How about a Dept of the marine Corp and a Dept of the navy. Just seperate them so you can add more meaningless civilian govt jobs.

lol, the department of the navy (and thus the marine corps) is the only branch of the military authorized (by the Constitution) to stay in continuous operation. They keep the army and airforce in continuous operation by piling the appropriations of them all in one bill.

We’re not like the Air Force who wanted a complete removal from the Army. We want to preserve the 234 years of teamwork and dedication to duty that is symbolized in the Navy/Marine Corps Team. We are only looking for equal billing, thats all. No separate budget, no separate secretary, none of this. We only want us to be known as the Department of the Navy and Marine Corps.

There are about 100,000 things that should have priority over this bill. What a trivial bill. Who cares what the Department is called? The Marines are awesome and everyone already knows it.

But when your son or daughter an awesome Marine dies in combat. The family get a letter from the Navy telling them how much they appreciated their service. Nowhere on the letter is the Marine Corps represented. While it may mean nothing to you, to us it matters and should have been corrected years ago.

It’s not a matter of a “correction” The Marine CORP has always been part of the NAVY. The fact that many are unaware is not even relavent. The family of the Marine is aware. Stop waisting time and money and get on with the important matters.

I agree with duckwaltz. With the CBO claiming that this is going to cost about $500,000, just to change a name, I’m not sure that we should be pursuing this. Granted, it’s a drop in the bucket compared to 13 trillion dollars, but do we really have nothing better to do that squabble about government vernacular? The Marines are part of the Navy. They all (even the Army and Air Force) serve the same folks. Don’t get me wrong, I am incredibly grateful for them, and support them whenever possible. However, should it really matter if you get a letter that says Marine Corps? The letter is sent on behalf of the American people. That’s what really matters.
