Corporate tax rates are already much lower than they are for individuals. I read recently that corporations pay, on average, 12%. Corporations have a ridiculously good deal in this country. Taxes are not about “punishment,” they’re about contributing to public infrastructure and public amenities, and corporations are not paying even a fraction of their fair share at this dismal point in our history. The really sad thing is that, as a country, we’ve been here before, where private interests clobbered public good, but I guess we have to learn this lesson yet again. I’ve already learned it, so can I get an exemption, pretend that I’m not in this with everybody else, as the conservatives seem to want to do?

AnnaSchaefer 06/25/2010 1:11am

This is totally inhumane! Who in there right mind wants to stay on unemployment? This is only a backlash slap in the face to the democrats and President Obama for passing the healthcare reform. We need to supply jobs first. What are these people suppose to do? Live on the streets? We always seem to have enough money for earthquake victims in different countries. America is always there first to offer help. What a disgrace that we can not and won’t help our own people first. I bet you are the same republicans who wanted u.s. money to help BP in the disaster they caused. This is a national disgrace, caused by you people that were voted in office to help us. You all should be very ashamed of yourselves. And definitely remembered on election day.

Everyone – relax. Something will pass in the next few weeks or heads will roll on both the Democrat and Republican sides. This whole thing is just “theater”. Keep calling, writing, posting… contact the news organizations and let them know what’s going on and that you want them to cover it. It’s not over until it’s over.

Yes, take that money from NASA and the thousands that work for it and the companies that have contracts with them. That should help the unemployment rate. Take it from science and knowledge. I hate that we spend so much money inspiring kids to become engineers and scientists that never do anything for society. I would rather that we keep the nerds in other countries.
We would all be better off if we were a little less educated and interested in the universe we are a part of. What has it done for us lately? And nothing ever came from things like the moon landing or learning to orbit the earth. We don’t need the technologies used for stupid things like jet airliners, communications satellites and GPS. Even if we did, everything important about space has already been discovered and used. There is nothing new up there; it’s just a little empty space with a couple of lame planets floating around.
This is the short-sighted idiocy that prevents solutions from even being discovered.

Watching C-Span. Repubs want to add a rider to keep the death tax at 0. At a cost of 1 trillion over the course of so many years. The death tax is primarily for the rich. I thought they wanted to keep the deficit low.

by the way, are you aware that the fewer people who are employed, the less currency flows into our economy and the less taxes can be collected. I would be much happier if the goverment would force American corporations to bring back our jobs, then we wouldn’t need this. But Conservative Republicans don’t want to go against the big bussinesses that contribute to their campaighns. If you want someone to blame, look at the bigger picture. look at all the politicians who allowed and even encouraged outsourcing, like Reagan and Bush Senior and Junior as well as countless others in congress, most of whom are conservative republicans.

I cannot believe they are doing this to us. I am unemployed, and I am disgusted by their recent proposal to force me to take a drug test. It is degrading, insulting, and humiliating. I have never taken drugs, and I never will, but in the spirit of compromise, I offer my own proposal: I will submit to Hatch’s drug testing after he and every other Republican tell me how many hookers they’ve spent our tax dollars on this week you filthy hypocrites. Wanna reduce this nation’s debt? RESIGN!!! Not paying your salaries will help a lot and they can give that money back to us! And don’t worry about the recession hitting you; I’m sure all your corporate and Wall Street buddies will continue to line your pockets for years of faithful service to them and not to us.

Where the help for the Long-term Unemployed who have exhausted Tier 3 already and Tier 4 by the end of March .. This Bill only extends the deadline ..

I think it’s called. You didn’t scratch my back so I won’t scratch yours. The Repubs are now trying to add riders to the bill they didn’t want Dems to do before.

Well isn’t this just great!!! We will all have health care and no jobs for it to take effect in… I just love my goverment don’t you? I don’t need health care I need Food, shelter and clothing and being unemployed and no more funds to help just makes my day……..I’ll even bet that all those great people that stayed late on a SUNDAY to vote all got overtime!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wake up Washington,, we need money more than health care. I really believe that if everyone who is unemployed were working with good pay would really look at the HEALTH CARE issue different, I’ll feed my family before I go to the Doctor………..

Jess01869 06/22/2010 7:10pm

Senator Orrin Hutch wants to drug test the unemployed…just got to love this guy’s idea on how he proposes to actually fund these tests. Hatch said the test would be paid for with money saved by not paying benefits. “Any monies left over would go to help the states with the drug testing and so forth, and if there’s any surplus it goes to pay off the deficit,” he said
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/06/22/orrin-hatch-drug-test the_n_620908.html
I also don’t think anyone who is on unemployment really actually buys drugs with their money. I think they are struggling to eat, raise families, pay bills and rent, and pay for health care! How insulting. Waste money on drug testing those who don’t do drugs in the first place-brilliant.

All anyone has to do is to go to each site and set up an account and post their release.

Make sure to include “key” words in the body of the release (i.e., Senator Reid, Obama, unemployment benefits, Pelosi, hardships, crime, etc.) – this will ensure more visibility and to be picked up by the media.

You can also go online to see samples of press releases.

This site has some very intelligent and articulate people – so I know that creating a solid press release will not be a problem.

Share this information on every UI board and all the Facebook contacts – and tell all to post a release each week until a tier 5 is created.

I received a message about this board from a reporter, who in turn forwarded it to me – so your media outreach is working.

Get luck to all of you!

I FEEL EVERYONES PAIN. I WAS LAID OFF A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO TRYING TO SUPPORT THREE CHILDREN AND MYSELF THANKS TO A DEAD BEAT DAD NOT PAYING SUPPORT. BUT I AM FINALLY IN A POSITION TO BUY MY FIRST HOUSE AND WITH THE CLOSING DATE DEADLINE FASTLY APPROACHING TO RECEIVE THE TAX CREDIT I MAY HAVE TO BACK OUT OF THE CONTRACT. WHY DID THEY ATTATCH THAT TO THE UNEMPLOYEMENT EXTENTION IS BEYOND ME. BUT I AM PRAYING FOR ALL OF YOU AND YOUR FAMILIES THAT THIS PASSES SOON. I WOULD NOT WISH THIS ON MY WORST ENEMY.

Join the club :( If I don’t have money this week, I’m also out. I haven’t used any extensions yet.. just ended the original 26 weeks of UI, but with two degrees, no one will hire me… “overqualified” I’m told. Then exploit me! I need to take care of my son.. don’t even know what to do if it doesn’t pass. I, along w/ so many of you, am feeling so lost right now. I don’t like this helpless feeling at all. Too bad we’re not in the same area… I know I could use the support (as well as a roomate under the nearest bridge)

bhrodeoaz 06/19/2010 10:42am

Another thing i noticed was a CNBC report about last months jobs report boasted 438,000 jobs created. Big DEAL what they didnt say was 411,000 of those jobs were Temporary Census workers who are now back on the unemployment line. Bunch of biased bull shit if you ask me

I’m starting to hate this country, i was always very patriotic but boy has that changed. This country is no longer about the people, its about the politicians and how fat their pockets can get.

jillyb2 06/16/2010 4:57pm

I exhausted my Tier 2 benefits a week ago. I am now going on my second week of no unemployment benefits. My husband and I are trying to figure out how we will survive if the Senate doesn’t come to an agreement soon. It’s ridiculous that a lot of this comes down to pure politics and us US Citizens are forced to suffer for it. This bill should have been passed by June 2nd at the latest and here we are, June 16th and it has still not been resolved. My husband and I love this country. He is a combat veteran from 2 different wars so we are a very patriotic family but for the first time in my life, I feel that this country is letting us down.

brokechristine 06/18/2010 5:39am

I am in the same boat laid of Nov 2009. I didn’t receive 99 weeks either- yep were competing with the first wave of layoffs from 2008- plus I live in a college town. Wonder if these representatives read the news about how employers don’t want to hire the unemployed. God help us.

Actually there should be no reason it would have to back to the Senate again after the House votes on it again!! Thankfully lol

brokechristine 07/20/2010 1:32pm

Well we’re half way there…I pray that everyone here gets the job they need so “WE THE PEOPLE” no longer have to beg for scraps from the masters table. Please do not forget those reps on both sides that made this an unbearable journey for us all. My heart breaks for the 99’ers. Don’t forget those left behind in this mess, if you can help a neighbor- do so. I too will miss the support we’ve given each other during this time. Save the site to your favorites and check in won’t you…getting an unemployment check isn’t getting a job. prayers for jobs- to you all!

bluboy1313 06/18/2010 5:45am

Yes, if this isn’t the poster child of this broken government wtf! They put so many issues together and make it impossible to have a straight up bill vote just for Unemployment and then the republicans have a new battle cry “oh we must not add to the budget!!!” WTF really is this the time for your BS now? We are watching and can see when the American people are down who really stands by them!
My God this is the third week… when it should have been handle before the break… IF the republicans belief in their cause they should return their pay to the Treasury then they too like many Americans can go without pay but their argument rings hollow when it is just a cheap tactic used when it doesn’t effect the elite rich…
A breaking new story is that many banks are now failing to repay their TARP loans!
Hey throw those bums out on the street just like they would do to us when we miss our house payments!!!
I would love to see some homeless bankers!!!

loganstorm 06/19/2010 3:28am

Well its official. I’ve lost my home. If I don’t have the rent paid by July 1, my children and I are homeless. I’ve worked all my life, I am not a deadbeat, I ran out my first 26 weeks of unemployment the day the extension ended. While on UI, I was looking for work aggressively. After awhile, I couldn’t even afford the ink for my printer to print resumes, but at least I had the rent paid so my children had a home. I have two degrees, one in child psychology and one in accounting/business management…and was looking even for waitress work and was turned down for being overqualified. When I told them to exploit me, they just laughed. If this bill doesn’t pass, get signed & go into effect in the next few days, I’m homeless. I’ve never been a whiner or a quitter, but I just don’t know what do do anymore. If it wasn’t for my kids, I might just give up for good.

whatsgoingon 06/24/2010 6:03am

All politicians are liars. It doesn’t matter if they are dems or GOP they lie. They say one thing and do another. They don’t care about us little people. It doesn’t matter if your rep or dem you’ll get screw one way or another from these guys. I wonder what would happen if everyone boycotted voting. They might just put anyone in office but would it matter? They lie to get into office and do opposite of their promises. If we all boycott voting maybe they would realize no one in our country supports any of them and their lies and they better do something to get voters again. It’s just a though and I know people will still vote regardless but I know my whole family will refuse to vote anymore so that’s a chunk of votes these liars will not get anymore. If anyone agrees with me spread the thought around and boycott voting. Let’s make a stand.

So they did not pass the bill again!! Un friggin believable. I just completed my tier 2 and I am eligible for tier 3 when these politicians get their head out of their a**. But it’s ok for our president to send 400 million to Palestine for aid and relief. Yes 400 million, I did not believe it at first but went on-line to verify. But thousands of Americans can’t pay their mortgage, utility bills and whatever else. The trickle down effect of this is going to be disasterous for this country.

I am no longer a taxpayer. I am a white single unemployed adult over 40 with no children, and welfare is not an option . Employers preference target groups are minorities first, then the following WOTC,

Long-term TANF Recipient.
Other TANF Recipient.
Qualified Food Stamp Recipient. An 18-39 year old.
Designated Community Resident. An 18-39 year old ;
Summer Youth Employee. A 16-17 year old
Qualified Veteran.
Vocational Rehabilitation Referral.
Qualified Ex-Felon.
SSI Recipient.
Hurricane Katrina Employee.
Unemployed Veteran. A veteran hired after 2008 and before 2011
Disconnected Youth. age 16 but not age 25 on the hiring date,
Most target groups’ maximum credit is $2,400, but some are eligible to receive more:
$2,400 for each new adult hire;
$1,200 for each new summer youth hire,
$4,800 for each new disabled veteran hire, and
$9,000 for each new long-term family assistance recipient hired over a two-year period.

I fit none of this criteria

I agree there are cheaters in every system. I, unfortunately, am one of the unemployed. I have been searching for work and have been unsuccessful. However, I do have problems with some of the proposed H.R. 4213 and I have mixed feelings regarding the passage of this bill as it is written. I am a Conservative on most issues and I do not like the entire bill as is. However, I hope that the extension will go through, because thousands of families are in great need.
