7/11/2008--Passed Senate amended. Designates August 2008 as Digital Television Transition Awareness Month to increase public awareness and encourage consumers to learn about the steps they need to take to retain their television service, including possibly participating in the government coupon program for obtaining converter boxes. Encourages consumers to make the transition well before the conversion date (February 17, 2009). Encourages local nonprofit organizations to assist households in applying for the coupons and installing converter boxes and to educate consumers about websites and other sources of transition information.
