It is interesting that only 15% of the users on this site support this bill, yet it looks like the house passed it.. Just goes to show how out of touch congress is with the people…We need to vote alot of these nutheads out and get someone with common sense in the congress..

That is only a temporary solution to a permenant problem. What happens when those reserves are tapped out? What then? We need clean renewable energy now not later. We need to stop prolonging the inevitable and make the push to green energy now!

Of all “greenhouse” gasses, Carbon Dioxide is the weakest by orders of magnitude. The only truly significant “greenhouse gas” is water vapor, providing over 95% of the net effect. Carbon dioxide has about 0.12% effect overall, with other atmospheric aerosols such as Methane and other black-bodies combining to cover the other 5%. Global temperatures are primarily driven by energy input from the sun, and the only thing that has any significant effect on that input energy is the albedo (reflectance) of the earth. (Of which there is tremendous evidence…do a couple web searches.) The highest temperatures on record since 1945 were in 1997, and global temperatures according to aggregated data since then have been on a DECLINE, not an increase. Also note that the “predictions” of global warming conformists are orders of magnitude off from actual data.

There is no stagnation, its stabilization. Thats the crux of the argument AGAINST investing in the demonstrably LOW return in renewable energy sources. Coal is a tried and true, PRODUCTIVE, and these days 99.7% clean energy source (c&t plans from the 90s reduced toxic emissions nearly completely, the remainder has no detrimental effect on the environment overall.) Spending hundreds of billions on sources of energy that have SIGNIFICANTLY lower return while making it harder and MORE expensive to produce energy from proven sources like coal and oil, do nothing but create a drain on our economy while having a net zero effect on global temperatures. The only significant force on earth that affects global temperatures is the sun, and the only significant effect on that input energy is the albedo of the earth. Why “create” jobs in a market that is so fragile and weak it will increase costs enough to put many, many other businesses out of business (loosing just as many, if not more, jobs)?

I am sure that someone has mentioned this but do people realize that this bill includes every stationary carbon producing enity. If I am reading the bill right in section 700 in explains that every enity that produces 25,000 tons of CO2 are subject to this bill. Every house, resturant, store, school, hospital, manufacturing plant, everything is subject to the tax increases and credits that you need to buy. I want someone in Washington or even on the street to explain to me how this bill is going to bring this county forward.

Forcing people to change is very hard to do just wait until all the oil is gone. Then we will have to change. And then the government can make some jobs for air purification. LOL jk

Coal burning is the number one cause of alarming worldwide rise in mercury pollution of fish. Burning coal is a leading cause of smog, acid rain, global warming, and air toxics. Burning fossil fuels causes air pollution & accumulation of toxic wastes. Mother nature buried coal & oil for a reason-they are the fuels from hell. Wind & Solar energy is abundant and free from pollution and deadly toxins-they are the fuels from heaven.

Almost all of the institutions trading permits are owned by Al Gore or Goldman Sachs. This Cap and Trade system is nothing more than government-sanctioned FRAUD. This system is starting to look more and more like a criminal enterprise than a federal program. The biggest proponent of this program was Enron. I wonder why. This bill seems perfect ways for the Mafia, money-laundererers, and terrorist financiers to scam the system and gain easy funding for their nefarious activities. Anyone who administers this program, as well as anyone in Congress who votes for this fraud, should it become law, should be investigated and maybe prosecuted for fraud. These officials could keep Bernie Madoff company.

It’s a FACT that the EPA is wanting to classify water vapor (like off of dams and hydro-electric generators) as a taxable polluting money maker too. There goes even higher energy costs. How much more asinine can this BS get? I have a feeling if the public is pushed much more it isn’t going to be a pretty sight. I haven’t read anything about cattle yet but nothing would surprise me with these greedy bastards running around out of control. Basically that sums up exactly what has happened to our country, greed and bastards. I would love to see some of these greedy POS’s removed from office, preferably out of the country but I’ll take what is within reason. You know if they taxed the damn illegal immigrants (Mexican population) for methane they could cut the deficit in half eh?

I’m all for change that saves tax dollars. There are ways to fully fund clean air, like drilling oil in America and using the money from our own wells to create new jobs and new green plants. Without raising taxes on already over charged utility bills. It’s very simple really, you people are so blind to what’s going on, it’s not just about clean air, thats just a front. I am not a supporter of the global warming theory. In the 1970s the big thing was that we were all headed into another ice age. It is cyclical. Get over it.
What we cannot get over is that coal and oil are going to run out, and sticking our heads in the oil-sands and pretending that it will all go away is a disasterous plan for our children. This bill has solid plans to create jobs in technologies that will allow us to stop getting oil by relying on countries that hate us, such as Iran and Venezuela.
Most bills in congress and all bills that get signed into law are compromises. This one is in better shape than most. Get it passed into law so we can start repairing the economy, then fix the detailed problems that it has.

Actually, CO2 increases have been shown to LAG temperature increases. How can anything in the future influence the past? If the themerature increase occurs BEFORE the CO2 increase, CO2 cannot cause the temperature increase.

Also, correlation does NOT mean causation. How do we know there is no hidden variable influencing both?

This bill will change America indefinitely. I am urging congress to not even consider this bill. This will cost America jobs-plain and simple! We have been taxed enough. Why dont you pass a bill to specify exacatly where our money is going to the penny.
