My bad. Change “dinosaur” to “prehistoric plants and algae”, and my statement still stands. Either way, it’s no longer a good idea.

After spending binge, White House says it will focus on deficits.
Democratic lobbyist Steve Elmendorf says the White House focus on deficit reduction could easily kill the cap-and-trade effort. “I think this means cap-and-trade has to go to the backburner,” he said.

Waxman-Pelosi no difference, neither of them care for the people, just want to line their own pockets. We need to vote these guys out!!!!

ANY kind of legislation to control health care and private insurance is a move toward absolute control of the people. TORT Reform NOW! This lousy administration has taken over the banks, AIG, auto companies and now they’re trying to get our health and energy (cost of) into their power-hungry hands. They wont stop until they have snatched every liberty away from us. VOTE OUT THIS CONGRESS IN 2010!

This bill would cost millions of jobs. I own a small business and I know what I’m talking about. How is paying twice as much for energy at my shop, paying twice as much for raw materials, paying twice as much for shipping, paying twice for groceries, travel, hotels, god, the list is endless! I will reduce the number of emploees immediately if this bill passes.

Although we need a way to encourage more eco-friendly business practices, cap and trade is not the way to go.

Are you kidding, have you even read the bill? They will create committees to oversee how food manufactures use energy and produce emissions. They will have to abide by new standards that will cost a lot of money that will be passed on to the consumer, same as gas will, same as car standards will, and energy standards will. Even home standards will change, imagine not being able to sell your home until you update the furnace and water heater in your home. It’s more than 45 dollars and besides we wouldn’t have to spend so much on gas if only the government would allow us to drill more in the U.S. We aren’t all about me me me, we just don’t want to go into a situation guns drawn without knowing everything that is going on, like the typical Liberal.

While the points made both pro and con are interesting reading we need to remember that although it would probably create some new jobs there is also a down side to all of this.
While this may or may not create new jobs that is to create an increase in the over all number of jobs after taking into account the jobs (and it will cost jobs) that it causes us to lose do to the increased operating cost. Which will be caused in part by the new an increased Federal Taxes and regulations?
Then we have to look at the increases that we will see at the gas pump and let’s not forget the utility cost which will certainly go up for all of us.
Over all I will have to say we will loose if this bill is made into law.

Most people in the world, given a choice, would prefer clean energy over “dirty” energy (even those of us who already know climate change is a scam). We don’t need any additional carrot or stick to choose clean over dirty. The problem is, there isn’t a choice yet! Other than nuclear (which Obama will not support), we have no alternatives that can take the place of Coal & Petroleum.
Go ahead and tax dirty energy to the moon, but FIRST make an equivalent clean alternative available (without affecting our food supply). If the government wants to solve the problem, they can invest in R&D until a viable alternative exists, then push a transition. Govt could make a deal with a private company to guarantee a 10-year exclusive if they make it happen. It is quite simple. This bill is about CONTROL, not about helping the planet.

This bill would not only add many dollars to our utility bills – not just for the rich, but for everyone, but it would destroy jobs in this country. Why would anyone pay cap and trade taxes here when they could go to China and not have those added taxes. Secondly, the science that is being used for these “global warming” stats has been proven to be false. Get a good “Discussion” with varied scientests – not just those that agree with Al Gore and prove with accurate data that the globe is actually warming. Plant a few trees – that will take care of the CO2!

jralomar15 07/25/2009 6:42pm

Any Rep who voted yes for this will be FIRED during the next election. Senators better wise up before their vote.

orestod 06/28/2009 12:37pm

carbon dioxide causes global warming? fiction. planet earth would freeze if there were no carbon dioxide. this is basic science.

the worst of this horrible bill is that it as agenda driven by those legislators wanting to trample our liberty and take our property. and that’s in addition to the bill being a big scam.

Sheila_W 06/29/2009 3:08pm

This bill is going to put some industries out of business or chase them overseas where there are not restrictions. We will have higher unemployment and higher taxes and higher costs for living. And, while we implementing this catastrophe, the planet will be warmed by the nuclear weapons coming out of Korea. Our great nation will be too poor to help any one in this world. That will be real change.

MinnesotaMama 05/28/2009 9:11am

Cap and Trade is a tax, and it’s a great big one. Even democrat Chairman Emeritus of Energy and Commerce Committee John Dingell says this. Everyone in Congress knows this is a tax on the American people.

Imposing such a tax during a recession is economic suicide.

I agree. We need a solution and many people who oppose this bill ignore this. We need to not only plant more trees but stop wiping them out by over-developing.
On the other hand, this bill is no solution. It is a proposal that will affect the average American with over-taxation. We can’t continue to sustain all of this spending! Doesn’t any Obama-supporter realize that? Where is their discernment?

You have got to have your head in the sand. Who else do you think is going to pay for any spending bill that is passed in congress? ME, ME, ME, that is why we are against most of them. The Obama administration has spent more money in the first 6 months than any other president. That is money that comes from me and you unless you are in the legislature. They have so many free perks that they do not pay taxes on that it makes no difference to them.
Ask any of them if they will be part of the new health care system or if they will continue to get free medical care for them and their families.

texascav 05/29/2009 1:40pm

Oh yes, just what we need another tax. This is one of the dumbest yet. What is our government trying to do, DESTROY us. This will increase the cost of everything we buy, use, and consume. And it won’t change global warming at all. What were all the predictions on the first Earth Day? Google it…. not one came true. If those predictions had come true we wouldn’t be here today. Come on people, wake up write your Congresmen and Senators, let them know that this is a bunch of bull. Oh yes, we need to tax cattle also ( methane gas).

rcmyer 11/20/2009 2:26pm

Global Warming is a Hoax! Information is spreading like a wildfire in the blogosphere regarding the University of East Anglia Climate Research Unit (CRU) hacked email files. If true, this astonishing information will uncover the scientific fraud that many have suspected.
See:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/8370282.stm

and
http://biased-bbc.blogspot.com/2009/11/hadley-hacked.html

Some excerpts from the second site:
“There’s an email from American climate scientist Tom Wigley advising Professor Jones how to manipulate some data to emphasise warming trends.”
“..another from Jones in which he tells a colleague that he’s used the same “trick” as Michael Mann (Mr Hockey Stick) “to hide the decline”, and in yet another he calls the reported death of a climate sceptic “cheering news”.

To be sure, more details will be revealed in the coming days, but if you ever needed a reason to doubt the global warming hoax this is it. Its time for Congress to wake up and kill these bills.

irf01 05/28/2009 5:42am

How many NON GREEN jobs will be lost if this bill is pasted? How much more will we pay in higher energy cost and taxes?

strokjl 06/25/2009 6:20pm

Besides the fact that certain individuals stand to gain unfairly with the passage of this bill and the issue that this bill does a terrible job at actually addressing ‘climate change’ as it’s defined; the bill will further drag down that economy with greater costs of doing business for industrial firms and energy costs for every American individual and company.

This is a truely irresponsible bill that makes me quesiton the goals my government has for this country. Things like this have been attempted before, always to the detriment of the American individual.

DCW 06/07/2009 6:39am

Global Warming is a crock. What part of coming out of an ice age don’t these idiots understand. Scientists have already proven the earth goes through a natural warming process as this happens.

n2ativ1 06/25/2009 1:23pm

This bill is just another scam to raise our taxes. In reality if passed the energy tax would:

Reduce aggregate gross domestic product (GDP) by $9.6 trillion
Destroy an average of 1-3 million jobs, every year
Raise electricity rates 90 percent after adjusting for inflation
Raise inflation-adjusted gasoline prices by 74 percent
Raise residential natural gas prices by 55 percent
Raise an average family’s annual energy bill by $1,500 annually
Increase the federal debt by 26 percent, which is $29,150 per person

quanez 05/30/2009 5:34am

Cut Spending!!!! We don’t need more taxes and bigger government. Wake up America…

burke524 06/06/2009 5:08am

Seems that all clear thinking people agree that this would only harm the Country. I was under the impression that WE were the country. Why are we letting this wacko decide what is not best for us? Hard to understand. I have said before that when over half of the people are on the dole the Country has reached a point of no return. It is here, I think..

Buying into this fallacy? Do your homework by viewing online some of the presentations by 80 prominent climate experts at the “2009 International Conference on Climate Change,” March 8-10, New York City (http://www.heartland.org/events/NewYork09/newyork09.html).

ksavage 08/25/2009 6:19am

I have a question. Weren’t “Bush-bashers” up until last year using the national deficit as one of their biggest arguments against George W. Bush? I believe they were…on almost every political show in the nation, every satirist “political” talk show, every news network, on and on throughout every part of the media. Everyday citizens started picking up on it too, and it was one of the most commonly-heard arguments against the Bush administration. So, that being true, HOW ON EARTH do the same liberal, weak-minded people ignore what Obama is doing to our national “budget”?! If national debt made Bush a bad president, Barack Obama is astronomically, exponentially, indisputably the WORST president this nation has ever had.

jmontes 06/27/2009 2:17am

Once the legislation acually begins to penetrate the economy working families and the poor will be hit the hardest by this cap and tax bill that would result in no significant change in global mean temperature.

Families will see electricity costs increase by roughly 90%, gasoline costs up 58%, natural gas costs up 55%

train 08/11/2009 6:06pm

This is a joke. Global warming is a scam. This is just another way for govt. to take more of our freedoms. Don’t tell me a can’t drive my SUV, or run my house thermostat at 74 degrees, or eat what I want. The libs are just trying to find new and fancy ways to tax more. “Please don’t tax me bro.”

Even if “climate change” were real, how is taxing the crap out of us going to stop it?

IT’S A SCAM!
