I agree with you, but we need to remember that we are not a true democracy. In our republic we can only vote for someone to vote for us. Then hope that they vote the way they promised. To do what you say would undermine the constitution and the vision of our forefathers.

I hope it passes! Anything that would be good for this country seems to be a no-no to the Feds. HMMMMMM Wonder Why?

  • Nuvitula 03/02/2009 3:09am

Obama wants change right? Well, lets have it… PASS THIS BILL!!

  • miternjrt 03/03/2009 2:44am

A Flat tax would level the playing field. You buy – you pay taxes.

  • darwinms 03/03/2009 6:43am

I have supported the Fairtax since its creation. I have constantly told people about it. Generating tax revenue through purchase power is the most viable and neutral method ever introduced. To think that you will have a full paycheck that the government doesn’t dip their hands into and the ntelling us it is voluntary, which is a lie. To receive monies back into your account up to the poverty level and based on how much you make, meaning that the more you make, the less the prebate is makes it fair to both the low and high income earner since the low income earner will receive a higher prebate than a top dollar earner. Also, since it is based on income, you can forget about welfare vampires taking money from people who live the real American dream, to progress or decline upon your own initiave and actions.

To add a note about any supposed “Intellectual” who says you are paying the “30%” sales tax. Here is why they are idiots. They are not including the Prebate in their equation and they are not removing the taxes currently taken out of your pay from the equation. I am no Rocket Scientist, but I do know numbers. BTW, counting all the taxes we pay right now, the average is 23%.

The income tax should be repealed only for those who make less than $100k annually. There should be no taxes of any kind of food or clothing. The national tax should be a much lower amount only for those who make $50-$100k annually. However, those who don’t pay income or national taxes (or make less than $50k annually) should also not have to file tax returns for the fed or the states; meaning ‘no pay—no return’ and no EIC credits any more.

An interesting idea, have this VAT tax for the entire populace and visitors, as well as an income tax for those in the top 10% or so of income (anyone who takes home more than $118k a year).

That would address the issue of disproportionate wages between the lowest and highest level income brackets, secure against wage loss after a tax decrease, and help the general welfare of the nation.

Now, that would be a bill worth supporting.

This is a USE TAX – How much fairer can it get? When Steve Forbes ran for President, he had studies done on how a flat would work. At the time, if an 11% national tax was implemented (instead of Income Tax), the National Debt would be erased in 5 to 7 years. Then drop the tax to 7% to keep the existing budget without going into debt. It doesn’t get any better than that.

The “Fair Tax” is the only voluntary tax. In resonse to “sspsllc” those that make less than $50K use more of the fed resources than those who make more. All citizens should pay taxes, the only fair way is consumption based, rich people will by more stuff, poor people will by less, period.

This allows Americans to be too free. No way our oppressive regime approves this.

  • r2fuzzwart 03/06/2009 6:15am

The time has come. The tax code is unintelligable to but a few tax experts. Lopholes are rampart for the few. The AMT is a political football used annually to appease the folks at home and doesn’t meet it’s original objectives. No illegal/under the table monies are taxed at any rate – zilch. An equal and fair tax system could only have one rate for all (above the set/changing level of poverty). The numerous rates in the Tax Code in itself are unfair. The time for change is long overdue. Supporting – TAX BREAKS/DEDUCTIONS – encouraging large families made sense in more egarian times but no more. Do away with ALL DEDUCTONS, throw out the tax code, retrain workers in the IRS and implement a point of sale tax at the same rate for all ( poverty level and below would be exempt). Former IRS employees at a greatly reduced number thru attriton would marshall the new tax system..

The tax system is and always has been a bad idea. Now it’s completely out of control and it simply has to stop. Why are the simple ideas always discounted? The fair tax is simple, and it would work, just not to the benefit of “big money”. Stand up America!! We have to make this change!

Just remember how many people would be put our of a job by changing our tax structure. Entire industries would be wiped out, which is exactly what we need right now…

The people that work at the IRS need a reality check and to lose their jobs. They been bulling us around too long and think they are God.

  • zzbudzz 03/14/2009 1:57am

The federal reserve (elite world bankers) will never let thier paid stooges vote for this..sorry we can dream but will Never happen!

  • Paco6945 03/14/2009 10:35am

bdougherty — on the contrary, Our current tax structure greatly impedes productivity. For example, the wholesale price of an industrial item manufactured in the US includes 35% corporate income tax. The price of that same item manufactured in Ireland includes only 15%.

No wonder our trade deficit is so high. How can we compete in world markets with equipment that costs 20+%?

The FairTax would eliminate all corporate income taxes (which are really paid by consumers, not by corporations, because they are built into the price of the item).

  • ronbar87 03/15/2009 10:20am

I do support a federal sales tax, However I think 23% is a little high and wander how they achieved this number. I also think that elderly people how have paid taxes all their lives should be exempt from paying this tax. Simply done by using drivers license or other form of Id. when purchasing, a magnetic strip like used on credit cards would apply the appropriate tax.

  • ronbar87 03/15/2009 10:29am

How ever I dont agree with ending cooperate income taxes in this matter. Retain cooperate income tax and give cooperations tax breaks for creating new jobs. i.e. a company has 100 employees and creates 10% new jobs (10 new perminate jobs) they receive a tax break. Use this a an incentive to creat new jobs. We all know how bad we need new jobs.

  • rggiggles 03/16/2009 3:12am

We could sure learn a thing or two from Texas. Here in TN, we have no state taxes but we have those across the state who’s unemployment stopped cold! I agree with you on not taxing the elderly, they have done their fair share of paying into the system.

  • ltgengr 03/16/2009 12:22pm

Washington won’t let this pass because they know it would be good for us.

  • Wondering 03/17/2009 6:05am

We need this bill for both individuals and companies in the USA. Individuals can control their tax burden by limiting purchases when neccessary. We have many companies incorporating in Switzerland so that they can become competitive in the global market.
This bill levels the playing field for both individuals and companies.

  • callagan 03/18/2009 5:36am

Even my accountant loves this bill. He will survive because he will still have to CPA corporate records. I am 60, I don’t consume that much, and deserve to be rewarded for less consumption, not less income. The confiscatory taxes of the US are an embarrassment. Value added Taxes, also called MWST in Europe tax people based on what they buy not what they earn. Getting the Federal Government back to the constitutional responsibility of protecting the shores, feeding the poor and leaving us alone is a dream I would love to see played out before I die.

If we reformed our system of taxation I would be in favor of flat tax, but I’ve changed my mind on the FairTax. Please, read these articles and realize that taxation is not the problem, it’s spending.

The fair tax is recommended as a stepping stone. Yes, it only answers half of the problem. But the answer to other half is already at hand and does not require the passage of any laws beyond the repeals of old ones.

  • ronbar87 03/22/2009 7:09pm

You are right. Spending is the problem, or part of it anyway. So you need to correct that and reform the tax system. There are so many unfair taxes. I think the best way is to use a sales tax. That everyone will pay their fair share and you can effective discount taxes for elderly, disabled, and the military. This would end loop holes and rich people not paying taxes. Everyone will pay a fair amount depending on the amount they spend.

  • TXSweet1 03/25/2009 9:06am

I’m in TOTAL support of this one also!! Can you imagine the increased income that would come from all the ILLEGALLY earned money that would then be taxed?!?! If all cash-under-table income & money being made illegally were to be taxed as it is spent … MAN!! Tax the money as it is SPENT & NOT the as it is EARNED (honestly) … and EVERYONE becomes a responsible contributor … not only those of us who earn our money legally and pay our taxes RELUCTANTLY!!

  • RDMIAM 03/26/2009 2:33pm

It’s long overdue. How do we the people get support to get this through the system. This type of tax is long overdue; but Obama wants to levy more and more taxes! Fair tax is a good name for this bill, how can I help?

  • Erin_Nichole 03/27/2009 11:07pm

I dont know how we can get this bill moving but I have the book and I am behind this bill. The only reason for a long tax code is to make it easier for people who wrote them to not pay any taxes!! Sound familliar? So how do we get this going? Lets contact our congress people and tell them to vote yes on this already! WE THE PEOPLE are supposed to have the power so if we ALL tell them vote yes or we will fire them, I think after a few weeks they will listen.

Also please find out where the Tax Tea Party is near you and lets get this ball rolling. We are going to meet in citys all over the nation protesting the wastefull spending of this administration. April 15th 2009! Please come ond let your voice be heard!
