Hey, what can I say? My mom blew herself away when I was three, and there were two others aged 1 and 5. She had been a happy, motivated, and intelligent lady until things went screwy. I think 3 other lives plus my father’s would have been much better. I believe it was post-partem D; of course back in those days such problems were hush hush and embarrassing.
This HR ia going through the House for a second time. It is a “pharma push” bill designed to sell more SSRI antidepressants and push them on pregnant women (risking birth defects and other neonatal complications, as well as suicide/homicide. Ditto on women who have recently had their babies.) Google SSRI stories on the WEB and read the list of women on SSRIs who have killed themselves or their children. Vote NO.
Every man/woman who can vote should be made to take this crazy class drug, that are called anti-depressants, to get the real scoop on what it does to the mind and body, before passing a bill that will do much harm.
www.uniteforlife.com, and www.cchr.org tell the truth. I’ve been there done that, and thank God healed from the drugs, I never was, that dang depressed. It’s an ECONOMIC bill, more money for Big Pharma. Stop the madness, now.
These comments are ridiculous. There is absolutely NOTHING in this bill about drugging mothers, forcing screening..why do you misrepresent the facts of this lifesaving bill? READ IT!!! Anyone who has, knows these assertions are shameless, misleading falsehoods….This bill will pass this year… and save so many lives. It’s about education, research and public awareness. You can sign on to support this legislation by going to the Depression and Bipolar Alliance website and signing the online petition which has already generated over 22,000 signatures. America’s mothers need and want this bill!
My daughter’s doctor put her on Zoloft without even a physical exam, just her husband’s query about her being upset about the baby crying so much. If the mental health “experts” would honestly research, I wouldn’t object, but I fear the established authorities only follow the pharma line, rarely looking at simpler solutions which don’t create any sales for anyone. If you look at the recent scandals connected with the pharmaceutical companies tests and the FDA, these “assertions” are not shameless and misleading.
I’m pregnant right now and had a screening test given me. It’s impossible to answer the questions and not get a psychiatric diagnosis. There’s NO right or wrong answer. It’s just a scam to get more people on psychiatric drugs. It’s a total scam. The only ones who benefit from this are drug pushers.
Looks at stats and you’ll see that more people KILL themselves because they are on psychiatric drugs — look at the most heinous school shooting and see that those kids were all on psychiatric drugs.
So… vote NO on this and get everyone you know to vote NO too.
Suicide rates go up with anti-depressants. The Mother’s Act is designed by and for pharmaceutical companies, at the expense of mothers and their babies. This is a controversial bill, which only guarantees the transfer of billions of dollars from taxpayers to a small number of corporations that employ a large number of lobbyists.
That is sad. Can you point to the specific portions of the bill (for those who are skimming comments like myself) that state where the money would go or how it would be spent?
I love what this bill claims to be trying to do, but its money and research that should be done by disinterested parties like universities and NOT Big Pharma.
We need to get the research out of big business hands and back into the real research community. We have relied on these foxes far too long to gaurd our hen houses.
No there’s “nothing” in the bill about drugging mothers, it just that happens to be the natural consequence of any mental health screening program – don’t you get it?? This is a big-time pharma push – really the biggest one yet – and a dangerous, dangerous bill which poses a dire threat to society. Psychiatrists do NOT have the answers; it is their treatments which are CAUSING the problems. Yet lawmakers continue to regard these individuals as experts who know what they’re doing – gawd help us all! This bill must die.
We should be doing something to decrease the drugging of America. I have a son in his 20’s and so many of the girls he has started to date are on multiple psychiatric drugs (to say nothing of what street drugs they may be using)- and it just makes them crazier. If we do anything that gives new mothers psychiatric drugs, those drugs will end up in the babies they nurse, and no one has done any tests to prove that these psychiatric drugs won’t be detrimental to these children. Little bodies are going to be less able to handle the toxic side effects than adult bodies.
This is not about helping mothers but more about getting them on drugs. Jail those drug pushers and their minions!!! And feed them their own drugs!!! Do we want to make this a country of drugged zombies? Healthy food, less TV, more exercise, alkaline water, etc. will do way more for mothers than any drug but of course it doesn’t make any money for anybody. Get rid of those drug pushers!!!
Where does the Constitution authorize this?
It does not! The tyranists in our buildings suggest that…
“Pursuant to clause 3(d)(1) of rule XIII of the Rules of the House of Representatives, the Committee finds that the Constitutional authority for this legislation is provided in the provisions of Article I, section 8, clause 1 that relate to expending funds to provide for the general welfare of the United States.”
I can’t believe some of you claim to have read this bill . NO where does it push drugs it doesn’t even fund medication. This Bill could provide resources to women who otherwise may not have access to these services. This Bill could save lives and raise awareness I can’t believe all the misinformtion being swallowed up ! How do you not ask yourselves what the agenda is of these sites spreading so much mis information ? Scientologists come to mind..This bill is NOT about pushing pharmasuticals and anyone who believes that could not have read the entire bill.
I have read this bill. It funds research to test possible treatments, and funds to help implement these treatments. It lists medication as a possible treatment. Therefore it funds medication. A=B, B=C, A=C. Since the bill says that the exact cause is unknown, and effective treatments are still being researched, I would like to know exactly what the funds set aside to educate the public will inform me of? “We know nothing”? No, the advertising campaigns will say if you have these symptoms, see a mental health professional. And what will that mental health professional do? Prescribe medication. That is just the way it works. I want to know what will happen if someone says no to the treatment prescribed? Will their child be taken away? This bill opens a can of worms we will regret opening.
More prescription drug lobbying at its best.
Another waste of money
The government already has too much intrusion in our lives. It has abused it’s authority, mis-managed most DHHS programs, (just read some GAO reports on DHHS and the OVW), and has set up systems that have turned our children into currency. These bills start out with great intentions and are then washed through the sewer of DHHS and the OVW. It’s a nightmare, does anyone in Congress read the GAO reports?!
Very strange that the upcoming HHS Secretary is none other than Kathleen Sibelius, governor of Kansas, whose biggest political ally and financial backer is late-term abortionist George Tiller. Creeps me out.
New mothers already have a slew of services offered them everywhere. They don’t need nosy federal health questionnaires that will determine when / whether they can go home with their new babies. This already happens with state & local CPS workers asking the questions. Another layer of intrusion making new moms feel inadequate before they even leave the hospital.
SAVE YOURSELF, SAVE YOUR BABY & YOUR MENTAL HEALTH: FIND A MIDWIFE & GIVE BIRTH FAR MORE SAFELY AT HOME. (proven statistically for over 30 years)
This “BILL” is just another usurpation of our liberties. 1) This BILL is would force WOMEN to respond to non medical questions that could lead to her loss of parental rights. Parental rights are PREEXISTING NATURAL RIGHTS! 2) Any law must be EQUAL and since the slaves were emancipated and women are now equal this violates yet another PREEXISTING NATURAL RIGHT! 3) Look at how well the BILLS father is doing with HR 4.5. and get an idea of his understanding of the CONSTITUTION! 4)Sorry but this is not a COMMUNIST COUNTRY, so this is a SOCIAL program and beyond that at most this would be a STATES’ RIGHT or a PEOPLES’ RIGHT not a FEDERAL GRANT. Sorry my taxes will not go to this!
You do not and should not try to regulate everything!!!!!!Doctors already know about postpartum depression! There is literature by the ton about it now for those who are interested in finding out about it. Those who aren’t, are not going to get help no matter what you do. Are you going to require that they be locked up? Who’s going to pay for that and watch after the children of these women? You are not the Father’s of our Country and you’re not protecting your children. Keep your fingers out of people’s personal lives, we might just start looking into yours. You are being to invasive. WHEN ARE THE CONGRESSIONAL AND SENATE ELECTIONS AGAIN?
I’m sorry, but as much as this may or may not be an issue, it is not the place of the Federal Government to fund research unless we’re talking National Defense applications. This is a potential waste of my tax dollars by a Congress that has already grossly overspent the money it takes in on a bunch of other things it has no business spending my tax dollars on. If the people of a state want their state government to study post-partum depression then they vote for that at a state level; it’s what the Founders wanted us to do. But the Federal Gov. was to take no part in that kind of thing.
Too expensive. Stupid idea. More government money funded into psychaitry, psychology and drug companies. No wonder so many damned republicans support it. That’s where you jerks get all your campaign money. Please…NEXT!!!
