This is ridiculous. I am living in this country for last 10 years LEGALLY on a dual intent visa and my immigration petition is pending for last 5 years and the way it is going on I would not get it before atleast 8 to 9 years. And these people, who KNOWLINGLY broke law to enter the country illegally or overstayed KNOWINGLY (in most cases) will get green card happily in just 5 years? How disgusting.
What about people who chose to do the right thing, applied for visa, maintained the status and have been waiting for their application to be approved for YEARS?
What is a duel intent visa, never heard of that. I thought the State Department only issued immigrant and non-immigrant visas. The duel intent are in the minds of those coming to the US and if you disclose that at the time of the issue of any non-immigrant visa you would be DENIED as an intended immigrant.
an advice for legal aliens if this bill passes……. become illegal dont give reply to any rfe’s…….proving legal status is difficult not illegal status……..you will get your green card………and dont forget the $$ you will be saving by not paying taxes which as of now legal aliens are highest payers “YES LEGAL ALIENS PAY MORE TAXES THAN THEIR AMERICAN COUNTER PARTS”……and the $$ you will be saving in attorney fees……if this bill is passed before doing something for legal aliens then maybe americans like people who break the law and not those who follow……….btw for record to those people like one poster above who said ‘that legal aliens come on visa and they expect to stay is their mistake’ the visas are for intended immigration like H1 which is employment based and even the family visas……..a lady who marries a LPR does not get a visa just to meet her husband and go back…….but is given so coz there long wait time for getting immigrant visa
This bill is similar to what United Kingdom offers. If you legally stay in UK for 5 years, pay taxes, abide by law with no offences then you can apply for UK PR. I think five years with legal status and having contributed to growth and prosperity of country gives a chance to legal immigrant to become a Permament Citizen. BTW, H1B is a dual intent visa. Worst part is that if that H1B is valid for 6 years only, unless his/her employer files for permanent residency; so if he leave at end of 6 year term he loses all his medicare, Social Security and other funds that he would never see and has to kiss it goodbye.

Please help the legal immigrants who are waiting for their legal permanenet residency a.k.a Green Card, many for the last 10 years or so..
We are following all the rules of the land, pay taxes and contribute to the economy. Till we get a Green card, we are stuck with one employer.
There is a huge backlog of Adjustment of Status for Indians and Chinese.
With this bill, if the illegals get ahead of these legal immigrants its a shame to the law of the land.

You have been paying all the taxes for years. Contact the representatives in Congress to oppose HR 264. If you cannot contact them, don’t complain here. Dont complain that you have been paying SS and Medicare taxes for 10 years without getting a dime back. Contact Congress to respect legal immigrants more than illegal immigrants.
These politician guys just care about illegals because they are their vote bank. Nobody cares about legal immigrants in US. Go raise your voice before illegals gain everything in this bill. Dear President Obama:
Recently an immigration bill was presented in the congress. The HR 264 is embarrassing for legal immigrants.
1) People who are illegal here for more than 5 years will get green card/path to citizenship but people who are legally here for 4 years and 11 months gets nothing.
2) HR 264 says “continuous presence of 5 years”. Of course illegal immigrants can’t leave the country and they will fulfill this requirement, but legal immigrants can leave country so might have left country for even 3 or 4 months in last 5-6 years to visit home country or any other reason including business. Although brief discontinuity is said to be okay but if some legal immigrant leave country to be his/her parents for 2 months in last 5 years? So, this continuous presence rule is tailor cut to include illegal immigrants and exclude legal immigrants.
Is this what law abiding get when they follow rules?
There are about 2 million Americans that are unemployed. If you add 20 million illegals and make them illegal, that will really make finding work difficult for Americans. There will be a lot of rallies against this, Americans will not take this. I hope Obama does not pass this or he will be worse than Bush. If this passes the American Way of Life will be gone. We cannot absorb this amount of people.
Dont be backward thinking, you are not seeing the big picture here.
if 20 million are given the chance to regularize, they will pay taxes and most will want to buy houses and will spend their money instead of sending it home because at that point they would want to settle here, that act alone can fix the economy, help home prices jump up.
Only problem with adding 20 million illegals to the system and thinking they will then add to our economy, they will suck the life out of our social security system, get their citizenship and then move back to the home countries, while still collecting their retirement from here.
ALSO – look at the dollars lost in the thousands of homes that they got and defaulted on during the last 5 years. No help there either.

if 20 million undocumented aliens get a path to citizenship after careful background checks, once they are out of the woodwork, they will automatically contribute to the social security systems (by helping pay for the care and need of the baby boomers).

We want this bill to include those people who are living in this country with legal status and paying taxes for more than five years. This means it should first fix employment-based system. Those people are real contributors to this sluggish economy.

This bill provides no test whatsoever to guard against terrorism. It seems to me you’re giving blanket citizenship to anyone who wants it because congress wants to start lowering the standard of wages and lifestyles here in America. Well, they can start with themselves. Congressmen should start working for minimum wage. Put THAT in this bill and let’s see how fast it passes.

There’s always a job out there if you want to work. It’s not our problem you were deceiving on your papers. If that’s the kind of person you are, maybe you should start looking into Canada instead of here if you don’t want to return “home”.
Reading the bill, in the first part, I thought that this sounds good. I read the last part. OMG!!! If this continues, I will bet that some where,in time, this country will become something that will not be recognizable. What with the “open door” policy to everybody from everywhere, to the fact that people from one area cannot communicate with people from another. The enclaves of different languages and customs will tear this nation apart. Some where in this climate, armed bands will attempt to carve out thier own fifedoms. At that time I’ll bet that other countries that have border control will be upset about illegale from here.
The US is experiencing a severe financial crisis. To allow legal status to 10 million (or more) people is ludicrous. On top of that you want to allow them to bring in family members. Where will these people work? Where will the money come from to grant this amnesty? $2.6 trillion plus add $50-60 billion a year to welfare costs.
Us citizens want you, our government, to serve and defend America and Americans not illegal aliens. We want immigration laws enforced, sanctuary cities gone, illegals deported, and most of all birthright citizenship denied to babies born to illegals as Senator Howard Jacobs intended when he drafted the 14th amendment.
Do the job you were elected to do, by legal American Citizens. You are a government by the people, of the people, for the people. We demand you support the people who elected you to office.
I wish everyone would read the whole bill before commenting. There is some good that will come from this bill and protect some Federal Workers and go back to the way it was before the implentation of the great monster called DHS.
if your legal ok, illegal is breaking the law, you cant be illegal and not broken a law.. We the American Citizens want you to stand up for us and not the illegals. If we break a law we go to jail. Is this not breaking the law? Load them up and send them home. Let their country pay not ours? I think it is unconsciously ignorant and offensive to expect that after breaking a primary federal immigration law (illegal entry) one would expect ANY legal consideration or special treatment. California has been brought to its knees trying to support Mexico’s rightful obligations. Let that be the example and hard learned lesson to the rest of the nation!
