I find it scary as it can be that a member of the house would introduce a bill such as this. As a police officer I find that criminals could care less about laws. Hence the word Criminals… To attack the very fiber of the constitution should be grounds for a complete dismissal from the judiciary review. I believe that the Judicial branch of the government just addressed this issue. The 2nd amendment is very clear. Don’t mess with it or there will be mutiny.

  • pegwinn 02/10/2009 6:52pm

Ok, I am not going to get all hysterical here…… But, did anyone notice that Congress has proposed licensing one of the fundamental rights codified in the first ten amendments? How long before you need a license to exercise free speech, or attend a certain church?

  • benflying 02/11/2009 2:52am

Congress has no business even getting involved in this. Each state should have its own laws the handle these issues and treated as that state sees fit. There is no way Washington has a clue on the needs and wants on this issue that residents of a particular state may have and need. Would seem to me, this another attempt by FEDS to dictate what a state should do as they see it rather than the folks that live in that state. FEDS have no right or business in this issue.

Laws like this are absolutely ridiculous. They only affect LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS. People who obtain guns illegally, will ALWAYS get them that way. More government BS.

  • Anonymous 02/11/2009 7:58am

It’s a common fact that the police don’t or can’t protect us, we have a legal right to self-protection. HR 45 is just the first step that allows the “government” to re-possess all firearms in the US. Can you say Australia?

It’s actually embarassing that Ron Paul, from Texas, of all places, would introduce such a piece of you-know-what? Who the heck voted for this idiot?

    gonejon 02/11/2009 10:10am

    Are you daft?

I hope you are just honestly mistaken but to state that Ron Paul introduced this pile of filth is woefully inaccurate.

Rep. Bobby Rush [D, IL-1] is the one to blame for this one.

If you had the slightest clue, you’d know beyond a shadow of a doubt that Ron Paul would never, ever get near such legislation.

I am outraged. The last thing i want to see is another civil war. but if legislation like this continues to be proposed and possably signed into law this time i see no other alternative. I just ask of every true american be strong dont give in to oppression and pray for our elected officials. secondly, when it is time to vote be pro-ative, encourage people to use there vote and there voice.

Freedom, Freedom, Freedom. What a joke that word is becoming in this country. It is so ironic to think about during the presidential pre inauguration ceremony, the performing artists singing about America land of the free. Where’s free. I don’t see it anymore in this country. It’s pathetic, I’m sick of it. It’s time for a March on washington. This HR 45 is big. It must be stopped. We have a right to bear arms and we must stop the government from dismantling our constitution.

I just read H.R. 45 written by MR. Rush from Illinois, they have basically the same system in Illinois but yet they have some of highest crime rate in the city of Chicago they just don’t get it. IT DOSE NOT WORK prosecute the criminals first.
We already have records of sales when a gun is purchased new. The bill outlaws concealed carry laws already on the books, protection of your home by having a loaded weapon in your home to protect your family. It has redundant provisions and laws that are already on the books that do not get enforced . It has lots of pork in it and wasteful spending. This is not change for the good.
On Saturday February 7, 2009 the Sun Journal wrote a story in the state and region section titled “Two men arrested on home invasion” since then 3 out of 4 perpetrators have been arrested and thank the good lord the folks who were robed were not killed the man was hit with a weapon. Now for the perpetrators, Mr. Jones 27 escapee from prison 12X felon with more then one gun charge “what about that mandatory 10 year sentence for possession of a firearm by a felon? ” (Federal Law) The 3 strike law?. Mr. Andrews 28 7X felon with a conviction of felony assault of a female same thing. Mr. Stocks and Mr. Columbus were still at large during the story. This story happens all over the country with the same effect the criminal goes free and the honest law abiding citizen pays the price.
Our country needs to stop protecting the criminals and those who don’t feel they have to follow the laws of the state or federal government. We need to put them to work to help keep our great state and country clean. The people of our nation DO NOT want more GUN LAWS; we want the criminals to know they will be held accountable for the crimes they commit. Please vote “NO” to H.R. 45 and help move this country in the right direction. Don’t make more gun laws; ENFORCE the laws that we already have. Lets have positive Change.

this bill a long with others continue to violate the constitution and principles of the USA.

besides under title 10 chapter 13 of the US CODE which reads:

    (a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
    (b) The classes of the militia are—
    (1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
    (2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.

I am part of the US UnOrganized Militia as is every American in this country who has ever taken an oath of aligence to the “Flag adn the constitution for which it stands”

an attempt to disarm the militia should considered treason.

I find it amazing that everyone gets in such a frenzy over something that is done on a regular basis, Congress has alot of people who do alot of posturing for the votes it gets, This bill will die a slow death as usual simply because it would be impossible to enforce and everyone knows it… Has anyone every noticed that it always comes up when the Republican Party is in a bad position…It has been thier smoke screen for years used to stir up the masses against the Dems…

  • parighttobeararms 02/12/2009 6:38am

FACE IT ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS TO TAKE AWAY THE GOOD GUN OWNERS GUNS AWAY AND THAT IS IS

  • Anonymous 02/12/2009 11:22am

I neither own a gun or intend to buy one unless this legislative assault on our liberty should succeed. The first ammendment is for all intents and purposes has been neutered by “speech rules” at universities and places of employement as well civil liabilites for “hate speech”. The next one will be our fundemental right to bear arms, which the founders provided specifically for the purpose of armed rebellion should it become necessary for WE, the people to rise up against a tyrannical government. The Federal Government was meant ONLY to have powers that had been EXPRESSLY granted to it by the States. Stop this slide toward bondage!!! stop this bill.

  • EWALTER58 02/12/2009 11:32am

BILL H.R.45 THE CHANGE. WE DON’T NEED
H.R. 45 the new gun control bill written by Senator Bobby Rush from Illinois, they have basically the same system now in Illinois but yet they have some of highest crime rate in the city of Chicago they just don’t get it. IT DOSE NOT WORK. The bill outlaws concealed carry, laws already on the books, protection of your home by having a loaded weapon in your home to protect your family. It has redundant provisions and laws that are already on the books that do not get enforced Our country needs to stop protecting the criminals and those who don’t feel they have to follow the laws of the state or federal government. The people of our nation do not want more gun laws; they want the criminals to know they will be held accountable for the crimes they commit. Is this the change our new President speaks of?

  • tinman1 02/12/2009 1:52pm

Guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Well, sort of, I’m a Desert Storm Vet and a CHL holder. I have yet to find that the law abiding citizen is the one running out to the local pak’n’sak just to steal a pack of cigs and a beer. Criminals don’t care about gun control laws or licensing. THEY’RE CRIMINALS! Strengthen the laws that hold criminals accountable, not the ones for law abiding citizens! If a guy holds up a pac’n’sak for cigs and beer, don’t slap him on the wrist and let him loose after 90 days for good behavior, send him up the river for 5 to 10 without parrole. Murder anyone? capital punnishment applies, period.
Making all gun owners have to be licensed is just rediculous. The bureaucracy already in place does nothing but hamper the reasonable safety policies also already in place. Stricter enforcement of existing law, without loopholes and third and fourth and fifth chances, is a much better approach.

  • simpsongc 02/12/2009 6:05pm

One only has to look to Australia and our neighbor to the north to see what happens when the government restricts or takes away honest, law abiding citizens ability to protect themselves. Crime will soar when the criminals move to take advantage. Enough is enough! Congress would do well to remember and live by the three R’s
    Respect for self.
    Respect for others.
Responsibilty for all of your actions.

  • Anonymous 02/12/2009 7:12pm

I believe this is a crock of horse-s**t. It is time that we as AMERICANS stand as ONE and rebell against this type of action. If you take the right to defend yourself or your family from harm then you might as well take away from your family. If a criminal were to break-in to any of these BIG-WIGS house that run our country dont you think they would ne the first to act in SELF-DEFENSE. You really cant even call it self-defense if this bill goes through. You might as well consider yourself in front of a judge pleading quilty to first-degree murder. I will not stand for that and neither will my family. This is pathetic. Cant someone who has any sense on CAPITAL HILL figure out that this is a bad idea. Do we have to slap them in the face and say “HEY WTF ARE YOU THINKING”. It is time we show our AMERCIAN PRIDE and stand against this type of unlawfull action towards our rights.

  • nra_lives 02/13/2009 3:08am

Rememember your history, what was the first thing hitler did ? disarm the german people. It is all about power and control.
It is time to kick the United Nation out of our country and they can take the big revolver with a knot tied in the barrel, which if you don’t know sits in front of the UN building on US soil, it make me sick.

  • ibnanouk 02/13/2009 5:09am

This bill is an attempt to get around the recent USSC (US Supreme Court) case of “DC vs Heller” (google this) that reaffirmed the 2nd Amendment was “an individual right … for self-defense…”. By taxing both the ownership of guns and ammo, this bill does not overstep the “DC vs Heller” decision. In other words, the fight will go to the phrase “shall not be infringed,” as opposed to trying to limit the right to a “well-organized militia” which “DC vs. Heller” settled for now at least until the Court makeup changes to the left.

  • Anonymous 02/13/2009 12:14pm

It’s too bad those proposing additional infringement upon the Second Amendment cannot be prosecuted for violating their oath of office: “…To protect and defend the Constitution of The United States”

The politicians get off way to easy.

A hundred years ago, their constituents would tar and feather them when they returned to their home districts for these kinds of transgressions. That’s why the politicians feel free to wipe their backside with the Bill of Rights! Do NOT allow this to pass!

  • Anonymous 02/13/2009 2:02pm

I belive every freedom loving American regardless wether they chose to
own a firearm or not MUST stand in support of the second amendment!!!! If we as American citzens allow our elected officals to run amuck and trample on our most basic of civil rights we will surely be lead down the long painfull road to socialism.

  • darren3h 02/13/2009 3:13pm

Can anyone explain how this bill, if voted into law, could’ve saved Blair Holt?

Bobby Rush, WAKE UP! You’re attacking the wrong side.

  • Comm_reply
    RadarLEO 03/10/2009 5:52pm

OR any legislation to restrict law abiding citizens from gun ownership would have? AMEN….BUILD MORE PRISONS! Attack the criminals, they already have more rights than everyone else.

  • hurricane 02/13/2009 3:51pm

What happens when one of these liberals get their homes broken into and are standing in front of a criminal what will they use to protect their family from harm? AN ANTI GUN BILL. I thnk not. It does not even make a good bullet proof vest!!!!

    God Bless All

    P. S. Some of the greatest men in our history were called traitors in the begining of our countries days.

  • tomyka1951 02/13/2009 4:36pm

Once more one of our elected officals is trying to use the law to undo a crime that was commited by some one who even if this rediculas law were to be past would not obey it, as they broke laws already in existance.
this seeks do nothing more than bear down on those who legally own and conduct themselfs in an aproperat manor. we dont need more laws that restrict us and drain us finacally, we need to have the laws on the books already better inforced.

  • Anonymous 02/13/2009 6:04pm

“God forbid we should ever be twenty years without such a rebellion.
The people cannot be all, and always, well informed. The part which is
wrong will be discontented, in proportion to the importance of the facts
they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions,
it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty. …
And what country can preserve its liberties, if it’s rulers are not
warned from time to time, that this people preserve the spirit of
resistance? Let them take arms. The remedy is to set them right as
to the facts, pardon and pacify them. What signify a few lives lost
in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from
time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants.
It is its natural manure.” TJ

Bobby Rush pushing a forth bill regarding firearms!?! If I’m not mistaken, a convicted felon cannot posess any fireamrs… So why is a convicted felon pushing legislation to set licensing guidelines for firearm ownership? For that matter, a convicted felon cannot even vote, yet we have one serving as a congressman, which votes while in session.
When will the giant B.S. flag be raised? C’mon, the guy went AWOL from the army, co-founded a chapter of the “black panthers” and served six months on a illegal weapons charge… This is the guy to regulate “interstate weapons trafficking” Please tell me someone else sees the irony in this….

  • lameeagle1940 02/13/2009 11:11pm

When the people no longer has the right to keep and bare arms . They will no longer be a free people. This Bill is not about crime or public safety. Its about disarming America. Then we will be slaves. The goverment has talked about free people ever since President Lincoln. Now They are trying to start it all over again.
