I don’t think I can even imagine deer hunting with Jesus :) What a concept.

Now I will probably be thinking about that when I deer hunt this year….damn :)

I don’t like to do this, but I feel this post from another site should be read by as many possible. Everyone needs to be aware of it.

Below are three related (they cross-reference) media pieces regarding the difficulties younger adults are having finding work that pays adequately to support themselves independently, let alone raise families or enjoy the same standard of living in which they were raised.

I have observed this myself among young men and women recently out of school trying to find work and start careers. Several members on this board have also posted of similar experiences. Another example is the link Matt posted the other day regarding newly minted lawyers having trouble finding work in the legal field – a part, in my view, of this larger trend. Of course this is mostly anecdotal, and I suppose I’ll hear contrary views. Also, the AFL-CIO (which conducted a survey which two of the articles discuss) is a political entity and as such of course has its own agenda. Also, I don’t see how passage of the Employee Free Choice Act will address the issue of jobs scarcity, which is a structural economic problem and may not be solveable in light of the debt-fueled overexpansion that seems to be unwinding.

That said, driving across state to a court hearing this morning, I happened to have a conversation with my boss on this very same topic. Other parents of young adults have expressed similar concerns to me. Many boomers are aware of this problem and deeply concerned about it, and I’m not posting this to bash boomers or start an inter-generational flame war. Generational tags are usually so sweeping as to be virtually meaningless.

But I think the issue is an extremely important one, and that this will become more apparent if we indeed experience another “jobless recovery.” (How such a thing could be termed a “recovery” at all is beyond me.) I have posted before that a large, relatively educated, relatively young, unemployed or under-employed demographic is a very dangerous thing to TPTB. This is a politically and socially combustible development, the consequences of which are difficult to foresee, but which could be severe.

There are 2 Bills in BOTH Houses. HR 3404 in Congress and basically for 13 weeks and S.1647 in the Senate for upwards of 20 weeks for high-jobless states in double-digits. Both bills will end up as One Bill and probably will be altered to reflect more weeks of EB for those states with high unemployment rates, but we really wouldn’t know until they return from summer break on Tuesday but be prepared for time wasted of at least 2wks because of the Healthcare Reform debate thats ongoing. Thats why everyone should be emailing those pre-printed forms to your Senators & Congress person that http://www.nelp.org has sent to all who are on their mailing lists, also the link is on comments #31 and if they get enough of these emails they may shock all of us & make the extension of EB the #1 issue right away.

No doubt, but they better start thinking about doing something fast because there is a big time bomb ticking now.

Maybe it is not the place for it……..but what are they really worried about to need this?

Bill would give president emergency control of Internet

Internet companies and civil liberties groups were alarmed this spring when a U.S. Senate bill proposed handing the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet.

They’re not much happier about a revised version that aides to Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, have spent months drafting behind closed doors. CNET News has obtained a copy of the 55-page draft of S.773 (excerpt), which still appears to permit the president to seize temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called cybersecurity emergency.

    I support that.

“At our heart, that’s what we have always been about: the future. In fact, our optimism has been the reason for our success; it has inspired us to create what did not exist. The best way to remember Senator Kennedy, to honor America’s workers and to ensure a bright future for working families is to continue the work we’ve done so valiantly.

So this Labor Day, let’s recommit ourselves to helping other workers organize and fight for their rights. Let’s work together to win meaningful reforms that ensure access to quality, affordable health care. Let’s stand together for a better economy with good jobs and the right to join a union without intimidation. Let’s dedicate ourselves to creating an America that lives up to its core values and its boldest promises for all of us".

If running out of unemployment wasn’t grim enough, today’s mail brought another blow, my bank is restructuring the tiers that they pay interest on, starting next month I’ll have even less interest income :( so my savings will be depleted faster than I thought, winter is around the corner aka heat bill too.

Look into an internet bank, such as Emigrant Direct. You find better rates than your current bank. This link to Fat Wallet Finance section lists all the banks/credit unions with updated interest %. If you go the latest page you find that information; click on the most current pages to see what others are saying:

So here I sit in CT with all that BS. My friends and I have been trying to prepare. The crazy weather killed 50 tomato plants with blight, and all the squash plants too. We lost most of the garden we planned on.

    We will survive though.

Asked how the Administration planned to create jobs in the stills tumbling economy

Solis first stressed efforts to help the jobless, including extension of unemployment insurance and the expansion of benefits to include part time workers.

Later, Solis added that the Administration planned to spend more than $700 million on job training, $500 million of which will go toward training in “green technology” and the balance toward careers in health care.

•Since the recession began, the number of people working — which differs from the number of jobs — has fallen 6,645,000; the number of jobs lost is 6,929,000.

Since the economy needs to create 125,000 jobs per month to keep up with population growth, the real hob gap is about 9,500,000 jobs since the recession began 20 months ago.

The length of the recession has affected continuing claims reports which track only basic 26-week benefits. As those benefits expire the numbers drop, even though long-term unemployed continue to collect under extended benefit programs

    Google:
    feeds.foxbusiness.com/~r/foxbusiness/markets/~3/ME0RipVZ43A/

Long-term unemployed are not counted in the continuing claims reports ..

The bill does not talk about EB. It is a Tier 3 of unemployment benefits(EUC) to extend by 13 weeks(for high UE states) and also extend the dates to apply past 2010 for all current extensions. It is for all unemployed but most urgent for those of us that have run out of benefits already.

Aug. jobless rate hits 9.7% with businesses ‘reluctant to hire’

“There’s usually a two-quarter lag” between the end of a recession and a recovery in the labor market. For now, “businesses are doing far less firing. But they’re still reluctant to hire.”
