this will be an excuse for the gov’t to say: “see we’re rebuilding schools and highways. we’re creating jobs!”
i’d rather have money for teachers & quality books than nice looking buildings.
How about encouraging private schools? The Governments public school system has been proven a failure. Start a voucher system and let private schools take care of their own facilities. The public school system is Socialism at its finest. If schools lose students and money when they fail to educate children, they improve. This is Democracy, and Capitalism.
My state and local taxes already pay for schools. Now the congress is adding another $1000. per family tax for schools over the next five years for something that is clearly not within the allocated powers of the federal government.
Democrats are incredible… They vote for the money for the war but they vote against money for SCHOOLS.
Way to go democrats.
More Pork for the Eco-Industrial Complex.
You’re all missing the point. Green schools help children perform better. There have been tons of studies showing that the average IQ of the children attending green school is higher than that of a non-green school. It’s not about fancy looking school, it’s about schools with better indoor air quality. Not to mention the test scores of children who are in a school using primarily natural light are higher than those of children going to school using primarily fluorescent light or incandescent light.
Plus, you’ll find green schools (while there is an initially higher investment) save an average of $100,000/year because of the reduced energy and water costs.
