Jess01869, where did you read this? I cannot find anything regarding this possibility. I read that Congress passed HR 5618 and now it will go to the Senate after their long “deserved” vacation (yea right). They will not return until the 12th.

Thats what I was thinking. TO be realistic, most people who live this way also have section 8 housing = at least $300, food stamps = at least $200, in some cases child care = at least $200, totalling = $700 + the $300 check = $1000 in government assistance. I seriously doubt you received that much in unemployment. Furhtermore, that only required one department to manage your finances. The other method requires the man power of at least 4 different department. Thats just bad business.

I have a dumb question. HR 4213 shows senate passed June 30th. HR 5816 shows passed by house. UI was on hr4213 and was then stand alone bill hr5816. They said reason to seperate was because they didn’t like everything with UI and would pass UI if stand alone. So now the hr 4213 passed anyways. I think they are lieing again. What a shocker. I think they wanted to pass everything else but not the UI. This doesn’t look good. Please tell me I am understanding this wrong.

ALL unemployed 26 weeks or 99 weeks what ever governemnt has given those names. It should not matter better start standing together on a bill that will extend unemployment for ALL who exhausted. All need to fight for new tiers or you and your family will be out in the cold with no money to look for Job. So focus on new Tiers for all this will report true numbers not fake. Stop reporting each month .2% drop on unemployment the unemployed who has been told to not file has been going on for months now but the need to call back and stay on the phone until they get a conformation number that they have job searched and been recorded or else the fake numbers will reseed.

From:
http://www.opencongress.org/articles/view/1960-Unemployment-Extension-Passes-House-But-the-Bill-is-Now-Stuck-in-Limbo

The Iowa Independent reported earlier in the day that another Senate vote was possible tonight under an emergency session called by Senate Majority Leader Sen. Harry Reid [D, NV], but that does not appear to be panning out. It looks like the Senate will, in fact, stay adjourned until July 12.

this was the most misinformed, insulting article I’ve read in regards to people on unemployment. I think someone needs to write them and set them straight!

A further update in Ohio. I’m going into tier 2 and Saturday on the website it showed all the weeks paid. Sunday I filed as usual. Today (Monday) I received the emails that showed the stubs from the payments. That means it will be in my account tomorrow morning around 9:30 am, including the week I just filed for on Sunday.

minimoe 08/03/2010 8:34am

im in FLorida and STILL waiting to even claim.. They are really starting to upset me……….

NickD 08/03/2010 8:37am

Just wondering if anybody that got payments this week just happened to get an EXTRA $44 PAYMENT? I live in PA and got my back weeks less than 4 days after the bill was signed, but I got last weeks today(I have to file every week) and when I looked, there was 2 payments. One was my normal check and a second one for $44. Can’t get a hold of the UC Service center because it’s so busy, just trying to figure out what it is and if it’ll be a weekly thing.

brokechristine 08/03/2010 3:29pm

To Lukester, your response to ngc corp was perfect!!! After reading I laughed for ten minutes. Good for you

Abaratarrr 08/04/2010 11:18am

Lukester/colorado peeps,
I just got off the phone with colorado workforce.

I was told not to expect anything this week and that they are still figuring out the eligibility and the programing for EB 2 told it could be 2-3 weeks. next week at the soonest.

The chick also told me that we did not qualify for EB 2 until July 10 they seem to be of the impression that we need a 8% TUR for three months strait not an average TUR of 8% for 3 months. She said we would only be paid retroactively back to the week of July 10.

She said they are implementing the tiers in order of 1, 2, 3, state extended benefits then state extended benefits 2. So we are last and they hope to start programming for us this week. Makes since doesn’t it, let the people who have suffered the longest continue to suffer longer then anyone else.

Abaratarrr 08/04/2010 1:58pm

The Americans Want to Work Act (S.3706)

Tier 5 – Unemployment Insurance

  • What it Does: Provides 20 weeks of additional unemployment insurance for states with 7.5% or higher unemployment. This tier will benefit the people who have exhausted all of their benefits.
  • Retroactive Eligibility: Would apply retroactively to everyone who has exhausted all of their previous tiers in recent months. However, benefits would not be paid retroactively. (Example – If you exhausted your benefits 3 months ago, you would be eligible to begin your Tier 5 at the date of enactment. You would not, however, be paid out for the 3 months in which you did not receive benefits. If you are going to exhaust your benefits in 2 weeks, you will move right onto Tier 5 and receive your 20 weeks).
  • Requirements: People who are unemployed still need to meet current UI law requirements such as job searches.

I cannot wait until Nov 2 to cast my vote against a long time Republican Congressman, who in previous years I voted for, because he voted nay to the unemployment extensions. However the election comes out at least I know that now it was my time to vote nay. This is what we all have to do.
Hope you are all doing well.

prior to Oboma, unemployment benefit extensions have been in place almost every time the national rate exceeded 6.5%.

I think a lot of us hard working Americans are in the same vote at this particular point in time! I have worked well over 25+ years in my career and never ask for anything from our government! My savings were used helping my two children while they were in dire straights, which families are suppose to do in time of need. I thought I still had time to build-up my savings again, no because I lost my job 6 months later. I have always been conservative, but always helped out with charities and my family members when needed. I hope “Genesee” that you are spared the indignity & helplessness of ever feeling what many of us “Little Guys” feel! You are an extremely ignorant person! Try ready the bible! My last point to all you kind people in this similar predicament, there is a site called: www.change.org that is circulating a Petition for the passage of HR 4213. If you have not already, please sign up. God Bless All.

we get trolls like this often, more often then not it is someone who personally feels the opposite of what they are posting, they simply post outlandish comments to get reactions and to try to make people feel that the (as the see it ) other side really feels that way. Its good to be overly cautious of screen names that are only a few hour or a few days old it is more then likely a regular just trolling.

best option is to ignore the trolls, if you do not take their bait and feed them they go away.

historically when they have passed the 30 days extenders they make it retroactive plus 30 days from the date the bill is passed. so you should be in good shape regardless of which bill passes.

Sadly neither of the bills provide any more benefits for the first victims of the bush recession, the millions of people whom have already gone through all of the tiers and have been without help for several months now.

“I find it completely and totally unacceptable and irresponsible of the Senate to not treat the unemployment crisis with the utmost dire attention and pass H4213 as a #1 priority, giving the millions of people like me who are suffering a chance to survive. It simply is inconceivable that there was a bail-out, costing billions of dollars, to help save corporate giants like AIG who were in their failing situation through their own fault, and yet there seems to be no help for the tax-paying citizen who has been forced into their situation, despite doing the right thing.

I urge you with every hopeful fiber of my being to understand just how dire our situation really is and make passing an extension for Unemployment Benefits your #1 priority. Help those who depend on you, pay your salary, and determine if you get voted for again.

But above all, help your fellow Americans.

Sincerely yours,
C [Last Name]"

This is the letter that I just sent to every Rep I could think of. I encourage all of you to write and KEEP writing to everyone you can get a contact for. Pass on the word and get everyone you can to do the same.

“Hello,

My name is C [Last Name], and I am one of the millions of unemployed legal citizens of the United States. Since losing my job on February 26, 2009 through no fault of my own, I have been depending on Unemployment to help make ends meet. Before I lost my job, I made a decent amount of money. I was going to school to finish my degree. I was a responsible citizen. And I have held a full-time job now for the past 11 years, since I was 15yrs old.

But when the deadline came to move onto the next tier (for me, Tier IV), I still had approximately $100 left in Tier III and thus was unable to move forward. I have now been without any income whatsoever since then and rent is due on the 1st of July."

Genesee: Receiving unemployment “insurance” is paid for by every working American. It is NOT a welfare benefit. I have worked for more than 30 years, got laid off a year ago, and let me tell you something, the government is not “maintaining” my lifestyle; and the weekly unemployment check (1/3 of what my working salary was) is NOT maintaining my previous lifestyle. I am a 60 year old woman who has been searching endlessly for a job. Not earning an income will also affect my social security benefit when I retire. Unless you have unemployment experience my friend, you really should keep your uninformed opinions to yourself….maybe try some understanding, compassion. That’s what is missing “in the real world”….
