Dear Senators, Please pass Senate Bill S.961 before the last remaining Merchant Mariners of World WarII die.
Minnesota veterans are working to urge Senator Amy Klobuchar to become a co-sponsor on this bill also. No new co-sponsors have signed on since December 2007.
Here's a challenge for the U.S. Senate: Pass this bill and get the president to sign it into law before National Maritime Day 2008 (May 22). The House companion bill (HR 23) was passed in July 2007.
Established in 1933, this year will be the 75th National Maritime Day.
Let's make it special by recognizing the WWII Merchant Mariners that are still with us, as they put a wreath on the waters in recognition of the many Mariners lost at sea in times of war.

WILL SENATE BILL S961 COME TO A VOTE AND BE PASSED BEFORE THE LAST WWII MERCHANT MARINER IS GONE?
CAST TOUR VOTE, YES OR NO.
Why is it so hard to get this passed. These are old folks that put their lives on the line for our country why isn't every senator on this? What's the problem??? How do you get attention to such matters?
"support our troops" is simply a meaningless phrase unless we pay this debt to the Merchant Mariners of WWII. What a message to our current troops when we say to the VA Committee members: Please do what is right for this aging population of servicemen and their spouses. Marilyn Brissett-Kruger
