I am not a supporter of the global warming theory. In the 1970s the big thing was that we were all headed into another ice age. It is cyclical. Get over it.
What we cannot get over is that coal and oil are going to run out, and sticking our heads in the oil-sands and pretending that it will all go away is a disasterous plan for our children. This bill has solid plans to create jobs in technologies that will allow us to stop getting oil by relying on countries that hate us, such as Iran and Venezuela.
Most bills in congress and *all* bills that get signed into law are compromises. This one is in better shape than most. Get it passed into law so we can start repairing the economy, then fix the detailed problems that it has.
I agree we need to vote these IDIOTS out of office 2008 was the coldest year in the last 10 years. and while were at it lets AUDIT THE FEDERAL RESERVE HR-1207 and S-604 THE REAL TAX PROBLEM.
I am with all who are against this bill----this would be a travesty if it were to pass. Our economy is suffering enough and there has been nothing but injustice done to our American workforce. Why can't we learn from our foreign friends who have already tried and failed on some of these programs that are being shoved down our throats? Americans need to take care of America!
Try reading actual scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals that are accepted by the scientific community - even though I doubt that you would put in the time to actually researching your claims with credible data.
This report - here it is again,
http://www.globalchange.gov/publications/reports/scientific-assessments/us-impacts/download-the-report
finds in its key facts section that
"1. Global warming is unequivocal and primarily human-induced.
Global temperature has increased over the past 50 years. This observed increase is due primarily to human-induced
emissions of heat-trapping gases. (p. 13)
The consensus on this is rapidly changing throughout the world: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB124597505076157449.html#mod=djemEditorialPage
There is plenty of evidence that refutes the above statement, and many scientists are willing to risk their reputations to speak out against man-made global warming.
Actually many scientists are paid off by the billion dollar subsidy injected Oil, Coal, Nuke and Gas industries to speak falsely against climate change evidence. What do the other scientists have to gain by going against these companies? What other phenomenon is causing the icecaps and glaciers to melt? And what is causing them to melt so fast? And what is causing them to melt at the exact same rate as the global rise in greenhouse gas emissions? The best boost to an economy is innovation, it creates new jobs and life for the American Public.
The same old Oil, Coal, Gas and Nuke industries are stagnating our economy and producing fewer jobs each year, while sending our environment and thus economy to the bottom with it. How many more billions in handouts to industry execs, will our Chinese assisted-economy hold? Do you want to find out?
The world has moved on from the climate debate. The transition to clean energy technology is a matter of national security - it's time to stop funding nations like Saudi Arabia, home of extreme islamic terrorist cells, with our oil money and start producing energy here in America.
Also, check out the report's modest 27 pages of references.
Read the latest publications, and be open-minded. I've given you the evidence - now stop complaining and get on board with the rest of the country and the educated world.
Actually, the world outside the U.S. is starting to question the validity of man-made global warming (see the Wall Street Journal article linked above). I agree, we need to stop funding Saudi Arabia, but this bill is not the answer. The environmental impact of wind farms and solar farms capable of producing enough power to replace coal-fired plants is at least equal to coal mining. Why is clean nuclear power not included in this bill? Why can't we drill for oil here? Yes, it will take 10 years to see results, but wind and solar will also take time to develop. Why can't we let our free markets do the work of finding better sources of energy? The government doesn't need to be funding this.
Completely false lucy, if that was the case why are world leaders meeting in Copenhagen this December to discuss ways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions? Wind and Solar plants capable of producing energy equivalent have a virtual negative impact in comparison to Coal. Clean nuclear power doesn't exist, plutonium tailings from nuclear mining poison our water supplies! We can drill for oil here! But it is dumb, not only would it take over ten years to seismograph the oil, it would take even more time to deliver it to the American Public. In that time we could have built many more clean energy wind and solar plants, as well as waste biodiesel plants! The government has been funding Coal etc. for decades, they're the reason our free market doesn't exist! The point of subsidies is to fund new and innovative technologies, how much money do you think cars cost when they came out?
Cap and trade is just another power grab by our federal government. It will be a additional tax burden...one that we cannot afford. Cap and trade, along with nationalized health care, will be disastrous for the United States of America.
This tax is going to destroy us! All of you in Congress who vote "yes" on this, get ready to receive your pink slips!!! We The People will not tolorate OUR representatives passing this kind of legislation when they know it will make our energy bills skyrocket. Get ready to come and live in the REAL world with the rest of us when it's time for re-election!!!!
This bill is just another scam to raise our taxes. In reality if passed the energy tax would:
Reduce aggregate gross domestic product (GDP) by $9.6 trillion
Destroy an average of 1-3 million jobs, every year
Raise electricity rates 90 percent after adjusting for inflation
Raise inflation-adjusted gasoline prices by 74 percent
Raise residential natural gas prices by 55 percent
Raise an average family's annual energy bill by $1,500 annually
Increase the federal debt by 26 percent, which is $29,150 per person
Wow, 3 million jobs EVERY YEAR? Soon there'd be no jobs left!!
More realistic than Nancy Pelosi's claim that if we didn't pass the second stimulus bill that we could lose 500 million jobs by December.
Besides the fact that certain individuals stand to gain unfairly with the passage of this bill and the issue that this bill does a terrible job at actually addressing 'climate change' as it's defined; the bill will further drag down that economy with greater costs of doing business for industrial firms and energy costs for every American individual and company.
This is a truely irresponsible bill that makes me quesiton the goals my government has for this country. Things like this have been attempted before, always to the detriment of the American individual.
Water vapor in the air is also a greenhouse gas. We should ban it too! And tax it!
Let's tax air and water... we already tax the earth. Next we're gonna tax fire? The 4 elements taxed?
This is so ridiculous and SICK.
Plus, we need to eliminate all traces of CO2! Who cares if the plants use it to create oxygen! It is evil and must be eliminated!
The jury is still out on the whole "global warming" thing. Why are the morons in Congress and the Commander in Thief so eager to nail us (the American taxpayers) to the wall over a theory. I learned early in life there are two thing that don't mix well in this world, science and politics.
I ran across a great video and embedded it on website... http://www.myconservativecorner.com. It's a great video.
I BELIEVE THIS IS ANOTHER WAY FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO INTRUDE ITSELF INTO OUR LIVES. JUST ANOTHER CHIP (OR SHOULD IS SAY SLICE) AT OUR FREEDOM!

The Great Global Warming Swindle, debunking the global warming religion!
There will be no America if we go down this road. This man should be thrown out of office for even suggesting a bill so stupid. If we cut our emissions and no other countries do this is a worthless effort. Science says in fifteen years we will have more air pollution coming from China to the United States than all the United States creates each year. Wake up people. This is just a chump from the worst state in the country trying to win votes.
This bill is a tax on ALL Americans including those making under 250K which the President said he would not do. Also, there is disagreement among scientists that global warming is actually real. Why are we trying to fix something that may not be happening? MONEY maybe???? It seems like Pelosi, Gore and GE will see huge increases in wealth if this bill passes.
Really this is just like every other government. There's the reason they claim to be doing it, and the reason they're really doing it. They *say* that it's to curtail greenhouse gases and reduce global warming, but it's really just a way to increase taxes, increase taxes, reward friends, and punish enemies.
Read this article to see how monumentally government energy policies fail. http://www.thenation.com/doc/20090420/hayes
Hey everybody, the House is now debating this legislation as a substitute amendment, under H.R. 2998: http://www.opencongress.org/bill/111-h2998/show
My favorite quote is from the founder of the Weather Channel, John Coleman “Global Warming. It is the hoax. It is bad science. It is a high jacking of public policy. It is no joke. It is the greatest scam in history.”
I cannot believe how easy it is to scam people, there is indeed a sucker born every minute. Your only hope is to buy stock in the companies our buddy Al Gore has invested in, he now has over 100 million dollars from this con game, if you can't beat them then join them!
Wow, John Coleman. What an accredited individual. Climate change doubters, if you still somehow maintain your belief that this is a "scam," please also refute the legitimacy of each of these U.S. government departments, which have contributed their expertise to compiling the U.S. Global Change Research Program's 2009 Report on the harmful effects of climate change on the United States.

Wow, look who's been drinking the Kool-Aid. Have you not seen the reports of scientists who are austrisized from their Universities and other organizations if they go against the "mainstream" thought? Science is just as political as every other area and if you want to be published (by a corrupt and biased media) or accredited, sometimes you have to swallow your pride and follow the herd. I think there is information that refutes all findings if one chooses to educate oneself in a truly unbiased way. Say hi to Mr. Gore next time you speak with him.
No, I actually haven't seen the "reports of scientists who are ostracized from their universities and other organizations if they go against the mainstream thought." Please give me an example if you can. If scientists are "ostracized," or in general discredited in their field by an overwhelming compilation of data that suggests they are wrong, they generally admit the mistake so as to remain at the front of their field, or join the minority of conspiracy theorists like you - but that's just bad science. Being a physics student myself I know that admitting mistakes and changing the way you have been researching a problem in accordance with the latest data compiled, even if this data refutes your findings, is the best way to advance in the field.
NIKOLA TESLA ***ostracized, discredited, and ROBBED*** ONE among many!
You are one of the truly delusional sleepwalking masses.
SHUT OFF YOUR TV MAN AND DO SOME REAL RESEARCH!
I am bursting at the seems with anger because of jack ass regurgitators of fraudulent information such as yourself who if genuinely wanted for truth would come to true conclusions.
Let's get one thing straight, I am far from a "conspiracy theorist". I don't know how far into your studies as a physics student you are, but the fact that you are a student in today's liberal environment explains how indoctrinated you have been and continue to be. I am very well educated and also very well paid in the business community. I have a library full of dissenting views both for and against the science of global warming as well as history and philosophy. Perhaps when you are out of academia and in the real world, you will experience the politics that I speak of including in the world of science.
