Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,CommentsClose CommentsPermalink
This Act may be cited as the `Family Leave Act'.CommentsClose CommentsPermalink
(1) by striking `An employee' and inserting `(1) Except as provided in paragraph (2), an employee'; andCommentsClose CommentsPermalink
(2) by adding at the end the following:CommentsClose CommentsPermalink
`(2) SPECIAL RULES FOR MATERNITY LEAVE-CommentsClose CommentsPermalink
`(A) IN GENERAL- Leave granted under subsection (a)(1)(A) shall consist of paid leave for an eligible employee who gives birth of at least 8 contiguous workweeks following the birth to assist in her recovery.CommentsClose CommentsPermalink
`(B) FATHERS- Leave granted under subsection (a)(1)(A) because of the birth of a child shall consist of paid leave of at least 5 days for an eligible employee who is the child's father.CommentsClose CommentsPermalink
`(3) SPECIAL RULES FOR ADOPTERS' LEAVE- Leave granted under subsection (a)(1)(B) because of the placement of a child with an eligible employee for adoption shall consist of paid leave of at least 5 days.'.CommentsClose CommentsPermalink
`(f) Responsible Parenting Leave-CommentsClose CommentsPermalink
`(1) IN GENERAL- In addition to any leave provided under subsection (a), an employee shall be entitled to a total of 8 hours paid leave, which may be taken intermittently during any 12-month period, to accompany the employee's child to--CommentsClose CommentsPermalink
`(A) a medical or dental appointment;CommentsClose CommentsPermalink
`(B) an appointment with a teacher or other official of an elementary or secondary school; orCommentsClose CommentsPermalink
`(C) a school function.CommentsClose CommentsPermalink
`(2) MULTIPLE CHILDREN- Paragraph (1) applies separately to each child of an employee.'.CommentsClose CommentsPermalink
