no more spending, no more government intervention, stay out of our lives
Yes, or a line item veto.
We need a constitutional ammendment: ONE ISSUE PER BILL
Boy, this is what I love about our government. Put two things that have no relation to each other in the same bill so one thing can coattail the other. Vote no on this bill!
did opencongress make an error inputting this into their site? Whats with all the crap in this bill that’s totally unrelated to smoking?
For those of you interested the bill can be viewed with amendments here: http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=h111-1256
Yes, it still contains a bunch of non-smoking related crap in it.
“(A) SPECIAL RULE FOR CIGARETTES- Beginning 3 months after the date of enactment of the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act, a cigarette or any of its component parts (including the tobacco, filter, or paper) shall not contain, as a constituent (including a smoke constituent) or additive, an artificial or natural flavor (other than tobacco or menthol) or an herb or spice, including strawberry, grape, orange, clove, cinnamon, pineapple, vanilla, coconut, licorice, cocoa, chocolate, cherry, or coffee, that is a characterizing flavor of the tobacco product or tobacco smoke.”
That did not need to be in the bill. Why is this only limited to cigarettes? So people will now have to smoke their flavored tobacco as hand rolled cigarettes, cigars or in pipes. How many kids actually smoke flavor cigarettes? The kids I see smoking are typically smoking normal cigarettes or menthols, but menthol was not excluded.
This is just the beginning. Once this door is opened, you will see anything the govt wants regulated to further control the people, I.E. soda, meat, salt, etc… Reminds me of New Angeles from the movie Demolition Man…
altria(phillip morris) co-authored the bill. it bans additives like cloves but not menthol. Interesting article about this bill:

When the gov’t regulates the amount of nicotine that they put in cigarettes, the more people will smoke. Another unseen gain for the taxman.
Being regulated under the misunderstood and abused commerce clause.
