Somebody smart please answer this.
How can the federal government legally require people to purchase a product?
Could the federal government require everyone to purchase a new car or a Chiwawa? To a simpleton like me its seems it would be illegale for the federal government to require people to puchase something.
Any smart people out there that can clear this up
There is no common sense among the federal government. They are d***a****!
The government compels us to purchase a lot of things. Motorcycle helmets, car insurance, child car seats…you could go on and on. Until WE THE PEOPLE make it clear to them they have gone too far in tearing apart the Constitution, we will be subject to this b*ll.
Personally, I am going to make it clear to my 2 Senators and House Rep that if they vote yes on this bill, and protect their own Federal Insurance Plan so they don’t have to be subject to this as well, I will go to great lengths to work to defeat them in the next election.
Yes you are correct but all of the things your have mentioned are required by state governments, I was questioning the ability of the federal government to make us buy stuff
Not sure but I’m wondering if some of these items that the states force us to pay for were not ‘mandated’ by the feds, for example, no federal highway funds unless you pass a law requiring helmets.
I asked my representatives the same question – no response thus far…
" Are members of congress going to be included in this farce? Or will congress prove yet again how deceitful, devious and underhanded they are by exempting themselves in some after midnight charade of democracy in action?"
The government may compel us to purchase those things, but we do have an available option not to do so. If you don’t drive a motorcycle, you don’t need a helmet. No car, no car insurance or child seats. This bill doesn’t even give people the snarky out – don’t get sick and you don’t need insurance. You have to buy it, even if you don’t want it, need it or ever use it.
The gov’t CAN require you to purchase a type of product, but not a particular product. (Free market in light of current laws.) You have a choice of what car insurance provider you use, just as you would have a choice of what health insurance provider you use (like you do already, only poorer people now have more options than they did previously). Part of the govt’s job is deciding what is best for its citizens and how to allocate resources. Car insurance is mandatory. Health insurance may soon become mandatory. Making everyone pay for car insurance premiums did not force this nation into ruin, so I’m wondering why paying for health insurance premiums is any different.
Here’s a link to “The Chart” the GOP produced. Notice that the IRS is on there to.

This bill is about choice. Last year my husband and I paid $20,000 for medical insurance fees. With a public option we will have a choice to choose the medical insurance we now have, or a public plan. I am sure the public plan will be much less than the $20,000 annually that we are paying now. The $20,000 that we paid last year does not include copay’s of $20 for each doctor visit, or copay’s for medication. Working Americans like my husband and I need relief from the price of our medical insurance. This bill would give us a choice for our health care coverage.
Choice?
How is being told that you must do something or face financial penalties
and then jail time a choice?
PS. unless you had the aids or such paying $20,000 a year for heath insurance is a bad Idea. Do you and your husband need $20K a year or more in medical services or drugs? and if you do why should I have to pay for your medical bills?
What makes you think you’d have to pay for her medical bills? Do you make more than $350k/yr?
Universal Health Care implies that everyone can be covered. However, stop and think, government generates revenue by taking from others. If government offers health care to all, it must take more from others to pay for it.
So, the individual that worked 70 hours a week for 20 years and now makes more than 250K annually will be taxed more to cover this bill. Please explain the “fairness” of increasing the taxes on this individual who sacrificed 20 years to reach a goal and now is penalized for it.
Health care is not a right, a right is that which does not take from one to give to another, a right is what the government is to protect, a right is that which is automatically conveyed.
Universal health care will take from select individuals in order to give to others.
If America sets this precedent, Health Care is a right, where will it stop. Here are some examples, it is a right to own a home, it is a right to have a job, it is a right to have a child.
Vote NO.
1. This bill does not change the fee for service payment method which has led to health care cost inflation.
2. The revenues to pay for a “social” program should be broad based and incentivize better health habits (tax on fast food; sugary drinks; or voluntary health procedures such as plastic surgery).
3. Increasing the number of health consumers will lead to either more price inflation or more wait times for services.
4. This bill mandates minimum coverage and restricts choice. This will just increase costs across the board.
Socialism in all its forms is evil. However, this particular flavor of Socialist is the MOST evil.
1. This system will deprive me of the Right to Life. It has been proven time and again that all other socialized medical plans limit patient access to timely treatment. In many medical cases, the wait of a week or two is the difference between life and death. Obamacare will be just like all the others.
2. It is patently immoral to confiscate the product of my labor to re-distribute it to others for any purpose, no matter how benevolent.
3. This will turn doctors into slaves of the state. Expect to see many quit when this passes and few replacements to enter medical school once they learn how cruel the system is to providers of healthcare.
I sincerely wish that all who support this legislation get their wish; my only comfort will be in knowing that some of them will end up suffering under the system they supported.

False: insurance companies are lobbying to make health insurance mandatory.
They would be foolish not to lobby for this,
If I sold bananas for a living I would lobby for a bill that says everyone must eat a banana a day or go to jail.

The insurance and drug companies are pushing this bill, follow the money.
Name one government run program that has worked.
Are you Michael Moore or what?
>>A basic tenent of insurance is that the wider the pool the wider the costs are spread<<
True, pooling resources will work to bring down costs, however, they do not have to be Federally mandated or managed. Congress doesn’t manage their way out of a paper bag- remember Fannie and Freddie? The sane way to go is to create High deductible self directed health plans, treat health care as a commodity and let the market take care of itself.
Even if you function on the false notion of health care as a “right”, which I don’t, that doesn’t make you entitled to gold plated health care if you can’t afford it.
I’m too poor to pay for health insurance and I don’t want a government handout because I’m too poor to pay for it myself.

Please explain what this bill will do to bring costs down.
Read the bill, don’t just listen to what you are told. It is sad that so many just listen to the hype and don’t read the facts, yet offer affirmation.
This bill has legislation that will cripple our nation. Please read it.
So “Having worked in the healthcare field for 30 years, as both a nurse and on the reimbursement side”,
What do you say to the fact the Congressional Budget Office states this bill cannot be implemented without costs going UP, not DOWN? Where is your evidence that costs will come down, or are you just trusting the government that has tripled the horrific deficit they found when they came into office? More accountability for who? Do you see anywhere, government accountability? I will not put my $$$ into another bottomless pit of graft and corruption.
Regards, “Having worked in the healthcare field for 35 years, as both a nurse with a Masters’ degree and on the reimbursement side”

I am glad you brought up mexico, people go to mexico for dental work because it cost musch less, you can get a tooth implant or a root cannal in mexico for $50 a tooth in the US that costs $200-$500 a tooth, the reason it cost so much in the US is do to government regulations and the doctor having to carry millions of dollars in liability insurance.
The Mexico example demonstrates why this bill will make health care more expensive then is currently is in the US. More regulation means more work for the provider which means higher expenses that get passed on to you.
I would bet money that at least 5% of US doctors will move their practices out of the country if this bill passes.
Imagine, medical resorts were you can water sky, hike, get a hysterectomy, have natural childbirth, get a facial, have an ingrown toenail removed, go surfing, have a mole burned off, eat at a 5 star restaurant, get a gastric bypass, go deep see fishing, have heart surgery, get fake nail, all faster and less expensive with better Doctors then in the US.
If this passes you can always tell the government you are Amish or a Jehovah witness so that you are exempted from this law.
You can already do that in India. Let ‘em move. Others who aren’t in it for the money will move in to fill the vacuum.
This bill after reading it completly which I would say is more than most of the people that are considering passing it have , is an afront to working America. This is an insurance policy which will make the insurance companies more wealthy, the doctors, more money , at the cost of the American taxpayer and the poorest people in this country. This isn’t a reform bill , it isn’t a health bill. it is a bill that increases the same issues that placed us here to begain with. As a small business owner I had health care , until the cost reached $1500.00 a month to have it for me and my family. This bill says , that I will have insurance , even at the cost of puting food on the table to feed my family. Is congress so far removed from America that the truth of our problems can not be undestood. This is not a value added bill, it will be another bill to lower the standard of living in America by way of ecomonic slavery.
