.1 healthcare system in the world.
The article i just read on the french system was interesting. Their system is goverment run and guided. It says in the article that so long as we recognize the legitemate role of government in overseing the rules and the framework within which these actors operate.
In france the doctors earn 1/4 of that which they earn here. They strike because they are being treated unfairly by the government. There are striking disparities in the quality of healthcare in different regions. There are lists of hospitals delivering dangerous healthcare.
Do i know what the answer is no. But i know that i will never say that a freedom loving american can ever say that they recognize the legitemate role of government in overseeing anything. Our country is based on the individual and individual ownership, not in government control of private industry.
This country is falling to those who dont want to work and earn the money it takes to bring about change. Those so called educated elite who dont understand what it takes to create wealth, but still believe they understand how to spend it.
I thought Cuba had the “best healthcare in the world.”
yeah right and they pledged troops for the Un too! Where are those troops? you wish to downsize the military. who do you want to protect us and the smaller developed nation who downsized military expenditures for domestic spending, the UN?
Lets (western nations)tie the price of food to the towelheads to the price of oil they sell us. It requires lots of energy to get the food to market so its fair.!! Next psunami? Let Allah help! Afterall, they hate us over there dont they? Africa? lets supply them with condoms and instruction at how to use them. In a few generations, the problems in Africa will wain Kosovo? Isn’t that near Europe…Maybe Europe can help solve that! Defending the rest of the world Bring all our troops home and protect our borders! Try to take my gun?? I don’t think that would be smart of you to try!! if the liberals want to give all their money to dirtbags around the world, let them give their money Not mine! Do I care if you think Im selfish or uncompassionate? No Friggn Way! Im just sick of all the crap. It’s Time to take back the TV from Japan and Korea and time to start drivng Chevys again God Bless (help) America
“In absolute numbers our humanitarian aid seems generous, but in percentage of GNP it is far below what smaller developed countries like Norway and Sweden and Denmark provide.”
Here, you are making a typical error, ignoring the “humanitarian” aid that comes from non-governmental sources, such as churches, privately-run missions, and individual donors, which is far better targeted and more effective than government aid. Individually, Americans are the most generous people on earth, sending millions in private donations annually to places most of us can’t find on a map because there is a need.
If, in fact, we want to lift the Third World out of poverty, sending them a check is the wrong way. We should target our money to drilling wells to provide potable drinking water and water for irrigation, to educating their citizens on basic sanitation and sustainable agricultural practices, and to developing farm-to-market road systems that will encourage entrepreneurship.
Before you pontificate about poor countries, you should try living in one for a few years. Then, you would know that government dollars more often than not go to buy new Mercedes and villas for local bureaucrats.
Thank You for saying so eloquently what I wanted said. We give privately when can afford to do so. We as a nation are very generous.
Well its interesting that you skipped the small arms confiscation. Do you stand in a position superior to our founding fathers. They understood the insidiousness of tyrany. That our country must be prepared to defend itself from the very government that pretends to protect it. Do you live in an idealistic bubble. Do you think dictators tell the people the truth when they are spewing their toxic babble.
Its all for your good. Have you read the books animal farm and 1984. Do you live in a plastic bubble with dancing unicorns that you can ride at will. The patriarch kennedy in WWII gave away the farm to hitler and did it stop him no.
A global party where everyone is equal, wake up from your sixties flashback drug haze. Dictators and our race sad as it is only knows force. We are animals who believe we have the ability to self rule, but were bad at it. Look at history.
If you let them take away our weapons then soon theyll take away our private property. After that they start executing all that disagree with them.
The funny thing is they usually start executing the intellectuals like yourself first.Remember that reality the next time you take a ride on your unicorn.
If only Americans understood what Universal Health Care is really about. For one thing, can you name anything that the government manages that is not a total screw-up. I have relatives in Canada and they can tell you what Universal Health Care is, and believe me it’s not what I nor anyone I know want. Before Americans start screaming about what they don’t have, they need to do a little research to see what the people in these “government run” countries really have. And another thing, government run health care IS NOT FREE, the premiums are deducted from your check just like Federal, FICA, etc. taxes before you see them.
Wake up people, if you want to live in a socialist or communist country, then MOVE…
Do you really think that taking a huge chunk of the little military budget would finance health care for 330 million people? And build schools? Do a quick comparison of the actual military budget and compare it to what we (already) spend on useless entitlement programs that reward the non-working class at the expense of the people that are willing to work. Every time I hear this argument, I have to think about all the people that espouse knowledge of economics, but really only repeat what their masters tell them.
Get a real education (your government will pay for it).
National health care money goes to lawyers and frivoulous law suites. People don’t have insurance because they are lazy and won’t get a job or they don’t want to spend money on premiums.
The NEA is filled with jerk teachers who don’t want to really work and teach radical liberalism and sex ed and not much more. They have screwed up this country with revised history and lousy classroom conduct. They all should be put on probation and fined for filling kids heads with crap.
People need to take responsibility for their decisions. Make a bad decision that ruins your life then it’s your responsiblity to work to fix it – not the rest of the country.
Read the damn bill before you misquote it: 0.7 percent IS NOT SEVEN PERCENT, you idiot!
Where did you find the comment to ban small arms? That interests me, but I didn’t see it when I perused the document.
This bill is related to other bill and resolutions in these subject areas as identified by the Congressional Research Service. This lets congress to pass other bill with out the WORDS SMALL ARMS in this bill. The do it all the time. Check out this web site below.

We’re being sold out because Hussein Obama is not an American. He’s Kenyan by birth and Marxist by politics. He should be in jail for all the laws he’s broken.
