If you get a loan, you pay it back, loan forgiveness is why we are in such an economic crisis in the first place
This is welfare at its finest…..then we will forgive debt for doctors (after all they do keep us alive right?). You borrow it – you pay it back….it is called accountability folks.
Whereas I cannot argue against responsibility and paying back loans, I think teachers should be able to take advantage of a pre-established financial opportunity. This bill does not introduce anything new, it only changes the parameters to ensure that deserving teachers are eligible for forgiveness. Most teachers end up with 5-10 years of education because we need to increase our pay capability. Unfortunately, college is the best way to do this. Teachers generally only get meager raises for years of experience, and (hopefully) a greater increase for graduate hours. This year, I get a $300 raise after 7 years of teaching experience.
In fact, in one of the teaching areas, special education, some programs require an additional year of classes (and payments). This is designed to promote high-quality teachers in low-interest areas. I believe many more individuals with a passion for reaching children and teens would teach if the financial incentive were more.
One must take responsibility for ther debts, NOT the taxpayers!
