Lets forward this message board to as many people as possible, there are thousand of unemployed and hungry people, if we can do this and write our representatives it may help. And…sending our bills to Bush…thats a good idea! They have no idea what it is to live like us blue collar folks. Lets all forward this board, write and email to get our message across.

In my mind you can thank Nancy Pelosi for not fighting to include extensions in the 1st vote she said something like if we need more we will get it. When Nancy from where?

  • jgallop 03/01/2008 5:58am

Michigan, Ohio and several other states need at least an extension of unemployment benefits, They are losing jobs daily to outsourcing , this is corporate greed.

It makes me sick…all this money for the stimulus package was borrowed from China. Then we have to pay them back with interest to boot and all the products we buy anymore are made in China, so who is making out here!! All our jobs are overseas, we have nothing, our government is deserting us, the rich get richer, we are losing our homes and going hungry. This coming election doesn’t leave much to vote for…We need a PATRIOT in the white house to fight for us!

Well I guess they think all that lead has gone to our heads….Borrowing from a country who cares nothing about this countries well being….But then again neither does bush

  • kbone3 03/01/2008 11:38am

What makes me sick is the fact that each year our unemployment rate goes up. Businesses are moving out of the country because they can produce cheaper in other countries. Why??? Because the comsumer does not want to pay the high prices. Fact is… If the companies in the United States were forced to purchase from other companies in the United States we wouldn’t be in this situation. We need to concentrate more on OUR country and let the rest of the world take care of themselves. If the unemployment extension does not pass, there will be a lot more people left homeless with the economy the way it is.

The one person that could have helped pass the complete package for the extra food stamps, unemployment extension was Mr John McCain!! He didn’t bother to go vote. The bill lost by 1 vote! unreal!!

I wrote to McCain & informed him that by his not voting he decided for me that he would not be getting my vote he was in Washington but did not show for the vote. I advise all to do the same we do not need another one in there who dismisses the needs of everyday people.

I am sure that Bush told Mc Cain not to rush back to Washington. That’s why it never got passed. I am on to all of these lunatics in office.

As of today, I have applied at 217 employers ranging from the west coast to the east coast. Out of 217, I have ONLY interviewed twice. One for a production line position and one for sales position. Both didn’t require any skills or experience and NEVER heard a word after the interview, not even a letter or call. In July 2007, I started to collect $243 a week. That wasn’t anything close to what I was making. Now I’ve exhausted my benefits and I’ve lost my house and 2 cars. Now the question is to the Bush administration is, “Why do you think foreclosures are at an all time high?” When jobs are lost and very LITTLE income(unemployment) is coming in the household and oneself CAN NOT get an aveage paying job, this is what happens. You ask, what am I going to do? Really nothing. This government does not take care and guide the American people through tough times, how can this government take care of OTHER COUNTRIES and give AID like if it comes off the press and out in neat piles ready to be shipped to some country that American people never heard of. We don’t see OTHER countries HELPING us in AID, JOBS, and of course OIL. We ALL can’t wait for OIL to go to $4.00 a gallon. This may be a good thing, because minimum wage SHOULD go up to $12 per hour!!! We ALL wish, right? This entire government NEEDS to be REORGANIZED and NEEDS TO HAPPEN THIS ELECTTION YEAR!!! We don’t need ANYMORE rich people in office in PUBLIC OFFICE! When someone runs for PUBLIC OFFICE, there should a be maximum of what that person is worth and they should NOT have ANY other interests in companies, corporations, privately held companies ANYTHING that produces income. They ALL should be treating as WE UNEMPLOYED ARE!!! Background checks ie, ChoicePoint, Credit Checks, Reference Checks and if ANY adverse inforation is found, they should be REMOVED from PUBLIC OFFICE!!! This county of ours where FREEDOM is written in black & white is depleated faster then the OZONE. We MUST TAKE TAKEN THIS YEAR!!! We NEED a president who knows what we are needing and who shares the needs of US! Please VOTE this year! Don’t let this next president be a DICATOR, let us dictate what WE NEED!!

I posted the original response to this question and here is a brief summary: Unemployment extensions could have been included in the economic stimulus package that was passed on February 6th. However, Bush completely opposed any extensions and as a result the revised senate bill fell one
vote short on February 5th. Pelosi (D-CA.) refused to continue the fight and called for a vote on the original house bill, and that is what was passed the following day.
Currently, the senate bill (no.2544) and the house bill (no.4934) are still on the floor. These bills are the only chance for immediate extensions of benefits. Unfortuneately,
Bush could care less and the rest of the republicans would rather concentrate on important issues like weather Roger Clemens took steroids or not. Everyone needs to write, e-mail or call their senators and representatives to let them
know that we need action taken on these unemployment bills
NOW! We will receive some response on the extensions if everyone can contact their reps as soon as possible. These
introduced bills are sitting there waiting for action if we can all voice our opinion on the urgency of the situation.
I live in Michigan with the highest unemployment rate in the country. I lost my job after 28 years with the same company when they decided to leave the state. Beleive me,
it doesn’t get any worse than Michigan right now. There is no work and the 6,000 of us that were laid off from my company ran out of unemployment in mid January. I feel everyones pain and can’t stress enough how important it is to let our voices be heard so we can get the help we need.
I am following the legislation on a daily basis and will
update any developments on this site. Good luck to all!

Thank you for the up-date, we appreciate it- I am on my last week of unemployment….I don’t think New Jersey is any better. There are no jobs and if you do find one you can’t live on the pay.

  • Anonymous 03/02/2008 1:17pm

I BELIEVE WISCONSION HAS DECIDED ON A 13 WEEK EXTENSION. IT WOULD BE NICE IF THE REST OF THE STATES THAT HAVE OVER 7 % UNEMPLOYMENT WOULD DO THE SAME.

  • Anonymous 03/02/2008 3:15pm

On the website for Wisconsin, the governor also stated. The Feds have $4,3 billion pool of money ready for the states to sue to extend jobless benefits, but Congress has not yet acted to release the money. UNBELIEVABLE. He is also pressing is delegation to move to provide a federal extension. MAYBE WE ALL SHOULD MOVE TO WISCONSIN, HE SEEMS TO CARE ABOUT HIS PEOPLE.

  • Anonymous 03/02/2008 3:18pm

Forget the above article I think it is from 2002 with the $4.3 billion in funds

  • loida79 03/03/2008 4:44am

PLEASE CONTACT THE SPONSOR OF THIS BILL TODAY !! IF WE ALL REACH OUT THEN WE HAVE A BETTER CHANCE

  • Anonymous 03/03/2008 6:02am

What are we waiting for, Bill 2544 is still sitting there and no movement. I have 2 more checks coming then what? I cannot find a job with 173 resumes sent and know I am looking to move to another state. The checks coming in May will be to late I will be living in my car. Can you deliver to my Car? Please look on open congress.com and see how many people are in despair. I wonder what the legislators would do if we laid them off and there checks were about to run out.

I think that is irritating as it is Pelosi wanted the whole package approved Bush stated he would not approve the whole bill…So she got the approval for what she could, I believe that she will go after the rest of the package now that bush has agreed to part of it….

It would have made more sense to extend the benefits and the food stamp program since being on unemployment helps to qualify one for food stamps….Now if we could get more than 10.00 a month.

Write to the white house I did when Clinton was president I got a response as did my son when he was 8 and wrote to
    President Clinton….

    HERE’S A FUNNY ONE FOR YA….

It’s funny how he thinks he can come into office and destroy the foundation laid out before him….Perhaps Clinton was a bit loose with his morals, but he did leave office with a surplus of assets….Bush on the other hand has racked up over 3 trillion dollars in debt. We very well probably need to get Hilary into office , after all people said she was running the Country before.
When they vacated the office all hell broke loose…Good going George….

President Bush remains committed to fiscal discipline and balancing the budget by 2012. The President’s commitment to keeping taxes low and spending in check is helping us reach our goal of a balanced budget – the deficit in 2007 was 1.2 percent of GDP, which is lower than the average of the last 40 years.

Please pass extension for unemployment benefits. I have been unemployed since 7/07, in the title company industry for 30 years. I have been unable to find a job, went back to school, which was like pulling teeth to get EDD to approve that. Looked for a job all summer, no luck, applied over 100 jobs, very few interviews, very disappointing. Never been unemployed before, not a good feeling. Taking medical courses to change careers, Good luck to you all.
