Hate Crime Legislation criminalizes thought itself. That is not what the United States are about.

  • tbyrd 02/25/2009 6:24am

All crime is hate crime, mans contempt for his fellow man, stop fuc**** with legislation and enforce the laws we already have!

  • waynec 02/26/2009 2:15pm

To enhance the penalties for CRIMES against peoples” actually or perceived race, color, religion (unless Christian), national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or disability” is 100% discrimination against all others. There are already laws that make it illegal to “willfully causing bodily injury to any person”.

If Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D) TX doesn’t know this perhaps she doesn’t need to be in Congress.

We don’t need H.R. 256 as it is simply more federal Bull S@it!! We have enough laws on the books that no one bothers to enforce.

OBAMA stands for: One Big Ass Mistake America!!!

  • na_boo7ru 02/27/2009 6:01pm

Sheila Jackson Lee: Clearly has nothing better to do with her time than come up with superfluous legislation.

  • IDPatriot1 03/05/2009 2:04pm

Sheila Jackson Lee – stick to legislation that is beneficial to the nation. Enforce the existing rules and your problem is solved.

  • rodeoron1 03/07/2009 6:46pm

So much for equal protection….this is a constitutional nightmare. Because you have some qualifying characteristic..the government will protect you more???????
This is as stupid as affirmative action.

If we don’t let Pelosi know that we are watching her every move, then she will be tempted to devise a cunning way to move the legislation ahead. Another stronger hate crime bill, HR 262, is also waiting to be brought up for a vote. It permits the federal government expand its jurisdiction even more. The government can “allocate such sums as are necessary to increase the number of personnel to prevent and respond to alleged violations.” Twenty million dollars will be allocated towards the prevention of hate crimes through “anti-bias” education programs. In other words they will use this money to promote homosexuality in our schools and in the media.

Our opponents are patient and determined. Pelosi is counting on our being too tired to fight. But she is wrong! After all, we have much more to lose.

Not only did Jackson-Lee introduce new hate crime legislation, The David Ray Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009, H.R. 256, which is direct opposition to our Constitution, but she also submitted a new companion bill, The David Ray Ritcheson Hate Crimes Prevention Act of 2009, H.R. 262. These two bills directly threaten your freedom of speech and religion. The Prevention Act will also create $10 million dollars in Federal funding to be given to non-profit groups to run the prevention program. This means you will not be able to teach your children Christian values that are opposing the special minority groups like homosexuals, but the schools and other Anti-Christian groups will be able to promote homosexual activity to them and will be well funded to do so. You won’t be able to say a word if you don’t want to be imprisoned. President Barack Obama has supported hate crimes in the past and is expected to sign the bill if it gets to his desk. We need to act now!

PETITION IN OPPOSITION TO HATE CRIMES LEGISLATION

this legislation should be left to the states, the federal government does not have the delegated power by the constitution to pass this legislation. Not that it stops congress or the executive and judicial branches from continually violating the oaths the took we they were elected to office.

Murder is murder, rape is rape, robbery is robbery! To change the punishment based on race, skin color, sexual orientation, sex or another other such factor is the DEFINITION of RACISM. So if your Gay your life is worth more if your not? If your black your life is worth more than a Native American Indian?

If you commit Murder, you get tried and go to jail or get the death penalty based on the crime you commit, not what social group you belong to!

We already have laws to cover the violent crime, we don’t need a new set of laws, enforce what we have!

  • mrlargo 04/25/2009 8:15pm

More significantly, this act is unconstitutional. Read the end of Sec 1 of the 14th amendment.

“Section 1. … nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.”

Take note “equal protection of the laws.” means equal. Congress needs to pull their collective heads out of their asses. Try reading the founding documents that you claim to uphold.

Both parties appear as idiots. They are supposed to be our stewards, protectors and our civil “servants”. We rule them, they serve us. That’s how it is supposed to be. If not for our votes they do not get their jobs. Why is this so hard to remember? How much school did they go through only to act so stupid?

I agree re our so-called “representatives” are simply not listening to the sane voters. The squeeky wheel gets the grease! I guess this means if one makes enough noise. I am in a mood to just re-call them all!!!!!

If this bill is truly an attempt to address interstate crime itself instead of the use of firearms, why are firearms and explosives specified? Is the weapon used somehow related to the nature and motivation of the crime? Not that someone’s race, color, religion, or national origin can be proven as the motivation to commit a crime, or even has to be with wording such as “actual or perceived” which is subject to misinterpretation. Regardless of motivation, “actual or perceived”, the consequences should be the same. Let’s use our resources tracking down criminals, not finding another justification of why we need to, or writing new laws addressing the kind of weapon they use committing a crime.

  • Cloudwing09 05/15/2009 10:22am

We already have hate crime laws. These are sufficient for the need. That is unless we have fallen victim to Big Brother. Big Brother is the kindred of the thought police. We don’t want to go there….

  • Orris 06/28/2009 11:32am

The next step is to pass a law against hate itself, whether or not a crime is committed. If you look like are are angry you go to jail. But wait, what if you commit a crime with a smile on your face? Is it still a hate crime? How will they know you hate the person?

  • Pmcgrath 07/06/2009 3:22pm

All fucking crime is hate crime. If you killed somebody, you probably hated them. Hate crime laws are the definition of racism. Nobody is different, were all people. Hate crime is fucking stupid.

  • BudWiser 07/21/2009 11:01pm

Another “feel-good” stupid “HATE BILL” ! TOTAL WASTE OF TIME RE-INVENTING THE WHEEL! I HATE all “HATE” bills and all should be repealed.

  • citizenCSB 08/17/2009 7:24pm

All hate crimes legislation creates a special class of citizenry. It lifts all so called hate-crime victims to a higher status, It is no more or less hateful to hit an old man than a transexual, yet the alleged perpetrator will suffer a greater punishment for the transexual than the old man. both are hateful. thusly, Lady Justice is no longer blind.

  • b58 01/13/2010 10:46pm

If they want to write a hate crime law then they need to write one for the unborn kids that doctors kills every day in abortion clinics. These little guys has as much right to live as anyone. There must be a hate for them to kill these babies for no reason except to get rid of them. There should be equal laws for the born and unborn. But they are killed every hour and day of the week without a chance of life.
