I would disagree that the more verbose and more separate parts thrown in, the more loopholes can be found, even with pages of ‘definitions’ and legislative intent thrown in.

It is also easier to make sure law sticks if it is done one simple bit at a time, like definitions in the California Business and Professions Code.

I could be wrong, but isn’t that STATE laws, not Federal? I thought such things were under the jurisdiction of the states, not the Federal Government?

President Obama is definitely pro-active in fighting Medicare fraud. In October alone were several incitements were made by multi-phase enforcement and regulatory effort knows as the “HEAT” initiative (Health Care Fraud Prevention and Enforcement Action Team), that is designed to reduce the potential for Medicare and Medicaid fraud.

You added too many zeros bkrueq, ebin was correct. $400 billion is indeed $400,000 million (as you stated above) = $400 * 10^9 = $400,000,000,000. Divided by 305 million (305 *10^6 or 305,000,000) = $1311. (Check google if you don’t believe me, http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=safari&rls=en&q=400+billion+%2F+305+million&btnG=Search&aq=f&oq=&aqi=) Think about it, how could each person have to pay an astounding $1,311,476, as you stated above? Thats more than a million dollars per person, thats not realistic numerically. Or you could multiply it out, $1 million (per person, approximately) * 305 million (people) = $305 trillion; $305 trillion is not $400 billion.

It’s only a tax if you aren’t covered. There is personal responsibility involved. My faith is in precedent.

My Great-Great Grandfather always said (he was an Irish Immigrant by the way) that the way to solve all of the economic problems was to take everyone’s money and put it into a big pot then distribute it out equally to everyone in the country. That way no one had more than anyone else.

When asked what would you do if some ended up with more than others?

“That’s easy.” he said, “Just put it all back in the pot and do it all over again.”

I can’t believe this GARBAGE legislation is making its way through congress when so many Americans are against it? Who are these senator’s, who are supposed to be representing American interest, listening to if not us? These kinds of politics make me SICK!! Our politicians have been bought off, obviously!!… but I suppose that’s old news. When will America be America again?

RESTORE THE REPUBLIC!!

NotAPundit 10/29/2009 11:34am

1990 pages of text, obfuscating a convoluted mess that is going to cost us more money for less care, and fewer choices.

What on earth makes congress think that they have the constitutional power to pass this in the first place?

thegiftedbee2 03/19/2010 11:00am

1.) 1/3 of the doctors have threatened to quit practice which means 32 million more people waiting in long lines for “quality” health care.

2.) I do not want rationed or socialized medicine. I don’t know of any Americans who run to Canada for health care.

And…
3.) I’m pro-life and shouldn’t be forced to pay for immoral women to have kill their babies.

BTW….November is coming and we will all know which way they voted. Remember they work for us, not the other way arround.

You are excluded from the coverage requirement for the time residing in foreign countries [which is the main source of the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion]. See page 299.

I can make my own healthcare decisions. I don’t need the government’s help. Another huge waste of our money.

It looks like this does. There is funding to fight waste and fraud, more penalties, and some enforcement in here.

How can you compare the cost of healthcare for sick babies with the cost of an abortion? How are the two related? 99% of babies aborted are perfectly healthy. They’re NOT aborted because of birth defects (except in very rare cases). They are aborted for the most part because their existence is inconvenient for someone else. We all know from common sense that an unborn baby is just that – a baby. It‘s exactly what each of us has been at some point. We were all unborn babies –then infants – then children -then adolescents -then adults. Fortunately for you, you were given the right to stay alive (to live long enough to take away that right from another ).

You have a legal right to an abortion, pay for it yourself. (A moral and ethical right is a different issue). You have to answer for what you do in your life. As for me, I don’t want to participate in any way, shape or form in the taking of an innocent life.

You don’t have the right to make me participate.

It is my belief that this Healthcare bill is a somke screen used by the Obama administration to bring socialism to this country. Period!

The key is that all of this can be done with out trampling on state rights and trampling on civil liberties. Wouldnt you agree that pushing the states to address these issues would be better than having the Federal Government regulate all of this?

Depends on what state you live in. In the state and County we live in, I think there are 6 different options to get ‘public’ health care if you don’t have private insurance.

Some have income limits, but some don’t…

President Barack Obama’s job approval rating has dipped below 50 percent nationally for the first time.
For the first time, we are actually reporting the fact that a majority of Americans disagree with Obama and his policies.

The Obama administration, as inexperienced as they are, are also holding back some of the TARP funds (which aren’t doing any good anyway) so that they can use some of the money to get the “Blue Dogs” on board with this healthcare bill and buy their votes with pork barrel project money to their districts and state(s). Simple extortion to say the least! My friends, we are now on our way to Socialism and the elimination of the Free Market System, better known as Capitalism. Sad, very sad!

bravo6lima, thank you for your service. I only wish I had the opportunity to serve in the same capacity you did. I know that we all do our part. Often times, sitting behind he desk, I wished I was out there with the war fighter, but in the end, what we all do is important. I wish you the best.

I’m scared of this bill. I tried to read it,but it is way beyond me.Too much lawyer speak.I’ve posted my fears here, only to be mocked or insulted by the “enlightened” left as if I’m some trog.I even had a “doctor” on this site mock me because I’m a combat vet.Nice.I’m scared of this bill because I DONT UNDERSTAND IT,and the folks who wrote it don’t seem to feel the need to put the bill in laymans terms for dum dums like me.What I do know of the bill is that it will give goverment much more power, power over your health, and possibly your life.Having worked for the feds, can you name ONE program they have run well?I can’t.I can’t support the bill if I can’t understand most of it.And even if you say this bill has nothing to do with liberty or secuity,at it’s base it does.I’ll take the risk of liberty over secuity anyday. It seems that most folks wanting this bill have a hard time taking care of thier own.

Think about what you are saying. You want to take your health care financial coverage away from someone with whom you have legal recourse in the courts and give it to big government who you cannot sue and who has the power to fine you and/or put you in jail. How stupid is that? They both will control cost by denying you services

Here’s the scariest part… our national debt is expected to reach nearly 19 Trillion by 2014! That is nearly 100% of this country’s GDP!

The point is, Congress is biting off more thank it can chew. We cant afford this kind of reckless spending and it needs to stop NOW!

If you don’t have any civic duty or compassion for others then do it for your own selfish pocket book. Health care will cost you money no matter what happens, but to ensure better health for others will reduce your costs. Think of the anti smoking campaigns and remember that smoking cost all Americans money. Healthcare as a right is a concept that I support, but if you don’t feel that your family should have that right then I only hope you don’t have to face a major health crisis within your family without government help. No one is asking for a welfare check, we just want the best system for the money we already spend.

Pelosi-Care” … the latest monstrous version of ObamaCare (call it the daughter of ObamaCare) may come to a hasty stealth-vote hours from the time you read this letter.

That’s because Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, is moving heaven and earth to ram this socialist takeover of our health care system down our throats before anyone has a chance to really read it. And, believe it or not, Pelosi-Care is actually worse than all the previous versions of ObamaCare. It’s a move toward government control of your health care, government domination of your life and the eradication of your God-given liberties. As economist Ben Stein pointed out on FOX News, the real goal behind Pelosi-Care is "to bring big business to its knees… and to get total social control

The Declaration of Independence is not a legal document in this country. It is just that, a declaration of our independence. It holds no legal precedent and therefore no legal standing.

Might I also add, that no where in the Constitution does it grant the right of the government to empower it’s self. This is not how the founders of this country intended our country to be.

I would also like to highlight a simple phrase “pursuit of happiness”. Do you wonder why the Declaration of Independence doesnt say “guaranteed happiness”? Simply put, the Government cannot in any sense guarantee your happiness. Simply affording you the constitutionally guaranteed rights is the only thing that the government can do to enable your pursuit of happiness. No person or entity can guarantee happiness.
