I’m sorry if I misunderstood you. Saying “Not the way he is miss-using our money and putting policies in place that are SOCIALIST in effect.” I just assumed that you thought social benefits that the government has provided us, ie. Medicare, Medicaid. Aid to Dependant Families and all other programs like it were socialist. You are entitled to your opinion. I would just like people to give the man a chance. 18 months is not enough time to undo almost a decade of spending. In 50 years the 100,000 thousand dollars the Reps say our children will owe won’t be worth 100,000 thanks to inflation. Let’s agree to disagree. Good luck to you and God Bless.

7 Days to Be Heard!!!

MY FELLOW 99ERS!!! Please contact your local news stations!! All you have to do is call… some are not aware of the 99ers situations…they have been broadcasting about the unemployment extension yet some do not know how bad a Tier 5 extension is needed for the 99ers that are suffering…the media is the only way to get Congress’ attention!!! Please call them and let them know how important it is for us to be heard right now!! WE HAVE 7 DAYS TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!!

pattyddddd 06/21/2010 12:54pm

Ok…so they say they want to add drug testing! Well wouldn’t that mean that they would have to add procedures and places to take this test. Oh My!!! does that mean it would take more weeks to complete this process. Lets not forget that this process may or maynot have flaws. If they want to add this process it’s fine and dandy but do it in the next wave and approve what we need now!!!! I’m a little tired of these politican playing with our lives!

“What happened to the American innovative spirit?” Well I tell ya- "they squashed it right out of the common man- shipped it over seas- promised plenty and then forclosed on it. I do agree that the Govt should have been there to protect “The People” from those crooked, lying, bastards at GM and Goldman-Sachs but they (Bush and friends) were to busy making money from crushed innovative American Spirit. No one was watching and no one could touch them- thank God that will be different now. If they hadn’t given my job away with trade agreements, I could feed, clothe and feed myself. But maybe your right, the 60 hours I worked for 40 hours pay was me sitting on my ass- right before my dealership hit the GM hit list and closed, when you ask did that happen….right after GM got my tax dollar bailout. The rich intend to stay that way at the expense of people like us. We are but pawns to the 60 naye sayers- afterall,I am not nearly as important as a wallstreet bank. I’m just some American

It was #4213 that got voted yesturday sehall57.. It reinstates all FOUR tiers. Puts everything back just as it was before, just extends the deadlines through Nov 30th 2010..

Not sure where you got that information your talking about. Its on your states unemployment website or something?

mikeqhawaii 07/21/2010 10:38am

you know, prior to all this i was very much an independent. now i just don’t know…..these republicans are like spoiled children in a grocery store. i’m amazed i haven’t turned on c-span to see them rolling around on the floor, kicking, screaming, holding their breath until they turn blue in the face because they can’t have something they asked for. what will they possibly gain by stalling the vote until 9:00 pm this evening? it’s not going to get them anything. it’s only going to hurt the people who need this aid who aren’t caught up in the power struggle.

what’s worse is what i feel will happen next. no matter what happens in november, the democrats will still hold enough seats to do exactly what the republicans are doing right now. translation. nothing gets done. at a time when we need the house and congress to move and make decisions there will be another clot in the system. i’m beyond frustrated with my government….and ashamed.

Finally, someone speaking about what I have been saying for years. No one truly represents my beliefs because they have to try and figure out what is in the middle of all the people they represent and then they have to vote with the side of the money they get from backers. Talk about outsourcing jobs. Think of the money this government could save in salaries alone! I had enough long ago with politicians saying they would do such if voted for, and turn around and do no such thing. Webster’s dictionary should change the definition of politics to bullshitting.

This in from HuffPo, just now:

The GOP is once again blocking a bill to let unemployed move from One Tier to the Next AND TO ALLOW AN ADDITIONAL 53 WEEKS OF UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS FOR LONG TERM UNEMPLOYED.

Read it for yourself: at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/25/senate-begins-game-of-chi_n_513620.html

I hope the GOP knows that they’re doing. FINALLY, I hope the GOP knows that there are many of their own constituents out of work. They really need to get over themselves with this crap!

Post this story about the GOP anywhere you can. On any forum you visit and pass it along to your friends and family so they can in turn pass it along. The country needs to know what the GOP stands for and that’s “NOTHING.”

oneofthe30millionunemployed 07/13/2010 6:08am

The Senate isn’t even talking about the extension and it’s not even on their schedule for this week. I’m starting to wonder if they are even going to pass this at all. They think everyone’s just going to disappear into a black hole and forget about it or something. Unbelievable!!!!

I am blaming both sides…maybe all those up on Capital Hill should have their pay cut down to min. wage and try to live on that and provide insurance for their families…I bet if they had to do that for 1 month…they all would change their tunes…I cannot believe we actually elect these yahoos….I don’t care what side of the fence their on be it Rep or Dem…I don’t trust any of them…I voted for Obama hoping to see some difference from the last 8 years…and I am sorely disappointed..

They are going to drag this on for hours. Because they stripped this bill with nothing in it now and only a few getting deadline extention next week everything will look great in the unemployemnt figures because there are more who exhausted than who were kick off of the systems. The was a major mistake done in this Bill and I am afraid the few are going to pay like the Millions and millions who exhausted their benefits. Good luck to ALL Unemployed

danm1 05/22/2010 3:08am

I live in CONN but worked in Rye Brook, NY for 5 years. I was “laid off” at age 62 and have collected the maximum unemployment benefit of 99 weeks. I have "listed " myself with 13 Recruitment firms—they refuse to send me on ANY interview—which I am totally qualified for.
Why is there not PASSED Legislation to assist those that have exhausted their 99 weeks of benefits??
P S I have had many, many job interviews (on my own) only to find out that a 30 year old was offered the position.

I have been working since I was 16 (now 42) and have been out of work since 2008. I worked for a residential real estate title and escrow company and prior thereto, in law firms in the capacity as a legal secretary. Let me tell you that I also am struggling to make ends meet and to find a job. I am noticing the same legal secretarial jobs being reposted every other week, and I am beginning to wonder if those companies are getting some kind of a kick back for advertising!! BTW, most jobs are posting, “must speak Spanish”!!! WTF!!!!I applied to fast food chains also, and I am sure they toss out my application too. It is so difficult NOT to be in a constant state of depression. I have sold ALL my valuable possessions that I had worked so hard for throughout the years just to make sure my dogs and I are fed and have a roof over our heads. I pray for everyone during this desperate time..hang in there all.

WHAT CAN I SAY??? THIS HAS BEEN SUCH A LONG, DEMEANING, DEGRADING, HARROWING PERIOD OF SUFFERING AND WAITING AND BEING USED AS PAWNS BY THE PEOPLE WE ELECTED INTO GOVERNMENT POSITIONS!! MANY OF THEM SEEMED TO TAKE DELIGHT IN WATCHING US WALLOW AND BED. IT IS NOT BAD ENOUGH WHAT OUR EMPLOYERS HAVE DONE TO US, SOME UNNECESSARILY, BECAUSE WHERE I WAS EMPLOYED, THEY FIRED 25 OF US AND THEN REPLACED US ALL. THEN THEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO TRY TO BLOCK OUR U/C BENEFITS AND WE ALL HAD APPEAL HEARINGS AND WON!!! YET THIS IS ALLOWED BECAUSE PA IS AN AT-WILL-STATE!!! WE NEED TO KEEP PUSHING FOR MORE EXTENDED BENEFITS UNTIL THIS GOVERNMENT HELPS US TO FIND JOBS, OR MAKES LAWS TO KEEP CORPORATIONS/EMPLOYERS FROM DOING TO PEOPLE WHAT THEY DID TO ME!!!! YOUR SELF-ESTEEM IS CRUSHED, YOU BECOME ANTI-SOCIAL, YOU GET PHYSICALLY ILL, YOU FEEL WORTHLESS AND IT JUST SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN TO ANYONE. THEY CARE MORE ABOUT ANIMALS/WILDLIFE/MARINE LIFE SUFFERING THAN THEY DO ABOUT HUMAN BEINGS!!!!!

What state are you from? In some high unemployment states, there is an extra 20 weeks after Tier 4, known as State Extended Benefits. We have it here in PA. After I get the last six weeks of Tier 4, I’ll move onto this now since the extension gives back the full federal funding for state extended benefits. Hopefully I find work before then.

Your July 31st date is irrelevant to the situation. If they pass this and still make it retroactive like they are supposed to then you will get the back pay for the weeks you have missed whether it is before July 31st or not. When you re-file on July 31st for your new benefit year it will deny you at first because you haven’t worked recently but just ignore that and if the date extension is passed you will move on to Tier 2 anyway.

Nothing is EVER said about the BILLIONS that we are giving to AFGHANISTAN – trying to convert them to DEMOCRACY – when that won’t EVER HAPPEN – BECAUSE IT IS A RELIGIOUS WAR. As soon as we leave, if we ever leave – remember Haliburton/Chency is involved – just like Haliburton/Cheney/BP is involved in the Gulf – things will go back just the way they were. They will be “blowing up” each other AGAIN!!!!! We don’t have any business being in Afghanistan. Would we allow them to come into our country and do what we are doing in their country? The leader of Afghanistan is having meetings with the Taliban and we are giving them BILLIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There, now we can “Pay as you Go” the Unemployment Benefits that are so desperately needed in the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

ladias 06/17/2010 12:32pm

I made minimum wage as a waitress and loved my job. But when my mother was diagnosed with stage 4 brain, and lung cancer, I quit to take care of her. When she passed away I started receiving unemployment benefits. I have been searching for a job for a year and six months now, and still nothing. The unemployment I receive gets me buy month to month, and without it I don’t know what I am going to do. I believe congress should make a decision now!!! Help us already!!

Can you belive this article, John Boehner should be ashamed of himself. Want money ask him to share some of his compaign momey with you. Does he seriously think after the Reps blocked this bill every way they could that 15million people will vote Rep i Nove. I am independent who previously voted Rep. NOT ANY MORE.
Sensing victory in November, and eager to cut into the Democrats’ cash edge, House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) has pledged to give $1 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee in the next month.
Boehner was joined by a number of other Republicans on Wednesday morning in pledging huge transfers of money to the NRCC, the committee charged with helping Republicans take back the House.
Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-Texas) delivered a $250,000 check to the committee, while Rep. Ed Royce (R-Calif.) kicked in another $100,000.

This country needs some republicans to step up and do what is fair for the citizens of this country and vote to pass this bill. They’re supposed to be leaders but are following the commands of their political party for reasons that don’t add up for most Americans. This republican party is sticking together on this bill like a religious cult! Someone needs to step up, be an individual, and vote yes. I’m sure after doing so it will almost guaranty a re-election from the hundreds of thousands of people following this bill. I used to be a republican until George Bush JR. took office. He totally jacked this country over and everybody knows it and should admit to this. Republicans have no sense of anything but their own interest not of the people, no matter how ridiculous the argument. I’m ashamed to have once supported the republican party after watching the senators make such a weak argument and still have so many followers. Talk about the deaf following the blind. Can Obama vito this?

Unemployment Insurance has been the only thing keeping me afloat throughout these difficult times, and as I sit hear and read, I see that I am not alone. The reality is that it is doubtful that this bill will pass in its entirety this week..because they are too busy worrying about how to pay for the bill instead of worrying about the lively-hoods of hundreds of thousands of unemployed Americans. However, I believe that the only way the Unemployment Insurance extension will pass..is if it is brought before the senate as a “stand-alone measure”. I also believe that this was brought up by a Republican Senator after last weeks vote and it was declined. I just want to urged the senate to put all personal agendas aside and actually think of the thousands of people that need HELP!. People are losing their homes, cars, and sanity. It really hurts me to see that a country as great as this one, that prides itself on democracy and being the voice of the people, is failing miserably at both.
butterflyangel 07/21/2010 2:56pm

can someone plz tell me where it stands right now has the second vote happened yet, has it been passed to the house or are the republicans pulling their bs with us again. I cant watch it on c-span as i have been because my tv has been shut off because i couldnt afford to pay the bill.

I think that’s only in the House. Should be both, but I believe they do so since there’s so many more House Reps than Senators to track votes on.
