I called Ohio unemployment today at around noon. I was told they just walked out of a meeting (explains the 94 minute wait time..lol) about the new bill. She told me that they are working on the system to change what they need to so that it can be processed. She said that this Sunday I may be able to file my week online, but if it’s not showing yet, to call Monday. I asked about the retro payments and she said that it was brought up on how to deal with it and said that they are working on it as well. She said they currently didn’t have a date on when they would be sent out, but that the overall consensus is that they should go out next week.

Good luck all and we need to get extensions dealt with for the 99er’s still, so keep it up.

yeah……the last monies Ive been receiving was from Second Tier Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) I’m looking at the letter they sent me dated 4/26/10 and i received my last check on 6/20/2010

So i am eligible or should be for the next 2 tiers….right?

I dont know why i got a letter about EB….once the new bill hits they should get the act together.

jereme28 07/23/2010 8:21am

I have read this bill over and over again, and it does not mention EB whatsoever, it also does not mention anything about 99 weeks. This bill only addresses EUC being the tiers, it prevents reductions in benefit amounts, and it changes the eligibility dates. Am I missing something here?

sniperxess 07/23/2010 7:31am

I re-filed my claim with the Un-Employment Office in NC 3 days ago…and i received the letter date the 21nd ….that i was not “MONETARILY ELIGIBLE” to received extended benefits but that was before the bill was signed. SO THAT BETTER CHANGE! by next week or this bill didnt help me out at all.

I knew i should have waited to refile my claim but i got antsy….LOL

i’ll re do it again next week or wait for some kind of letter from there.

Wow. I am in Illinois and just got off the phone with the Unemployment office. I was told by a fairly ignorant and not so nice woman that they did not have official word about the extension and no decisions had been made yet. I am certifying next week for my final week out of the initial 26 weeks. I was told to certify for that week and that I would get paid for that. After that, I am suppose to wait for a letter notifying me of what happens with the extension. There is no estimated time frame for an answer or response regarding the extension in Illinois according to this woman. I am hoping that somebody else out there got a more helpful answer in Illinois and can elaborate.

I’m one of those who exhausted all of them benefits and had to beg and borrow from friends and family to pay my bills. I found a job a few weeks ago but was let go after 6days. I was told I wasn’t the guy he thought I was. What a bunch of B.S.! I’m now so far in debt I’m thinking about ending it all. It’s sad that I get these thoughts but
unless something happens soon maybe a tier 5 benefits package. I just
may end up homeless! I cannot borrow anymore, without knowing I can pay it back. My phone and internet will be shut off soon and my landlord will be evicting me. That sure won’t help finding a job!

When federal funding is withdrawn, states use a conservative formula for determining high unemployment rates. Now with the federal funding restored, your state may go back to the more liberal formula so you will may be eligible for state extended benefits. I’m not sure about Connecticut’s details.

OBAMA SIGNED 8 MINUTES AGO

sniperxess 07/22/2010 12:47pm

thanks….cause my girlfriend lives here in NC with me but collects from VA…..doesnt know if she can collect from NC or not…so she was worried about the extension helping her out or not.

Virginia’s has a 7.1% unemployment rate. That may not be as high some states but we will still be eligible. I talked to the VEC office yesterday and they said that after the bill passes and is signed they will send extension applications to us in Va. They couldn’t tell me how long it would take, so I’m still wondering how long we will have to wait.

sniperxess 07/22/2010 12:21pm

what happens to the people not in a high unemployment state? such as VA? do they still qualify for this new extension or is it only in the high state over a certain %

ridinghero1990 07/22/2010 11:28am

What state are you from? In some high unemployment states, there is an extra 20 weeks after Tier 4, known as State Extended Benefits. We have it here in PA. After I get the last six weeks of Tier 4, I’ll move onto this now since the extension gives back the full federal funding for state extended benefits. Hopefully I find work before then.

enrico17 07/22/2010 10:37am

Finally, way to long coming. I wish each one of you and all the unemployed the best of luck and hope that you will all soon be back in the working force with the salaries you had before. I am in a different positiion but hurt for all of you, especially if you have families. You will be back on top that you can be sure and remember who helped you when you needed it.

Donny, this website was amazing, not only for the up to date and accurate information you provided, but it gave people a place to talk and support each other and know that they were not alone. Even though you may read about numbers of people, when you hear their stories it makes it real.

God Bless you all

I just contacted the UI center and I have exhausted my benefits in tier 4 and will not be part of this extension unless there is a tier 5. I was told the max number of weeks anyone is eligible to collect is 99 weeks.

Certain States to take longer than others to send out (retroactive)payments…

I am blaming both sides…maybe all those up on Capital Hill should have their pay cut down to min. wage and try to live on that and provide insurance for their families…I bet if they had to do that for 1 month…they all would change their tunes…I cannot believe we actually elect these yahoos….I don’t care what side of the fence their on be it Rep or Dem…I don’t trust any of them…I voted for Obama hoping to see some difference from the last 8 years…and I am sorely disappointed..

Abaratarrr 07/22/2010 9:45am
in reply to DTyner Jul 22, 2010 9:36am

there will never be a tier 5 as long as the democrats believe that if they do nothing that the republicans will take the blame.

This is not a democrat vs republican thing, if the democrats were on your side they would have proposed a tier 5

The dems and republicans are on the same side we are on the other.

A 5th tier is desperately needed and it has to come from the democrats who are ignoring us because they think we will blame the republicans for their inaction

adrabon 07/22/2010 9:43am

South Carolina will start sending out checks the Monday after the President sings the bill.
