So the computer costs $230 more. If you make $1,000 today, how much of that do you lose to income taxes? 25%? If so, now you’re down to $750. You’re only looking at one side of the equation. The increased sales tax side. Did you forget about the other side where you’re tax home pay goes up?
After skimming over the bill it just sounds like more big-government horseshit.
But, it’s probably better than income tax.
This is a scapegoat for politicians. It’s time for Americans to simply stop paying income taxes by changing their # of dependents. Think about those Fat Cat politicians would mess their pants if they woke up and saw that not 1 American was paying 1 cent in income tax. They would stop in their tracks! They would then be forced to stop padding their own pockets, padding the pockets of their friends and political supporters, stop sending Americans hard earned money to support foreign dictators, foreign banks and The United Nations! America is NOT a Global Nation. I do not believe in ONE WORLD ORDER! I believe in Liberty (FREEDOM)!
NO! NO! NO! to H.R. 25 the “Fair Tax”. This is not a fair tax when those it purports to be fair to do not owe the tax anyway. Wake up. Climb out of you shell. Read the tax code for yourself. You may find as I did that Americans are to be taxed on income from foriegn source only. The income tax is a fraud played upon citizens too lazy or stupid to fight the employer and IRS for the rights they already have. NO! NO! NO! to H.R. 25 the “Fair Tax”.
While I agree with the basic concept of this bill, the actual enactment of it is made impossible by the utter chaos that would be created during the transissional process. A flat tax system would be much simpler but making the switch is not possible. HOWEVER… we can work toward that end by initiating the action and making solid steps toward it. Our current system is wasting nearly 65% of the money it collects on the process of collecting it!!!??? Let’s get our heads together and work out an action plan to see this accomplished!
why are republican trying to switch the blame of income tax on the dems. when they where the ones who passed the amendment to incorperate them? ref. the The Wilson-Gorman Tariff Act of 1894.and also The United States Revenue Act of 1913 also known as the Tariff Act or Underwood Tariff (ch. 16, 38 Stat. 116, October 3, 1913), imposed the first federal income tax following the ratification of the Sixteenth Amendment and lowered basic tariff rates from 40% to 25%.when GOP was a majority party and they held presidency. and u thrust them to do something right.
The Wilson-Gorman Tariff Act was introduced by Democrats and supported by the Democrats. It’s purpose was to reduce the rates of the McKinley Tariff, introduced by William McKinley while he was in Congress, as a Republican. The Revenue Act of 1913 was signed by Woodrow Wilson, a Democrat.
Read the bill. I like the legislation and hope that it can pass. If not there is always 2010. As a Business person, I think this new tax system would boom the economy and provide millions of jobs. The current tax system is a burdon and costs Americans billions of dollars just to understand it. This bill would provide a true fair tax on all americans. Polititions and Corperations would no longer have loop holes to go through in order to avoid taxes. No more crippling estate tax and capital gains tax. Investment would thrive and prosper and Small Business would flourish. I hope all of you that support this will contact your representatives and encourage them to vote Yes on this bill. If not now then in 2010 when the conserivative revolution begins. Spread the word, real change may be coming to America, and its change we all can support and believe in.
23% is just fine an dandy for the average WORKING American, but absolutely LUDICROUS for a college student or those who are currently unemployed, etc. With some exceptions on taxing students and unemployed, I would vote yes on this bill. As it stands, I vote a RESOUNDING NO!!
Did you think of the increased income you would have without having to pay other taxes?
So is that were the exemptions stop? Only the unemployed and students? What about the poor? What about the elderly? There has to be a line somewhere.
This bill is a horrible idea. Do people think things through?
Well, obviously some do since it hasn’t passed.
I definitely think our tax system needs some changes, but relying completely on a sales tax to fund our government? You people re nuts.
As opposed to putting up with the IRS and all of the tax loopholes for the wealthy? I think you are nuts.
Question to anyone! From what I have read, in general it sounds pretty good. But what happens if you get a huge medical bill? You do not have a choice in some cases whether or not to have an operation (unless you just want to go ahead and die). Say you have $100,000 bill, tax on that as I understand it is $23,000 and tax is not covered by insurance. Not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand happens.
Well it’s all relative baldeagle. If the operation isn’t covered with this tax proposal then it wouldn’t be covered under the current system. So, under this proposed system you have more money to save on your own to cover taxes on consumption. So what if that consumption is health care?
Yes, but the surgery should also be less costly with the savings in tax that the hospital would have had to pay under the old system. The insurance plans will change believe me.

The last line gives them seven years to repeal the income tax. With that long paying 23% ADDITIONAL sales tax AND income taxes, We’ll all be BROKE ! Besides, given 7 years, they’ll find some way to keep them both. The only way it could work is to trade one for the other, IMMEDIATELY !

Could you please say something useful for once?
I agree with many of the comments already posted. It sounds appealing for getting rid of some of the mess of the bureaucracy that we have (never constitutionally established, btw), but would cause mass chaos during those 7 interim years. Also, I think that while it would give the “average”, aka middle class, American more spending power and more economic freedom in deciding what to spend your money on (save it!), it would be hugely disadvantageous to those in need. When your income falls below the poverty line, an extra 23% on all of your staple goods could be crippling, with or without the income from no property tax. I’ll have to look into the bill more.
But hey, at least someone in Congress is thinking about reducing the bureaucracy’s size.
