    I completely agree!!!

I’m in favor of FULL reparation only for those individuals that are still living and were enslaved. While this was a sad and reprehensive chapter in our country’s history, no other persons other than those who ACTUALLY suffered the pain and indignity of slavery should receive compensation.

Excellent point. I would add that living relatives of of anyone who might be entitled to reparations under your guidelines will NOT be able to claim the benefits ever. I can see the outcry if a relative died a month before your form of the bill passed. “WE’RE ENTITLED!” seems to be the battle cry fostered by the Democrats these days. This legislator has introduced this bill every year for the entire time he has been in office (that’s what, 19 or so years?). Maybe it’s time for him to be voted out of office for wasting our time and money on his continued tilting at windmills.

debating this would be the biggest waste of time out of anything i’ve seen presented yet this year…

  • hank 02/09/2009 7:39pm

If this goes through, the Native Americans should get more reparations. Not to do so would be a travesty.

  • beanwarrior 02/10/2009 6:28am

Sad note on history, but it is over with.

Ladies and Gents, I implore you… WRITE TO YOUR REP IN CONGRESS. This has come before congress before, but never before have we witnessed mind-numbing Liberalism taking hold of our society before. I fear for our nation.

  • Anonymous 02/12/2009 5:19am

what about the irish that were the 1st slaves of our country?? are we going to give them reparations too? It would only be fair. And if you are going to give reparations you might as well give to everyone because we all have ancestors who were slaves at one time or another. And what about the Native American….we took THEIR land and made them slaves. Not only that but the majority of African Americans who were slaves were sold by their own people or came here willingly. This is absolutely ridiculous. It’s racism all over again… only this time you are giving benefits to african americans and no others. Let the past be the past and move on!

I would call it “reverse discrimination”.

  • Comm_reply
    JonathanDS 02/15/2009 11:33am

I would call it regular old racism, because “reverse racism” implies that normal racism only comes from whites.

We also forced all native americans to go to re education camps where all sorts of TERRIBLE things happened and this was all happening while African Americans we’re having there first votes. Check out Grant’s Peace Policy and what else he did in office. He started a reeducation system for Native Americans while giving the first Army secured voting stations for African Americans and it wasn’t until the 70’s that Native Americans we’re introduced in our history books as what they were and not the barbarian that was propagandaed. I think this bill is a joke and We must get in contact with our represantitives.

I, as an American woman born in 1979, (whom never owned nor desired to own a slave-of any race) acknowledge the fundamental injustice, cruelty, brutality, and inhumanity of slavery in the United States in the 1800s (At least thats what my HISTORY teacher told me).

There you go. ALL SAID AND DONE.

ps. I feel kinda foolish, because all these years I was under the impression that WELFARE was reparations. How will I ever look in the mirror again? sigh

If there are reparations to be had, I need some for being drafted into the military back in 1951. That was an injustice.

It seems to me, that the democrats try to foster racism in order to preserve their distinct advantages with reguards to the minority demographic.

Now you have it. After the Civil Rights Act of 1964 America thought it would have a color neutral country where race wouldn’t count…But the Dems decided to make a patchwork quilt of America of every conceivable ethnic group/racial group to divide them into voting blocks and keep them as victims forever. It worked.

  • Anonymous 02/17/2009 3:08am
I echo GulfWarVet & JohnathanDS. And why do we vote these “bozos” in? Like we have the money to even do a “study!” We will have to pay more in taxes to fund this “study”, but that doesn’t bother Democrats since it seems, they don’t pay their taxes.

Just exactly why do you righties fear such a proposal?
Doesn’t quite fit with your "America can do no wrong mantra?

  • Comm_reply
    JonathanDS 02/18/2009 10:09pm

“Righties” don’t fear the proposal, we think that it is stupid as there are no former slaves or slave owners around to collect or pay out. Libs need to stop wasting time and money with retarded bills (like this one). After all, it is my money they’re playing with. Any way, can you think of one good reason to buy into this crap? C’mon, just one.

Simply put so you might be able to understand: this is just another attempt to extract money from people who have been paying and paying and paying for all the programs that have been directly aimed at helping the black community. Nobody alive today in America was a slave in the colonies or the country. Nobody alive today ever owned a slave. Virtually everyone in America understands it was a horrific way to treat other humans and is sorry it happened, but it did. Restating the black American victimhood does absolutely nothing to change history or to make the future better for black or white America.

I guess the 700,000 Union dead — including my ancestors — represented just the down payment.

  • dk1028 02/17/2009 1:12pm

Why don’t we just borrow a huge sum of money from say China, we all go on government subsidies, and we call it reparations.

Reparations is about more than slavery.

    Its about that
plus 100 or more years of Jim Crow
and government sponsored (on the fed and local level)terrorist acts.

The lack of protection by the fed and local governments.

the breaking up of families etc….

    laugh now…cry later.
considering whats going on in the country these days…its time for white America to start crying, you all have had enough laughs on the back of the poor and people of color.

Your right, slavery was very wrong. So, I tell you what, you find a slave and I’ll find a slave owner and we’ll make them shake hands. Oh, wait, there aren’t any left!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am not paying the government to pay people for nothing. Should we expect england to give white americans free sh*t? NO!!! Even though our forefathers were misstreated, we don’t want or deserve a hand out for it. Now our WW2 vets deserve thanks atleast, but the Europeans have convinced themselves, over the years, that we didn’t really help that much.

In sumation, I will not now, nor ever feel responsible for slavery in the 1800s.

  • acman 02/19/2009 5:49pm

How can racism die when congress keeps blaming the people that had nothing to do with it.Start with the people that sold the slaves to the slave runers. But they were black too.

  • danielsean85 02/20/2009 6:21am

Why should we pay for reperations to be made to people who don’t know the lash of the whip personally? It is really scary when you think about it this will probably go passed and the american people will still be labeled as coward racist but the first African American president was elected that was a huge step If we were as racist as the media makes us out to be than there would have been something like “crosses across the country” or he wouldnt have beat a woman for his nomination. Once we sign this check we’re opening the door to so much more… Native Americans for re education camps, chinese for being held in camps after the bombing of pearl harbor, Irish need not apply signs, vietnamese for being called chinese so many times by the white man, Mexican Americans becasue they had to pass a test to become legal immigrants and Mexican Nationals becasue we tried to stop them from coming in illegally.

  • Anonymous 02/23/2009 1:20pm

Don’t forget the Japanese and others interned during WW 2. Might as well fold up the country, sell it all off, and pass out the money to everyone who claims some past calamity. Hell, I could come up with something to claim abuse.
