It should also be noted that premature babies that do not survive in countries where they have nationalized health care are often not included in determining infant mortality rates (deaths of infants less than 1 year of age per 1,000 live births). For example, if a child in Hong Kong or Japan is born alive but dies within the first 24 hours of birth, he or she is reported as a “miscarriage” and does not affect the country’s reported infant mortality rates. This is how The New York Times gets away with comparing the US infant mortality rate to the infant mortality rate in Cuba. I don’t know who Dr. Linda Halderman is. I know what the W.H.O. is. Maybe you need a second opinion.
The problem is most of these americans chose not to have insurance. They chose their cell phones, satellite, and new cars over insurance. The only reason they have car insurance is because it is law and they can’t get tags and inspection without it. This is way I am against the healthcare reform. I pay my way, but when the times get hard, my cell phone and satellite will be the first to go. People make decisions and it should be their decision to make, and not made to be my obligation.

You talk about the war being illegal, do you not remember 9/11/2001? I can’t quite figure out how you Dem’s come up with it being an illegal war. It could not have advanced to a war without the congress and senate backing it all the way. Like you were told before, take some classes at the community college and learn more about government.
Figures a 68 year old woman expects me to foot her health care bills. We’re paying her social security, why not add one more thing to the list?
I worked and paid social security for 45 years. I still pay my own health insurance. What’s more I haven’t been to the doctor except for some shots in over a year. I am probably healthier than many younger.

The shortage you refer to was caused by a contamination issue in a British factory by one of the companies that supply flu vaccine to the U.S. So given the fact that there was a shortage and not enough vaccine to meet demand, why do you have an objection to the idea that those most vulnerable to the flu (think babies and the elderly here) would get the vaccines available? Would you prefer that the vaccines went to the highest bidder? Nobody likes the word “ration”, but what is the alternative when there is a shortage?
Regarding good examples of gov. healthcare, review the WHO rankings. You’ll find that most of the best healthcare in the world is provided by govs. By the way…U.S. is 37th on this list in spite of the fact that we spend more than any other country! Closer to home, Medicare is extremely popular. The VA may have problems, but you shouldn’t give up on government healthcare because of one badly run program.
On the WHO report the US is number one on treament, and recovery rates, IE making sick people better, to get us to 37 they in included suicides, murders, car wrecks and “fair” pricing. When it come to health care IE making sick people better we come in #1. It was the socialist administration category were we ranked low, ? what do car wrecks and murder have to do with health care?

We have the best survival and recovery rates regardless of income in the world
Neither the WHO database nor it’s 2009 report has statistics on Treatment and Recovery. However, I did use their database to compare us with Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, and Spain in Years of life lost to treatable issues like communicable and non-communicable diseases and injury and
we were a long ways from #1. Other WHO reports show that we are way ahead with some forms of cancer, and there is little question of our technological advancement and the quality of our primary care people. What drags us down statistically is the access to it.
This is the WHO rank sheet if you look at the the US we are #1 in the category Responsiveness,our level of responce, which is the making people who are sick better catigory. The other catigorys they include (and where we suck ) are:
“fairness in financial contributions” we rank 55
“overall health system performance(money spent/efficiency)” we rank 37
“overall Goal attainment”(WHO goals) 15
“life expectancy” (includes all deaths not just health care related) 24
you can see that it is the administrative and political rankings and life expectancy that bring us down, on the list The list states that we are #1 on on making sick people better. that is regardless of income.

you and others keep quoting the ranking nations were assigned in the 2000 report, they have not ranked nations since, I am simply referencing the document were the rankings that you guys keep quoting came from. How else should one respond,
you said “the US was ranked 24th for life expectancy based on the WHO report”, that report came out in 2000, and that the US ranked “34 for overall health care based on the WHO report from 2000”, why wouldn’t I reference the same report from 2000 to explain how they determined the rankings?

This is were they screw with the “health care” numbers as injuries they include car wrecks murders and suicides. if you take those out we smoke everyone but japan for life expectancy. I do not see how car wrecks murders and suicides can be used in health care rankings.
Americans drive more and have more people with cars, we have way more murders , Do you consider car wrecks, murders and suicides to be valid factors in the ranking of quality of health care?

You are confusing your threads and not reading the materials you are sourcing.
As I pointed out, the WHO has different tables. And we’re not doing as well as you say in any of them, in terms of Life Expectancy. Specifically, the Healthy life expectancy (HALE) estimate tables use comparable data to ensure cross-national comparability. They DO take those things into account.

The Constitution clearly defines the powers of the Federal Gov’t. The Tenth Amendment reserves all other powers to the states or to the people, explicitly limiting Congressional power.
“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
In other words: “If it’s not in there…butt out!”

Pandawa, Do you know how to generate jobs, tax revenue, or balance a check book? You shouldn’t talk about things you don’t understand. CA’s Governor is doing an outstanding job holding Dems accountable! Dem voters approved spending laws without accounting for risks of revenue reduction; home foreclosures, job losses, increased unemployment! The Gov and legislature made tough decisions; employee furloughs, layoffs, released misdemeanor prisoners, and reduced unsustainable services— AFTER multiple forms of taxes were increased. Liberal Dems can’t get their head around what happens when they spend, spend, spend!
