if access is the only issue, why do they need also to allow unrestricted charging by the drug companies? the bill has a reasonable provision to encourage gratis provision of drugs in that it protects the companies from tort liability. when is it enough? There’s an article in Forbes by George Diamond, M. D. (October 13, 2008) called " Pay for Proof." Well, why should we pay except when there is proof? And don’t believe that we all won’t be paying for drugs provided under bills such as this; there will be huge political pressure to pay for “compassionately” available drugs, even those that have a snowball’s chance in heck of working. there is at least one untraconservative group behind this bill, the Competitive Enterprise Institute. Maybe we’ll see if they are more interested in people or money.

In the balance it seems like there’s more good that may come out of this than bad.
