Ohioians, I called ODJFS this week, since I have been out of money for a few weeks and still claiming online every week, and being denied , I wanted to ask WHY they are still taking all of my info on my claim like it was a EB claim when I am out of money. I was told, that IF a extension is in the works it could be a extension of EB.. and therefore they want to have all of the info because the will do BACK PAYMENTS. They have no work on if an extension goes through on what it will be EB or UC claim. They feel it could very well be EB.. My friend also called in a few weeks ago and was told the same. I think when this bill get to congress it will be rewritten to be a extension of EB and back payments will come.
BrokeInOhio…if they do actually make it retroactive, how can they require us to document our job applications? You and I might do this, but how will everyone else in OH know to do it…will they lose out on the money if they don’t? I would think they would need to notify potentially eligible individuals if this became a requirement to receive back pay.

Last paragraph of Section 3:
© Effective Date- The amendments made by this section shall apply as if included in the enactment of the Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2008, except that no amount shall be payable by virtue of such amendments with respect to any week of unemployment commencing before the date of the enactment of this Act.
Doesn’t sound retroactive to me. Payments would commence on the date the law is enacted. :(

it will be interesting to see the timing of the unemployment extension bill if it passes; politicians have two problems – 1) the amount of people losing benefits during the month of september; and 2) if an extension is passed for thirteen weeks or less, it runs out over the holidays again
hopefully the bill won’t get mired in the health care debate – health care reform is dead for awhile
I doubt that will happen…it will take too long for them to get that bill ironed out!

California drivers can’t line up to renew their licenses Friday. Wisconsin natives can’t order copies of their birth certificates. Georgia consumers will have to postpone registering complaints with state watchdogs. And stranded motorists in Maryland may have to wait a little longer for highway-department help.
Across the country, cash-strapped state governments are shutting down business for a day at a time to save money. State offices are shuttered Friday in California, Maine, Maryland and Michigan. Rhode Island had planned to join them until a judge on Thursday blocked its closure plan.
Some state agencies are closed in Georgia and Wisconsin, and most Colorado state offices will be shuttered on Tuesday. Other states, such as Arizona, have been trying to keep their operations open while furloughing thousands of workers.

In my opinion if I was in charge of a government the first thing I would do is start cutting the retirement benefits and have the employees pay more for their medical insurance so that we have public service every day for all the taxpayers. Right now it seems that the state employees are being protected by not laying them off and shutting down services to the taxpayers so many days a month. This is improper behavior for the states to be doing this instead of doing the right thing.
If only we could all have one of those government jobs. We would not even need to be in this place. But we are not all that lucky unfortunately.
HopefromCA, the Calif politicians still haven’t gotten the message. Last week the local water district board wanted to increased their pension by 25%. State employees are not laid off. They’re given a 3 month notice and offers for any other job openings during that time.
Maybe this will help another here. I think so.

The unemployment rate rose in August to 9.7%, with non-farm payroll employment dropping by 216,000 jobs, the lowest number of losses since August 2008. The bad news is that the unemployment rate is the highest in 26 years. However, on a brighter note, the number of job losses continues to slow down.
In addition, with so many unemployed workers – 1.5 million by the end of the year – running out of unemployment benefits the NELP is asking for help in getting an additional unemployment extension passed. HR 3404, the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Act of 2009. which would provide an additional 13 extended benefits is pending in Congress. Similar legistation, S 1647 has been introduced in the Senate.

well it was worth a try, my little weekly claim button was not there for me
push to claim this past week. what was different was that ODJFS has changed my
View claim summary/payment history readings. the benefit year start and end dates have changed to read begin date 11-23-08 and end date 11-21-09 and all monetery figures are at zero and the waiting week credited use to say "yes’ now says "No’ like it was when they put Teir two into effect in October and took 4-weeks to get things up and running [ recomputerizing, Blah,Blah,etc,etc.] Well, just have to wait and see what happens and keep up the job hunt, just thought I would let Ohioians know whats happening in the southwest sector of ohio with the ending of EB.

I am in NE OH and I have the same on my ODJFS account…no button for weekly application, same begin/end date, etc…
I guess all we can do now is wait for Congress (and cross our fingers)!!
I am hoping by the end of the month, there is a bill passed and funds dispersed!
