No, It’s not dead yet. Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the house said this is an issue that could be looked at after the stimulus package was approved. She didn’t want it held up. (Missed by one vote). Congress is back in session and I would hope that this item would be first on their agenda.

I agree. I have been laid off now since August, but had a severance package. I worked in the mortgage industry as an underwriter, and there is NOTHING out there for me. I just started Nursing school, and am through the 1st semester. My unemployment will run out next month. If I do not find something I am screwed!!. I hope they extend them, and SOON!!!

  • Anonymous 02/19/2008 11:28am

My benefits ran at the end of October of last year and still no job and it’s definetly not for the lack of trying. I’ve already lost my home to forecloser and am living with my parents at the age of 40.. An extension through the winter months would be so helpful..

My husband was laid off after 28 yrs of service to the same company on his 60th birthday. He has been to one job interview in the past one year after interviews with several head hunters and applying to thousands of companies. For those high priced consultants to the bill who believe that the passing of this bill would be a deterent to the unemployed from seeking jobs i would like to invite them to walk in his shoes for atleast a day.I hope that the bill will be passed.

I was laid-off in April of 2007 from my job of 7 years and my benefits ran out in November. I have a 2 year old son and another child due in April. I have gone back to school full-time and search for a job daily to no avail so far. I fell like the Democrats could have pushed harder for this, but the Republicans will surely pay a steep price in November for their unwillingness to help people in desperate situations who have paid into the system their entire lives.

Wouldn’t you think giving extensions to those thousands of unemployed, whose benefits have run out within the last 6 months put money into the economy faster then the rebates that won’t be here until atleast mid-may?

Amen to that one! I too have been unemployed since last September and absolutely nothing is coming my way. Why won’t they extend what we have all paid in to for so long………desperate in CA

  • Anonymous 02/21/2008 7:05am

I agree with you, the government should of pass the unemployment extension before the rebates. There are alot of unemployed Americans who benfits ran out or will soon.

  • Anonymous 02/21/2008 7:44am

SO if are benefits run out this month or last month, or next month… Then the bill gets passed, will we be granted the 13 more weeks if we hadn’t found a job yet?

Everything I have read in the proposed Bill (s) indicates that yes you would.

Is NY one of the states that would be considered for extension if unemployment extentsion gets passed?

  • Anonymous 02/21/2008 3:23pm

This is just sad we can so much money to other countries but we cannot help our own. I live in MIchigan with highest unemployment rate and finding a job is unlikely right now. I have 3 more checks coming and then I am done. I am thankful for the checks coming in May but I wont have anywhere to live by then and where will they deliver that check to my car?

  • Anonymous 02/21/2008 5:25pm

Where can I go to find more information regarding the possible extentension of unemployment benefits?? Should we be writing to our representatives on this issue? My husband is unemployed and he has about 2 months left, we live in Ohio and jobs are absolutely terrible to come by…Please inform me of anything I can do? or info on the internet regarding this bill? Or writing representatives???

  • Anonymous 02/22/2008 7:19am

You can contact your local representative, through their state website via e-mail,phone.

  • Anonymous 02/22/2008 7:21am

An extension at the first of Feb would have immediately put $$ in the hands of the unemployed and put cash into the economy faster then these rebate checks… Soooooo, frustrated with our government!

  • Anonymous 02/22/2008 8:15am

Bush wants to give all these other countries aid but he does not care about the people in this country who need help.

  • nickssoundidea 02/22/2008 8:45am

Why is it that Bush wants to give aid to every one but Americans. I can`t for the life of me understand how this man thinks.

It’s frustrating all we talk here without any positive result…I’m wondering what should we do to survive? If we have no money, no job, no opportunities in the land of opportunities, America!!!
It’s very sad that in Florida there are no laws to protect workers, it’s very sad that here there’s slavery and nobody cares….farm workers work even 70 hours weekly (or they’re fired)and everybody knows and nobody cares. Big Plant Nurseries and Medium size also, pay whatever they want in taxes, and that is ignored…and in addition there are no jobs, unless you accept to be paid for whatever or no job for you….I wish things change someday in the south….At least would be good to see some justice and less administrative corruption here!!!

Stimulus package great idea. Alot of us can use the money. But Bush opposes the unemployment extensions? whats more important? That people with jobs get extra money or that the unemployed get an extension thats much needed to find a job that can at least even the living expenses. Houses are being foreclosed on in mass numbers and a rebate check is going to solve this? We need to rebuild this economy from the ground up. And i watched the debate last night. Learning a second language for americans? Great if you elect to. But i think it should be mandatory that anyone in this country who is legal, needs to learn the language of america! ENGLISH!

The USA does NOT have an official language. If we do not insist on English as our official language we may all be speaking a different language.
With the economy so bad we must insist those who do not belong here to leave. There are not enough jobs now just wait till our troops come home and try to find a job. We will be seriously headed for a DEPRESSION.

agree, made English mandatory, now there crying because the parents are getting sent back because their here illegal, but the kids where born here, so they can stay, pass a law saying that if you are born from illegal parents here, then that makes the child illegal, mandatory, then ship them back with the parents!! they get help to feed them , pay for their rent and cloth them , and here we are without jobs. also make it the retirement age goes back to 62 and 65, put the younger folks who are able to work, put them to work, and not on getting paid to sit on their butts and cry i got to many kids and i can’t get a job, boo hoo. force them to get a job, let the older folks that have work hard all their life enjoy some retirement before they die and not make them work at walmart saying , hi welcome to walmart!!! because people are so called living longer.. I know the wasn’t wrote correct but was in a hurry. lol
unemployed here, trying to find a job!!!
get that none speaking , no english, person out of their job send them back, then we can go get a job.
now if they come here legal and work hard like the rest of us Americans!!! I have no problem with it….

Regarding the illegal parents and child born in the United States. I agree that at least one parent needs to be a US citizen to be denoted a US citizen. I mean Canada and Mexico should be pissed that the US is stealing their citizens their future populations.

The consulate allows for child born abroad act why doesn’t this apply to these folks? The newborn should receive a child born abroad act certificate and sent home with there parents.

Helping other countries has been the american way for a long time, but doesnt the government think its time to regulate that spending and put it into our own country which is crumbling fast! My son needs shots he is 15 months and i keep getting rejected for doctors who wont take medicaid. Anyone rember that song whats going on? What is going on? God bless all of you in this struggle. If obama or clinton get in which one of them should, I think we will see some good changes. Id like my son to be in AMERICA. As i see it now this is no longer america. This is a dogfight 50 states large

The news keeps reporting that unemployment is down….however, they don’t take into consideration the number of people that have been on unemployment and their benifits have run out. The job market is bleak at best right now…and those people have no way of paying their bills. Looks like if Bush has his way, there are gonna be a lot of homeless poeple in this country.

  • Anonymous 02/22/2008 2:17pm

my last check is in 2 weeks im already behind in my house payments and once my benifits are over i dont know how we are goin to eat and pay the rest of our bills they need to look over the plan again and hopefully pass it this time

  • Anonymous 02/22/2008 5:50pm

My unemployment is gone, and my husband is loosing his job. His company had been in business for over 100 years, and they announced yesterday that its closing.. Dont know what to do…It shows you that Bush doesnt care about the people who are trying to make it day to day. The extension would help me and my family.

  • Anonymous 02/22/2008 6:17pm

My unemployment ran out this week. I am a single mom with three kids and are now living at my brothers sleeping in the living room. Hopefully the bill will get passed soon.

  • Anonymous 02/22/2008 7:06pm

My unemployment runs out in two weeks.I have two kids and two dogs.I have applied for everything from wine tasting to merchandising. There only one job in my field(meatcutter) in the whole state and that is 2 hrs away. The gov. does not see or care about the needs of its people or they would not waste time on the bills they are currently working on. I have only one resource left" GOD" so I think I will say a prayer for all of us.
