Global warming is a hoax and has evolved into a tax scheme where the government will use utilities as an extention of the IRS. This has absolutely nothing to do with the environment but has everything to do with control and manipulation of an uninformed naive population. This is a flat-out lie. This government has debased the currency and run up unsustainable debts so it is now looking for any way to confiscate individuals property and money. It is no more complicated than that.
Any state that generates power by other than wind, solar or geo thermal or neuclar is going to see their power bill go througt the roof !!! 500.00 a month + power bills for a small house won’t be unheard of when they get done. We may be green because the fat cats will be really rich with all that money from the government grants putting all that hot gas under ground !!1
There is no fear mongering here…..CAP & TRADE will impact an already fatigued economy in a devastating way..in the midwest they will be hit the hardest because of the age of their power plants..in the West where nucleur power is available the household expense will be closer to $800.00 annually…Have you seen the GE ads running every two minutes..they are gearing up to get rich from this and OBAMA has appointed Daschel to GE and is quite chummy with the CEO who by the way owns the Biased media stations…..Will cost America plenty and as far as global warming will not make a hill of beans difference..this is all about GREED and lining special interest Groups and lobbyist pockets…but Pelosi has also bought stock in windmills as well…..CORRUPTION
I also heard they are going to charge dairy farmers $175.00 per Cow because they pass gas "methane gas? from eating grass and it hurts the environment..there goes the price on milk and dairy products..the insanity going on in this administration is beyond belief..we are headed toward a wall going 150 miles per hour …will we survive??? I doubt it…they do not want to rebuild our nation ..they want to remake into something we do not recognize and do not want…..WE WANT AMERICA BACK
Stop passing along completely false rumours, and twisting the ear of America! Just because you “heard” it doesnt make it true. Small family farmers who support local economies are not to blame for the excess production of methane gas, it’s the big industries who breed billions of animals in filth, store their methane leeching waste improperly contaminating our water supply with things like E-coli and salmonella, and poison cows with antibiotics, which reduces our effective resistance to diseases like swine flu.
Your right we are headed for a wall, called Global Warming, and thanks to previous inaction on the part of the Congress, we Are headed for it at 150 miles an hour, but we can stop.. Renewable energy will rebuild our nation, into something we want, and something we will recognize; successful, independent and a genuine world leader.
there’s got to be an agreeable solution we all need without being such ridiculously and extreme limits, Or penalties.
The reasonable solution is to get the government OUT of the energy sector. Oil, coal, hydro, nuclear are by FAR the most efficient forms of energy production and these meddling idiots have been systematically dismantling our ability to FUNCTION as a people and a country. The global warming hoax is an income transfer program and a way for the bankrupt federal government to increase it’s control and tax revenue. This has absolutely nothing to do with the environment.

As an Independent / Libertarian, wait until 2010 and we’ll see what party rises to the top. You had one statement right, “sustainable living is the new order of the day.” Perhaps you should have said, “new world order”. American’s will soon take back our Country from those who seek to destroy it and create the “new world order”. Not by violent means, rather by throwing the Liberals/Progressives to the curb and all their country killing philosophies. Perhaps if you, CommonSense, had any, you would be more than a sheep being lead by wayward shepherds to the slaughter!
Do you know how much money the government(Bush and past) have paid in subsidies to keep the oil, coal, and nuclear industries alive? Hundreds of billions of U.S. Tax payer money. By the way Nuclear has 3 percent effiency and if we ever had a nuclear accident in the U.S. it would cost us over 400 billion dollars to clean it up, what a waste of money. The coal industry is cutting jobs faster than their cutting mountaintops off, we don’t need that. And the oil industry will continue to raise and lower prices as it sees fit to keep Americans hooked on Gas until there is none left. The government is Bankrupt because of these industries and the wars, the coal and oil industries would rather see us hooked on China’s life support system than let us walk freely. We don’t need coal, oil, hydro or nuclear what we need is wind, solar, waste biodiesel, geothermal and ocean current systems to inject new life into our economy, to make America the world leader we were born to be!
Extreme is the trillions of dollars in subsidies paid to polluting industries, and the hundreds of billions required to clean up a nuclear accident. Take away the subsidies and we have way more than enough to successfully pay for this bill.

exactly right you can’t keep doing the same thing hoping for a differnet outcome. screw the arabs and all the other oil producers we have to our own energy supplies. not the same ol thing filling the oil companies pockets. build a wind mill, buy a plug in car, use mass transist, do something, make a difference. we don’t want all those old jobs back, we want new 21st century ones that haven’t been invented yet.
I agree, but I think the 21st century ones have already been invented.
Coal is cheaper in the US because of its massive supply. Oil would be much cheaper if we allowed companies to actually drill our reserves. And we would have very few fossil fuel plants in the country if people would stop freaking out about having a nuclear plant in their area.
Side note: burning coal produces no radiation. Coal is not radioactive.
It is my understanding that one of Alaska’s largest reserves can be drilled without significant environmental impact. One would only need to drill within a short distance of where the oil pipeline runs. The reserve itself is a huge reserve spanning hundreds of square miles, but the edge of it runs close to the pipeline.
With adequate restrictions to ensure that by some loophole drilling doesn’t occur on a large scale over the entire reserve, I think permissible sites can be found nearest to the pipeline that mark a nice compromise.
That is only a temporary solution to a permenant problem. What happens when those reserves are tapped out? What then? We need clean renewable energy now not later. We need to stop prolonging the inevitable and make the push to green energy now!
Coal burning is the number one cause of alarming worldwide rise in mercury pollution of fish. Burning coal is a leading cause of smog, acid rain, global warming, and air toxics. Burning fossil fuels causes air pollution & accumulation of toxic wastes. Mother nature buried coal & oil for a reason-they are the fuels from hell. Wind & Solar energy is abundant and free from pollution and deadly toxins-they are the fuels from heaven.
You could make your point without making idiotic remarks.
Commom Sense, you sure don’t seem to have any and your name-calling is the hallmark of liberal bias. Get a clue; people are onto ObamaNation and are no longer buying into it’s false ideals. Create a crisis, then rush to install the solution only you can provide. Lousy, sloppy, strategy! And cpnpa, we are nowhere near China’s levels of polution and we’ve had much more industry for many more years as a developed nation. Suck a tale pipe: no one said exhaust was good; but we need proven alternatives first, the good ole’ American free enterprise way; then after the private sector spends the money & develops new products we’ll all rush out to get them, NOT BEFORE you prove you can do it better (think mouse trap)
This is way out of control.
It seems to me that the only people that support this bill, dont have a whole lot to say other then something bashing the GOP. The people who only look at party affiliation are the problem with this country, they vote for reps. and then the reps. vote for bills according to the way their party wants them too. Last time I checked we were all AMERICANS and should have the best interests of AMERICA in mind regardless of party affiliation. If we dont get back to being strictly AMERICANs this country is done for! P.S. Cap and Trade is just another way to tax the AMERICAN people, it may create green jobs, but the amount of jobs being “created” wont outnumber the amount of jobs lost due to the larger expense of cap and trade. Opportunity costs people, opportunity costs!! Basic economics.
While the points made both pro and con are interesting reading we need to remember that although it would probably create some new jobs there is also a down side to all of this.
While this may or may not create new jobs that is to create an increase in the over all number of jobs after taking into account the jobs (and it will cost jobs) that it causes us to lose do to the increased operating cost. Which will be caused in part by the new an increased Federal Taxes and regulations?
Then we have to look at the increases that we will see at the gas pump and let’s not forget the utility cost which will certainly go up for all of us.
Over all I will have to say we will loose if this bill is made into law.
There are no jobs and i’m to old to start over , with no car , so what the heck ! Unemployment is alot more than you are telling us . You are not counting the people that could not draw employment checks ! Small towns are hit the worst . I guess we will have to set up tents ! Get a bow and arrows so we can hunt for food and go back to the dark ages .
No jobs? I’m sitting here in a small town, looking through Friday’s paper for something my brother-in-law could do if he relocates down here, and (between the “make money from home” and “fast paced sales opportunity” scams) I see at least five jobs available that only require a HS diploma if even that. Since my company never bothers to put openings in the paper, I know there are more, too.
Does anyone out there actually belive the “polluters” are going to pay for this without the cost being passed on to the consumer? Is anyone really that nieve?
I personally believe that our businesses (GE) are pushing this and our lapdog politicians are capitalizing and trying with this tax to benefit from it also.
I also believe nowhere in the constitution does it state our Govt. is in the private or should outwardly support the private sector in a business.
Ben
Great point. Lost in all the arguments of whether this is a good idea or not is whether congress even has the authority to do it. Unfortunately that doesn’t matter any more. It doesn’t win votes to use the constitution. It works much better to pamper everyone and tell us what we can and can’t do. Eventually they will tell us who we can and can’t vote for.
Well said!!
