This bill groups together 36 completely different legislative proposals. What if your Senator strongly opposes most of these proposals, but votes for the whole package because he feels one specific proposal simply must be passed? If many Senators feel this way then than we end up with a lot of laws and programs that could not have passed on their own merits.

Please send Congress a message asking them to pass DownsizeDC.org’s “One Subject at a Time Act.”

Passage of this bill is a critical step toward sustainable use of marine resources and sustainable development of the coastal zone.

Wrong. Passage of the one contained bill that addresses that issue might be critical to that issue. But there are 35 other bills in here that are completely unrelated. Have you reviewed all 35 in detail to confirm that you also want them to pass? I doubt it. If you did, yo umay find some that you want to not pass even more than you want yours to pass.

The problem is that one senator has the power to arbitrarily block any bills that they don’t like, forcing other senators to play stupid games like this. Lumping a bunch a unrelated bills together, however, and railroading them all through as one package is not a solution to the problem. That’s just were bad laws come from.

The solution is to take away Senator Coburn’s ( and every other senator’s ) ability to obstruct the process like this, so that each bill can be appropriately debated and pass or fail on it’s own merits.

This is another perfect example of too many pieces of legislation in one bill. Some of the bills are good, but should not be lumped together with ones that are’nt. This is why you should call your rep’s and ask them to pass DownsizeDC.org’s “One Subject at a Time Act.” Then while your on Downsize DC’s site, read the other acts and help us restore honesty and integrity back to Washington by signing the “The Enumerated Power’s Act.”

One item should be one bill, not a shopping list.

Why can’t we separate domestic farm bills from foreign aid?

I think there is to many underhanded thing that politicians pull on each other because of some not voting the way they want. They take a pile of worthless bills that wouldn’t have a chance of passing and put the good bills on top so if you don’t vote on the whole package the good ones won’t make it either. It is dirty politics. They do the same thing with spending bills and dump the pork to them.
