We’re reading it…. right now. brought to you by this administration for the first time in history.
you are an idiot, flat out, can you dress your self in the mornings? does your mother carry around a rag to wipe the slobber from your chin? Good lord, you are replying to a post made 2 weeks ago when they were trying to push the bill through without giving people time to read it. They failed at getting it passed before people had time to read it because people spoke up.
Can you not remember 2 weeks back? Are you on drugs? Holy cow man you are freakin lost in this wold.

I want my health care from the same people who brought us the U.S. Postal Service. Is anybody going to read the bill before passing it this time?
The post office works great… you really see a problem with a service that gets a letter across the country in 1 or 2 days for slightly more than a quarter?
The post office does not have the money to make parole next month, they are closing offices they are bankrupt.

…which will get cheaper thanks to competition…
Or go away completely because it can’t compete, which some would say is the whole goal of this bill anyway.
clejeune,
You are COMPLETELY MISSING THE POINT.
You write, “If you don’t, then don’t take the public option, just keep your existing plan (which get cheaper thanks to competition.”
Sure, I can keep my existing plan — but under this bill I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PUBLIC OPTION ON TOP OF THAT!!!
Oh, and that “competition” thing? Private insurers will never be able to compete with a public plan where no one cares if it loses money. Obama has said from the get-go that he wants a SINGLE-PAYER plan — and THERE IS NO COMPETITION with a single-payer plan.
Barack Obama, 2003, in a speech to the AFL-CIO:
“I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care program…and that’s what I’d like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we have to take back the White House, we have to take back the Senate, and we have to take back the House.”

You’ve hit the definition of Capitalism. Without competition, there is nothing that will keep the prices under control. The problem with this bill is that the proposers seem to think we live in a society where people don’t cheat, we have endless stores of money, and we all want to be taken care of. I fought very hard to be considered an adult and make my own choices. I think it’s appalling that the national government, people who we elected, don’t seem to think we can decide what’s best for us.
The bill is idyllic in a perfect world, but it can never work. We can’t afford more government spending and the officials we elected to represent us seem to have forgotten where the money for these bills are coming from.
It can never work? Really..?? All it’s attempting to do is remove some inefficiency in the health care system – and provide an inexpensive basic health insurance option to 42 million people. You really think that is impossible? It’s not even necessarily that difficult.
Some countries charge nothing for health care. Would you say that’s impossible? It’s not.. I just watched a video on CNN – do you know 92% of Canadians would recommend their system? Did you know that I just saw a video of a lady who flew from Los Angeles to India.. for a surgery? Because in India it costs her $10,000 .. while here it would cost her $150,000. If our system is so great.. why would we have people travelling halfway across the world to get treatment in INDIA. Look up the stories yourself.. we spend twice as much money – and get worse results. This is not an Obama conspiracy to destroy America – it’s an attempt to fix the biggest problem America has.
We do spend more money but we get much better results. Why are you going back 3 weeks in a forum to post comments?
We don’t get better results. Life expectancy and general health are lower here than in other countries that spend less on health care. This country does have the best health care in the world – that is, it has it available to those who can pay for it. For the rest of us…that’s why we need a bill like this.
Oh and some of us are going way far back because one of these comments was linked on the main page as rated high.
this is were you have been duped(or are trying to dupe people)
Our life expectancy is lower then other countries based on car wrecks, and murders, neither have anything to do with health care. go to page 19 or 20 and you will see links from the CDC and WHO supporting this
Please sow an example of anyone in this country that has been denied health care.
Our life expectancy has been linked to our lifestyle of obesity as well. All of these things are unfounded but life expectancy is a scant way to judge quality of health care.
The issue isn’t about health care it’s about the fiscal responsibility. I have encountered many people who cannot afford quality health care or fall into bankruptcy and major hardship.
People get denied all the time of medical procedures. People sometimes get denied immediate trauma or emergency room care. But Basic and even advanced life support doesn’t cost that much.
- Firefighter/EMS first responder, Hospice volunteer
I dont know about you, but I think there are a few things that shouldn’t operate under the rules of capitalism.
For example:
- Police force (can you imagine having to look up the ratings of different police “companies” before calling for an emergency?)
- Fire protection (Hi my house is on fire. What are your rates?)
- Public Education (Everyone deserves a basic education, however lacking that education may be. Private education may be better quality in many cases, but you may as well eliminate the middle class if you get rid of public education)
Where do you draw the line between the concepts of a) everyone deserves free public education and b) NOT everyone deserves free health care?
This bill is not for free health care, this bill requires everyone to buy health insurance.
I, personally do not want competition in every facet of our society. Some topics should NOT be based on the bottom-dollar-line, and certain areas of my healthcare absolutely should NOT be one of them. Specifically, simply having or not having healthcare should not be a matter of commerce. And insurance representitives should not be responsibile for deciding whether I receive proper medical treatment.
Why do people state they do not want insurance companies or government bureaucrats deciding what medical treatment they get?
The treatment a person gets is what their doctor or other medical group recommends, the person agrees with, and what the person is willing to pay for it. Just because an insurance company or bureaucrat states the treatment is not covered does not indicate the person can not have the treatment. It just means the person must be willing to pay the non-covered expenses. I know this will impact poorer people more than richer, but so does life in general. We can’t all have the best of everything, else who would do all the work. :)
I can tell you why I don’t want the insurance companies to tell me what medical care they won’t cover after I paid $3,600 / year, year after year, and boom, when I get sick they won’t cover whatever ails me!
Why pay for health insurance if I end up paying for it anyway.
Oh, yes, I forgot, I can file for bankruptcy and then stick the insurance company with the bill so that they can raise their rates and have their other policy holders pay for it!
Do you like that idea better?
America, the richest country in the world forces its citizens into bankruptcy because of uncovered health insurance!
Ask any Canadian, Brit, German or Frenchman if he ever heard of anyone going bankrupt because of uncovered health care!! Their motto is everybody pays and everybody receives, that’s what I call a fair and equitable system.
Capitalism unchecked is greed and cheating. If we can get corporate lobbyist out of Washington, it would work.
Brutarius,
Nicely done! Let me add some anecdotal information. I currently use the VA for medical and have private dental insurance. My private dental care is far superior to the VA, in the work done and the follow-up. The VA manages the healthcare of approximately 7.8 million people, not all of whom served in any capacity with the armed forces. The VA is about numbers and the care is suspect. I was in the medical field during my 20 years in the Air Force and when money runs out, so too does care. Services will disappear. Just say no to national healthcare… if the economy picks up and I can make a better wage, I’m going private healthcare.
VA stories to be aware of and what to expect if the government runs it all:

sigh
Government isn’t trying to run all health care.. it doesn’t even want to.
like we are not paying for it now?! oh yeah we are paying for the great healthcare we get and then paying even more-over to give 100’s of BILLIONS in profits to many different companies….hahaha HELLLOOO??!?!? anyone there?
No.
Matter of fact you can’t have two plans.. you can only have one – at least I’m pretty positive I read that. You can either have the govt. plan – or a private one.. but not both at the same time.
And yes, Obama does want a single payer plan.. so do I really, but fact of the matter is that he gave up that idea long ago – it wasn’t practical considering public opinion and the state of our current system.
Please… enough with conspiracy theory and fear tactics. It’s obnoxious and it not only makes you look bad.. it makes America look bad. This is not an evil plot folks.. we’re just trying to reduce health care costs and also give people an affordable option for health insurance. How many times does it have to be said?
Ehh, wrong.
“Sure, I can keep my existing plan — but under this bill I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE PUBLIC OPTION ON TOP OF THAT!!!”
The public option is NOT being funded through taxes. The people that enroll in the public option will pay premiums that will fund it 100%. The bill actually PROHIBITS any of the money earned through taxes from contributing to the public plan!
You’re on this website, read the freaking bill!
what do you call it when the government takes your money? what do you call it when the government says give me your money or we will take your house your car and put you in jail? Most would call it a tax, What do you call it?
He just explained how you don’t have to pay for the public option – it’s paid for by people who join it. If you’re upset about taxes, this isn’t the bill to argue about.
where is the money for the 21% of population that will receive the public option for free going to come from? do you think the government is just going to print that money up out of thin air? Of course it is comming from taxes, and if you read lux’s post you will not that he makes up everything as he goes he has never shown a source for anything.
