Look, get over the climate change debate. Look at the economics of it. The future is in renewable resources that come from the sky and sun, not underground fossils from ancient history.

Robert Kennedy, Jr., foreword from The Green Collar Economy by Van Jones:

“Today we don’t need to abolish carbon as an energy source in order to see its inefficiencies starkly or understand that the addiction to it is the principal drag on American capitalism. The evidence is before our eyes. The practice of borrowing a billion dollars each day to buy foreign oil has caused the American dollar to implode. More than a trillion dollars in annual subsidies to coal and oil producers has beggared a nation that four decades ago owned half the globe’s wealth. Carbon dependence has eroded our economic power, destroyed our moral authority, diminished our international influence and prestige, and damaged our health and landscapes. It is subverting everything we value.”

You are right.. we must fight for this bill with everything we have.

Don’t you realize the opposition is just creating doomsday estimates and throwing numbers out there created by big coal and big oil industries. I’m done with being at the mercy of the middle east.

Wow. Can’t believe that the climate change debate is happening on the boards of a good website like this. Climate change denial is a thing of the past, people. I mean I can present you with evidence even though I know none of you will read it. Geesh more fear mongering I see… It only appears like Russia is controlling the heat because in many European and Russian cities they have not updated their plumbing and mechanical systems. Some old cities still have a local coal plant that provides hot water heat to the whole city via a network of underground pipes. Those are very old systems and costly to replace. They did not have hot water heaters in the old days. Those are old existing systems and need updating… its not about controlling the people.

A Wall Street Journal blogger has an article on this bill – the benefits of the bill will far outweigh the costs.

Don’t worry; when we stop paying out over a trillion each year in oil and coal subsidies and put them into clean energy, you will pay very little for energy. Eventually you may make money off of energy you generate yourself with your own solar panels, when those become cheap and available, which you can then charge back to the smart electric grid. Trust me, you’re on the up, and the future is bright.

By the way, to everyone who is decrying energy price hikes and increased taxes: oil and coal are cheap is because of government subsidies. Move our investments to renewables and they will be cheap. And they will get much cheaper. Imagine having a series of solar panels on your roof that will actually generate money over time. We have the technology, we have the ability, let’s get to work!

The moral is, you’re going to pay for energy either way. Would you rather continue down a path from cheap to extremely expensive? Or a path from cheap to cheaper to virtually costless? Think about it.
