Whatever it is, we are just going to have to find a way to live with it it seems.

Been Reading a lot of the comments here and had to add another one. there seem to be 2 kinds: Self-important name-callers who likely haven’t read any part of the bill. those who are read it and are either hopeful and looking forward to a government handout, or oppose the bill because it has no basic value.
I looked-up the bill and read through most of the content. I have entirely lost faith with every one of out public representatives. Screaming emergency and including ridiculously inappropriate pork as 90% of the named content. No-one has a real cause-and effect plan. Only those who see an opportunity to exercise their greed.
It is devastatingly disappointing: both their ignorance and their greed.

So you too see we are screwed right now. I have to disagree with the part about a handout partially, because many people lost their job because of no fault of their own, and now have little hope of finding a new job. What are they supposed to do, after working all their lives and paying taxes, and now their only prospect is to be homeless?

  • Patriots 02/07/2009 4:32pm

So here we are America. What the hell are we going to do?

I watched a move today called “Windtalkers”.

It really made me think about what our forefathers went through so we could be here now dealing with this.

It’s worth watching. I can only imagine what they would say about us if they were still here now.

My wife and I wanted to drop you a short note to tell you how pleased we
are with the great strides you are making in your recovery. In our fine
country’s spirit of understanding and forgiveness, we want you to know
there is a non partisan consensus of compassion and forgiveness
throughout. My wife Cindy and I want you to know that no grudge is borne
against you for shooting President Reagan. We, above all, are aware of
how the mental stress and pain could have driven you to such an act of
desperation. We are confident that you will soon make a complete
recovery and return to your family to join the world again as a healthy
    and productive young man.

    Best Wishes,

    John and Cindy McCain

PS: While you have been incarcerated, Barack Obama has been banging
Jodie Foster like a screen door in a tornado. You might want to look

Stimulus bill far from perfect, Obama says

    Unemployment
    •House — No similar provision.
•Senate — $4.7 billion to exclude from taxation the first $2,400 a person receives in unemployment compensation benefits in 2009.

Which means we will be paying taxes on UI for the year 2008

Congress is acting like no one was UI in 2008….were is the Help (exclude from taxation the first $2,400) for people who have been UI in 2008 ..I don’t have the $$$ for taxes ..
I’m going to write IRS a letter and say "When I get back to work ..I will pay my taxes then

My wife sat down on the couch next to me as I was flipping channels. She
    asked, ’What’s on TV?’

    I said, ‘Dust.’

    And then the fight started…

    -——— -——— -——— -——— -——— -——— -

My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept
staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby
    table.

My wife asked, ‘Do you know her?’

‘Yes,’ I sighed, ’She’s my old girlfriend. I understand she took to
drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she
    hasn’t been sober since.’

‘My God!’ says my wife, ‘who would think a person could go on celebrating
    that long?’

    And then the fight started…
    -————- -——— -——— -——— -——— -——— -———
    -——— -

I took my wife to a restaurant. The waiter, for some reason, took my order
    first.

“I’ll have the strip steak, medium rare, please.”

He said, “Aren’t you worried about the mad cow?”"

Nah, she can order for herself."

    And then the fight started…
    -————- -——— -——— -
A woman is standing nude, looking in the bedroom mirror.
She is not happy with what she sees and says to her husband,
‘I feel horrible; I look old, fat and ugly.
I really need you to pay me a compliment.’

The husband replies, ‘Your eyesight’s dang near perfect.’

    And then the fight started…..
    -————- -——— -——— -—-
I tried to talk my wife into buying a case of Miller Light for $14.95.

Instead, she bought a jar of cold cream for $7.95.

I told her the beer would make her look better at night than the cold
    cream.

    And then the fight started….
    -————- -——— -——— -——— -
My wife asked me if a certain dress made her butt look big. I told her not
as much as the dress she wore yesterday and then the fight started…..
    -————- -——— -——— -——— -—-
A man and a woman were asleep like two innocent babies.

Suddenly, at 3 o’clock in the morning, a loud noise came from outside.

The woman, bewildered, jumped up from the bed and yelled at the man ‘Holy
crap. That must be my husband!’

So the man jumped out of the bed; scared and naked jumped out the window.
He smashed himself on the ground, ran through a thorn bush and to his car
as fast as he could go.

A few minutes later he returned and went up to the bedroom and screamed at
the woman, ‘I AM your husband!’

The woman yelled back, ‘Yeah, then why were you running?’

    And then the fight started…..
    -————- -——— -——— -——— -——— --
I asked my wife, "Where do you want to go for our anniversary? "

It warmed my heart to see her face melt in sweet appreciation. “Somewhere
I haven’t been in a long time!” she said..

So I suggested, “How about the kitchen?”

And that’s when the fight started….
    -————- -——— -——— -——— -——— --
My wife and I are watching Who Wants To Be A Millionaire while we were in
bed. I turned to her and said, “Do you want to have sex?”

    “No,” she answered.

I then said, “Is that your final answer?”

She didn’t even look at me this time, simply saying “Yes.”

So I said, “Then I’d like to phone a friend.”

And that’s when the fight started….

Mr. Worthless, Vader and the Republicans destroyed our economy through their lies with 8 years of vindictive corruption, greed, deceit and special interest self preservation. While 11.6 million American lives now find themselves unemployed and relegated to poverty with not much hope of being returned to whole anytime soon. Meanwhile, there remains no accountability for ALL those who are directly responsible for the 60% losses and current state of our economy. Instead they are rewarded with staying in business, remain extremely over paid and employed while receiving ridiculous “merit retention bonuses” with our money and government bail out funds. I believe until we expose this secret society membership of evil people, we the people will remain expendable surplus and servants of our rich corporate masters. Is this a debate or obstruction in the Senate? Secret Societies in action!…………

  • Anonymous 02/09/2009 8:05am

The only extension will be the number of homeless and welfare statistics with over 3.6 million long-term unemployed Americans drop kicked recipients for any extended UE benefits.

  • Anonymous 02/09/2009 10:56am

I am totally disenfranchised. This Bill is not very good and Obama is staking everything on it. People voted for the Democrats but they are proving just as tone deaf as the Republicans. And to all the people who think the Repukes are actually right and not just playing politics, doing nothing and spending nothing except for defense got us here. Tax cuts do nothing when people have no money! But everything that would have actually helped people has been stripped from this Bill by them. And when it doesn’t work they will say see told you so. And the stupid American Public will say yes and vote them back in. People should have a long memory and remember what the Republicans did to this country. And if you think they are looking out for you here are some facts. They vote against and don’t believe in a minimum wage and believe in no manufacturing base in this country. And now have you believing your states and you deserve none of your tax money so they can waste some more of it on the bankers and fat cats. Wake up people before it’s too late! Some of these comments are beyond laughable. Do any of you people not come from the deep South or something? Give me a break you are so stupid it is actually hard to believe. News flash free markets died in Sept 2008 and Bush and the Republicans did it.

I don’t know what planet Republicans are from!?! What in heck are they thinking! Tax cuts aren’t going to do diddly squat if a person has no job. We need jobs created!!!! The construction and manufacturing industries need to be revived. Bring back our manufacturing and customer service jobs to the USA! I was unemployed for almost a year. When tax time comes I have to pay taxes on my unemployment wages. I pray daily that the company I work for gets more work so I can continue to work…but with all the layoffs, people are not building, there is no new creating, it looks very bleak out there..

I do not believe in a minimum wage, either. If you perform a job that only provides your employer with $2.00 an hour worth of value, your employer should not have to pay you $7.00/hour just because you can do it and keep breathing at the same time. The end result is that the consumers end up paying more for a product than it is truly worth. Raising the minimum wage is just a near-sighted government scheme to raise more income and payroll tax revenue without advocating the politically risky position of raising tax rates.

Well that is a great future where nobody has any money and we are all paid a dollar an hour. I’m glad you don’t believe in the minimum wage. You might be glad they have one if you lose your job in this economy. What a crock. Pay someone $2 an hour. That would work out great. LOL!!!!!

Did you ever think that maybe… just maybe the minimum wage is raised to help the general public afford to live. Maybe it would be alright to make $2.00 an hour if the cost of milk was ten cents. But no, the cost of milk in some places in $4.00 a gallon. So under your scenario, I would need to work two hours just to buy a gallon of milk. You are ridiculous! Please do the world a favor and keep your idiocy to yourself!

Take even a basic Economics course or, heck, just google a few topics with “minimum wage” and “economics” and even someone of your limited capacity should be able to discern exactly WHY minimum wage is a bad, ineffective, INFLATIONARY move.

Watch the pattern: minimum wage is instituted, the price index goes up, minimum wage rises to “help the general public afford to live,” the price index goes up, minimum wages rises again to, durrrr, “help the general public afford to live,” and – surprise – the price index goes up yet again!

If you can ever be talked out of your dogma you’ll need to start learning independently and applying theories and mechanics to what you see going on around you. Try not to listen to the media for it’s emotional content, listen instead for factual data. This will help start you out. It’s all about baby steps!

Anyone want to tell me how our government is justified in spending $600,000,000 on “energy efficient federal motor vehicle procurement”?

Maybe it’s just me, but that whole scheme sounds a little asinine.

Can we see some of the things the Republicans voted for in wasteful spending under Bush? They have no right to claim the argument when they ran up the debt. And be glad to do it again if it was for programs they believed in. But since they clouded everything in secrecy you Joe Q Public had no idea what they were spending money.

Now that Obama has brought back some level of transparancy back, then you get to sit on the sidelines and nitpick, never realizing that was another benefit of Obama being elected. He lets you know how taxpayer money is being spent. More than can be said for the other guys, who again ran up this debt. There is just no getting around that elephant in the room.

    LOOK CLOSER AT HR 1

“Ruin Your Health With the Obama Stimulus Plan”

“Senators should read these provisions and vote against them because they are dangerous to your health. (Page numbers refer to H.R. 1 EH, pdf version).

The bill’s health rules will affect “every individual in the United States” (445, 454, 479). Your medical treatments will be tracked electronically by a federal system. Having electronic medical records at your fingertips, easily transferred to a hospital, is beneficial. It will help avoid duplicate tests and errors.

But the bill goes further. One new bureaucracy, the National Coordinator of Health Information Technology, will monitor treatments to make sure your doctor is doing what the federal government deems appropriate and cost effective. The goal is to reduce costs and “guide” your doctor’s decisions (442, 446). These provisions in the stimulus bill are virtually identical to what Daschle prescribed in his 2008 book, “Critical: What We Can Do About the Health-Care Crisis.” According to Daschle, doctors have to give up autonomy and “learn to operate less like solo practitioners.”

Keeping doctors informed of the newest medical findings is important, but enforcing uniformity goes too far.

I voted for HR1 in OpenCongress because I think it’s better than not doing anything. Bush sent money to places that shouldn’t need it … banks, wall street, etc., with no strings attached. At least this is directed and has oversight.

Rush Limbaugh believes Obama should fail? He should put up or shut up. And when I say put up, I mean run for office. At least you can ATTEMPT to make a difference there. Unfortunately, all he seems to know how to do is flap his fat jowls.

  • Anonymous 02/10/2009 1:30am

How is it then that Rush L’s Formula is slowly evolving in this Bill? Please fee free to correct me if i’ve misinterpreted this.
