Commom Sense, you sure don't seem to have any and your name-calling is the hallmark of liberal bias. Get a clue; people are onto ObamaNation and are no longer buying into it's false ideals. Create a crisis, then rush to install the solution only you can provide. Lousy, sloppy, strategy! And cpnpa, we are nowhere near China's levels of polution and we've had much more industry for many more years as a developed nation. Suck a tale pipe: no one said exhaust was good; but we need proven alternatives first, the good ole' American free enterprise way; then after the private sector spends the money & develops new products we'll all rush out to get them, NOT BEFORE you prove you can do it better (think mouse trap)

It seems to me that the only people that support this bill, dont have a whole lot to say other then something bashing the GOP. The people who only look at party affiliation are the problem with this country, they vote for reps. and then the reps. vote for bills according to the way their party wants them too. Last time I checked we were all AMERICANS and should have the best interests of AMERICA in mind regardless of party affiliation. If we dont get back to being strictly AMERICANs this country is done for! P.S. Cap and Trade is just another way to tax the AMERICAN people, it may create green jobs, but the amount of jobs being "created" wont outnumber the amount of jobs lost due to the larger expense of cap and trade. Opportunity costs people, opportunity costs!! Basic economics.

While the points made both pro and con are interesting reading we need to remember that although it would probably create some new jobs there is also a down side to all of this.
While this may or may not create new jobs that is to create an increase in the over all number of jobs after taking into account the jobs (and it will cost jobs) that it causes us to lose do to the increased operating cost. Which will be caused in part by the new an increased Federal Taxes and regulations?
Then we have to look at the increases that we will see at the gas pump and let’s not forget the utility cost which will certainly go up for all of us.
Over all I will have to say we will loose if this bill is made into law.

There are no jobs and i'm to old to start over , with no car , so what the heck ! Unemployment is alot more than you are telling us . You are not counting the people that could not draw employment checks ! Small towns are hit the worst . I guess we will have to set up tents ! Get a bow and arrows so we can hunt for food and go back to the dark ages .

No jobs? I'm sitting here in a small town, looking through Friday's paper for something my brother-in-law could do if he relocates down here, and (between the "make money from home" and "fast paced sales opportunity" scams) I see at least five jobs available that only require a HS diploma if even that. Since my company never bothers to put openings in the paper, I know there are more, too.

Does anyone out there actually belive the "polluters" are going to pay for this without the cost being passed on to the consumer? Is anyone really that nieve?

I personally believe that our businesses (GE) are pushing this and our lapdog politicians are capitalizing and trying with this tax to benefit from it also.

I also believe nowhere in the constitution does it state our Govt. is in the private or should outwardly support the private sector in a business.

Great point. Lost in all the arguments of whether this is a good idea or not is whether congress even has the authority to do it. Unfortunately that doesn't matter any more. It doesn't win votes to use the constitution. It works much better to pamper everyone and tell us what we can and can't do. Eventually they will tell us who we can and can't vote for.

I'm sorry, but the stimulus package that was recently passed was said to have unemployment at only 6% as opposed to 8% if we hadn't passed it. Unemployment is now beyond BOTH percentages. Anything that this administration and crazy eyes Nancy Polosi says will create jobs, I wouldn't trust it. Although this bill is said to lower unemployment, we must look at the big picture. People are barely scraping by to keep their electricity on. What do these politicians think will happen to these people, these families, YOUR family... if the cost of power TRIPLES after this bill?

I wonder if Washington ever listens to NASA. Seems like only last week that they reported that THERE IS NO GLOBAL WARMING!!! NASA itself reported that global warming is CYCLIC!! Is anyone out there old enough to remember the impending new ice age of the 70's? GIVE ME A BREAK!!!
This is only a special interest groups' way of extorting cash out of AMERICANS pockets. But remember, our government LOVES special interest groups. Approximately 450,000,000,000 dollars of the 870,000,000,000 dollar so called stimulous package, went to special interest groups.
WE NEED TO WAKE UP, AMERICA!!!

Wow. Can't believe that the climate change debate is happening on the boards of a good website like this. Climate change denial is a thing of the past, people. I mean I can present you with evidence even though I know none of you will read it. Also, you claim that NASA has found that global warming is cyclic? Wow, great job! You're absolutely right, our planet does go through a periodic warming and cooling cycle. doberman2, take a look at NASA's website - this took me about 30 seconds of searching:http://www.nasa.gov/centers/goddard/news/topstory/2008/human_impact.html
In this release, Cynthia Rosenzweig of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Science in New York says, "Humans are influencing climate through increasing greenhouse gas emissions and the warming is causing impacts on physical and biological systems that are now attributable at the global scale and in North America, Europe, and Asia."
Please don't claim that you know what you're talking about before doing actual research on the subject.

i just mailed my congressman from utah. i hope he understands what this is because i heard on Glen Beck that they give more time to talk about post offices (census) than to talk about Cap n Trade.

Does anyone understand why there is so much mayhem in passing so much legislation?

This will increase the cost of energy for every business and person. It may create jobs but the businesses will have to find ways to pay for the expenses of higher energy costs and so will every American. How will they do this? No good business that stays in business swallows the cost of increased costs. They pass it on to the consumers. So everything we purchase will become more expensive. This is simply a tax to change how you use energy. It is a socialistic attempt to control society.

Climate change has not been scientifically proven to be warming. We have sufficient science to show that we are actually entering a cooling period for the next 100 years. So why are we allowing a selective few, that think they are smarter than the masses, bully us into actions that simply cost us more and tax us more for no established reason. This act,if enacted,is nothing but a sham. We should vote out any and all of congress that votes for the enactment of such.

Al Gore, Henry Waxman; criminals of the highest order, and should go to jail for the costliest, deadliest hoax ever perpetrated on THE WORLD. It doesn't take more than a 5th grade intellence with a few basic facts in hand (such as "Current CO2 levels hover around 385 parts per million (ppm), a relatively minor constituent of the earth’s entire atmosphere – less than 4/100ths of 1% of all gases present.” In fact, "99.72% of the greenhouse effect is due totally to natural causes" - to be able to figure out that even if this hoax WERE true, we couldn't do a thing about it. I AM reassured at the number of level heads that seem to be 'out there' in the heartland. http://factorlie.com/how-unelected-epa-officials-will-double-your-energy-costs-ignorance-is-expensive/

In case you folks, who don’t like the H.R. 2454, must have forgotten that oil is considered national security to the US Government. If we add the cost of all our military bases around the world, all the wars, all EPA clean ups and the total health care cost from long term exposure to pollution, your gas at the pump is actually costing about $ 7-8 per gallon. Your taxes are paying the difference, so you can get illusion that fossil fuels are cheap, so don’t mess with it! Even the giant coal burning China is jumping on the green wagon? PS. Why did the Soviet Union invade Afghanistan in 1980? Afghanistan has no resource of any kind?

Look, get over the climate change debate. Look at the economics of it. The future is in renewable resources that come from the sky and sun, not underground fossils from ancient history.

Robert Kennedy, Jr., foreword from The Green Collar Economy by Van Jones:

"Today we don't need to abolish carbon as an energy source in order to see its inefficiencies starkly or understand that the addiction to it is the principal drag on American capitalism. The evidence is before our eyes. The practice of borrowing a billion dollars each day to buy foreign oil has caused the American dollar to implode. More than a trillion dollars in annual subsidies to coal and oil producers has beggared a nation that four decades ago owned half the globe's wealth. Carbon dependence has eroded our economic power, destroyed our moral authority, diminished our international influence and prestige, and damaged our health and landscapes. It is subverting everything we value."

By the way, to everyone who is decrying energy price hikes and increased taxes: oil and coal are cheap is because of government subsidies. Move our investments to renewables and they will be cheap. And they will get much cheaper. Imagine having a series of solar panels on your roof that will actually generate money over time. We have the technology, we have the ability, let's get to work!

The moral is, you're going to pay for energy either way. Would you rather continue down a path from cheap to extremely expensive? Or a path from cheap to cheaper to virtually costless? Think about it.

We wouldn't be sending so much money to overseas oil-producing countries if the same federal government that is complaining about was not also the road-block stopping us from drilling our own oil.

Global warming is a farce and simply another way for the progressives to steal money from hard working Americans. Also remember it is a theory not a fact. You can't stop mother nature let us enjoy the last 10 billion years we have on earth.

Look into your refrigerators. How many beef, pork and dairy products do you have? Our dairy farmers and cattlemen are struggling. Will this tax keep the livestock from belching? All it will do is put the hard working Americans who feed us out of business. We need to support our farmers, not those on Capitol Hill who support the craziest tax of all.
