Can any one say “DEPRESSION”
YES,WE ARE IN DEEP DEPRESSION,BUT THEY DON’T WANT TO TELL.THE CONGRESS PROBABLY DIDN’T THINK WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPENS TO THE 99ERS IF THEY DON’T GET MORE WEEKS OF EXTENSION.THE WELFARE OFFICE WILL BE CROWDED,AND THOSE THAT CAN’T GET ANY WALFARE BECAUSE THEY ARE SINGLE OR DON’T HAVE ANY KIDS THEY WILL BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET,WITHOUT ANY OPTION.
YES THE WORD IS “DEPRESSION”
My Tier IV ran out 3 weeks ago….not sure what I will do now.
Keep certifying.
My state has Tier 4, however the unemployment rate in Texas is 8.2%,it has to be 8.5% and over for them to give us more unemployment. This still presents an obstacle. So what do we do now? Something other than Tiers must be done.

Here is an article http://worldnewsvine.com/2010/04/unemployed-under-employed-plan-operation-flood-washington-mayday-sos/ worth reading – it includes links to the petition at change.org demanding Tier 5 http://www.change.org/petitions/view/the_99ers_need_a_tier_v_added_to_unemployment_benefits if you haven’t signed it, please do! Also link to website http://joblessunite.yolasite.com/m-a-y-d-a-y.php that suggests May 1st is the day to flood Wash DC with our letters/resumes/lists of jobs applied for
For everyone who is fighting for additional weeks/Tier 5, please call Congress today and ask if they will be adding additional weeks to this bill.

Senate Democratic leaders are preparing to turn to a package of tax extensions for individuals and businesses as early as May 20 providing the House passes a Senate-amended version of extenders legislation (HR 4213) that the House had approved earlier.
The House is slated to act on the measure on May 19, but revenue offsets continue to pose a problem, and negotiations between the House and Senate taxwriters remain ongoing.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said on May 17 that he expects to wrap up work in the next few days on a financial regulatory reform bill (Sen 3217) and then turn to the extenders package with an eye on final approval before beginning the week-long Memorial Day recess that starts on May 31. The extenders bill also includes a long-term extension of unemployment benefits and health insurance for the unemployed, as well as a five-year delay of scheduled cuts in reimbursement payments to…
doctors who provide services through Medicare and Medicaid.
Taxwriters need to come up with approximately $50- to $60-billion in revenue offsets, according to some estimates. House Ways and Means Chairman Sander Levin, D-Mich., had said earlier that he expected to use a phased-in change of the tax treatment of carried interest, currently used to compensate investment fund managers. The provision would raise approximately $20 billion, but the Senate has yet to sign off on the proposal. Other revenue raisers under consideration include changes in pension funding rules, various tax-compliance provisions, and funds derived from an increase in the oil spill trust fund excise tax. Lawmakers are also reportedly considering requiring certain S corporation partners, primarily lawyers and lobbyists, to pay the Medicare tax on their earnings, which would raise nearly $10 billion.
Cost issues and revenue offsets have also posed problematic for a planned jobs incentive package that Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., wants to soon mark up in committee. Republicans are demanding assurances that Senate Democratic leaders will address the estate tax dilemma, which is set to revert to its original 55-percent tax rate at the end of 2010. Baucus has been negotiating with ranking committee member Charles E. Grassley, R-Iowa, Senate Minority Whip Jon Kyl, R-Ariz., and Finance Committee member Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark., on how to proceed on the estate tax. Both Kyl and Lincoln have been pushing to set the exemption level at $5 million for individuals and reduce the tax rate to 35 percent. Kyl has proposed several revenue offsets to Baucus, but the two lawmakers remain at odds and have not reached an agreement on how to pay for the bill.

I live in CONN but worked in Rye Brook, NY for 5 years. I was “laid off” at age 62 and have collected the maximum unemployment benefit of 99 weeks. I have "listed " myself with 13 Recruitment firms—they refuse to send me on ANY interview—which I am totally qualified for.
Why is there not PASSED Legislation to assist those that have exhausted their 99 weeks of benefits??
P S I have had many, many job interviews (on my own) only to find out that a 30 year old was offered the position.
“recruitment firms” suck. When I wanted to quit my job they couldn’t help me. I knew I was plenty qualified (in fact thats why I went into business for myself and succeeded, so it worked out good)

Good for you Josh, sincerely, I hope your business booms! Recruitment firms just skim off your salary.
Well, I found out why unemployment went down, when you reach your limit of weeks they will not let you file unemployment even though you have exhausted your moneys, you are still unemployed and they should allow us to be counted as unemployed instead of making the numbers look better. We still do not have a job and now we have no voice in the numbers. This is unacceptable. We should be counted and not discarded, I have been actively everyday for 20 months looking for a job, even the minimum wage jobs but they will hire a high school student before me because I have to much job history, but I need a job. Add more weeks, we are looking for jobs, there are none out there because the economy is not coming back fast enough and if there is not more weeks added, more people are going to loose their houses and the economy will not recover. The government helped out the banks and automotive industry’s, other country’s, when our country’s people need help also.
The government won’t ever allow folks like you to be included in the unemployment numbers because they have to maintain the lie to the American people. “See? We’re making progress! Unemployment’s going down! Pay no attention to those folks who can’t collect money and are STILL out of work. They don’t count, really.” And folks believe that tripe.
The American people are apparently not “too big to fail” when it comes to helping out our legal citizens when they fall on hard times.
That’s an awfully big leap of logic. He stated his is not included in the numbers. You don’t need to go connecting lines where none exist, assuming that its a conspiracy.
Just because he couldn’t file for unemployment doesn’t mean they base the unemployment numbers strictly based on the number of people receiving unemployment checks.
How do you propose they know who got a job who is no longer receiving benefits? They get their counts from receiving the claim forms each week that confirms people have not found work. Once you’re cut off unemployment pay, you don’t receive claim forms, and thus, they can’t assume that you have or haven’t found work. I highly doubt they can claim dubious or unknown statuses as unemployed. Thus, I think vmo1969 might actually be on to something. Think about it.
I ran out of Unemployment in March. I did not receive the full 99 weeks due to the clerical error when applying. I only received 79 weeks. I was advised to keep certifying till advised differently or until I find a job. Hopefully, everyone is doing this so they know who is still unemployed and being counted in the statistics.
really can you prove this?
Excuse me Josh, but if you’re paying attention to the people who report these numbers, they have admitted that the numbers literally are based on the number of people receiving checks, and not on the actual number of people who are unemployed. These are their own words not ours, therefore I am not a conspiracy theorist, I am a conspiracy realist. I heard the people who report these things say that this is happening so I understand this to be a real conspiracy perpetrated on the American people.
I agree. The official unemployment numbers that are reported do not include what are referred to as “discouraged” who have given up looking for work. It also does not include those that are grossly under-employed and working for substantially less than they originally were making for the simple sake of taking a job. These facts are not conspiracy theories and there is plenty of information out there to validate that the “real” rate of unemployment is hovering around 20% nationally when the “discouraged” and the “under-employed” are counted in addition to the so-called “available work force”.
What other basis are they getting their information from then? Please enlighted those who are still unemployed after 2 years and can no longer collect unemployment and who still do not have jobs.
In America’s economic hay-day (50’s, 60’s, 70’s) small business drove 70% of the American workforce. (Neighbor helping neighbor) Obama is creating a good environment for the small business to come back and create enough jobs for Americans, however, China and other outside influences to our currupt congress isn’t helping a thing. …How about this as a solution: we have over-filled jails across America; how about instead of serving years, the prisoners serve work hours (based on productivity, of course)in factory jobs… No work, no time off your sentence!… How many millions of jobs would this create? … How fast would republicans shoot it down? … “too much government.. it would hurt the world economy” (china)
This all is a statement by the super-rich (that fund the republicans campaigns) that the American worker will work for less money! Ronnie Reagan and the republicans destroyed the unions (the voice of the people) and our wages will stay the same as the cost of living will continue to inflate. Also, the corporate loopholes Reagan put in drained billions of dollars of taxes that would have been collected each year from the super-rich. (America would have still been an economic power-house!) The bank bail out was approved in a matter of hours, yet the republicans (who all voted yes) all bash Obama for doing it! It did save millions of American jobs! Remember a republicans main purpose is to act as reverse robin hoods (steal from the middle-classed to feed the super-rich!) They make a fine living by being the corporate salesmen. They destroyed the Americans way of life and will not help us! … good luck fellow American … we need a revolution!
